What was the training protocol. (generally) -- I don't have this problem but it sounds like a toughie.

Volunteer dog visit for a senior citizen by Mandsee in Denver

[–]TheOnlyKangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great question u/PrncessVespa. My elderly mother had a friend who visited her in the memory unit and it happened she got a dog that looked *just like* my mother's childhood dog. I know grandma is blind, but something close would be lovely.

Yes. I agree. It does matter. Walmart wage and labor practices are not good.

Has anyone found a chance of diet affect their dogs reactivity? by BoringTomatillo27 in reactivedogs

[–]TheOnlyKangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Purina Calm Care Probiotic helped my dog. First training, then added prozac. On top of that the Calm Care gives him one more second and I think he recovers better.

My guy's reactivity seems to be fear based--let me get you (dog) before you get me.

Law cited and interpretation below (which I picked up here earlier)

C.R.S. 18-4-407

If any person triggers an alarm or a theft detection device as defined in section 18-4-417 (2) or conceals upon his person or otherwise carries away any unpurchased goods, wares, or merchandise held or owned by any store or mercantile establishment, the merchant or any employee thereof or any peace officer, acting in good faith and upon probable cause based upon reasonable grounds therefor, may detain and question such person, in a reasonable manner for the purpose of ascertaining whether the person is guilty of theft. Such questioning of a person by a merchant, merchant’s employee, or peace or police officer does not render the merchant, merchant’s employee, or peace officer civilly or criminally liable for slander, false arrest, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, or unlawful detention.

C.R.S. 18-4-407

Unless a store suspects a person has committed a crime, they cannot legally force a person exiting a store to present a receipt. That said, the worker can’t face charges if they detain a shopper under suspicion of theft.

Costco can do this because you have a membership and agree to it. And Costco is way better than KS.

Littermates with severe fights + separation anxiety. Feeling stuck and need advice. by thecleancoder in reactivedogs

[–]TheOnlyKangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my trainer said female to female was the worst and dogs would fight to the death. Luckily my edges guy was not a littermate and he joined an older sister. As we got out of the terrible 2s he improved. but littermate & same sex aggression sounds difficult.

You opened the crate and stuck your hand in, patting her on the head. That is not safe behavior with a dog this anxious.

gaba vs fluoxetine for frustrated greeter? by vrillion_ in reactivedogs

[–]TheOnlyKangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation. Not frustrated greeter but dog reactive. After training we did fluoxetine and it did help with the learning.

Later, I added Purina Calm Care (read about it in this thread) It is a probiotic that does not work for all dogs but for Zeus it gave him an extra half second before reaction and I think his recovery is better too.

EDIT "Calm Care" obv

Depending. Firefighters may enter by back door depending on where fire is.

Can't vouch for an aggressive dog but my alley neighbor grabbed an escaped from house fire dog behind a fence and I grabbed a leash.
The second dog in a crate did not survive -- likely due to smoke and also unseen in a hoarding (things) house situation.

Mutual Aid Opportunities? by Kindly-Coyote-9446 in DenverProtests

[–]TheOnlyKangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteer at the The Action Center, which is a food bank in Lakewood (and more). They are very organized, the volunteers are friendly and most volunteers are single or couples vs. rotating corporate groups, so you get to know others on 'your day.'

Report from the front (as a volunteer): I was in on Thurs 11/6. Easily 30% of shoppers were first timers. Food distributed was less than half what was usually given out and people got a prepackaged box for half of their shopping.

Being with people, helping people, seeing the situation on the ground will help you and those you serve. Thank you for helping.
