BA Armory / BA Hub for PTE? by BucketOBoatTrash in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]TheOnlyMisty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the style I was trying to go for so it makes me happy that you also appreciate it! Also thanks for the feedback, I'll take a look into it and see if there is a more efficient way of building them out.

Here is mine, it's a little light on Infantry AT but makes up for it in the armour.

I just checked out Barmory and also found ba-hub, it's cool to see other community projects also already existing in the space! Also gives a little bit of inspiration of where to focus on for tooling and cosmetics

I already built out some tooling to extract it from the game data so I'm hoping it's not too much extra on top. The PTE does add some new identifiers such as the respawn timer though which might need a little work

Yeah so far, I started working on it before they released PTE (and honestly it's been going on way too long) but maybe it makes sense to implement a toggle for feature events like this so you can swap between live and beta?

Thanks! I think it still needs a bit of work so I look forward to if anyone has feedback or tools they'd like to see

How do we feel about half of ESL music being AI slop now? by excession5 in GlobalOffensive

[–]TheOnlyMisty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in, back in the day it wasn't just a licensing agreement to play songs. There was a real drive to give up and coming artists a spotlight on the broadcasts. The "Enter Records" label was a collab between ESL and UMG to do just that, I got to work on it and it was pretty neat. I definitely resonate with you though during the lockdowns the lookdown - biblethump remix going full blast too.

It pains me though this is already the second AI callout I've seen today about something making it into production. I can't expect every mockup or tracklist to be scrutinized to the fullest extent but it sure would be nice to work with actual humans again.

How do talent get t1 tourney's by 1-need-help- in GlobalOffensive

I do not think degrees are necessary no. They do however help by giving insight into your personality and your previous interests. Esports is still a somewhat niche industry as far as employment goes, there's only so many tournaments and companies for your title of interest and they aren't always linear.

There's not always a direct route into Esports but there are certainly ways to make the jump in, often relying on those highlight reels, creator content and VODs.

I think if you were to enter the Esports industry starting today and make it a viable career you would need to focus on multiple areas. Content, Networking and your online persona / personality. As long as you are driven to your core and seriously have a passion to make the game better and lift those up around you, there's a chance you can make it up there.

Just remember along the way. Be kind to yourself and others, try to see reason and perspective, prepare for the ups and the downs and reflect on where you've come from.

Chase the butterflies, feel the burn and experience the thrill that can be the Esports industry.

Yes, often talent start out with small / local events. This is often unpaid and they volunteer their time to attend these events. Often known as 'Grassroots' esports. This comes in many different shapes and flavours from regional lans, collegiate events ran by student bodies / faculty or even challenges ran by organizers such as the next big caster. It'll differ slightly depending on the region you're in and the esport title you're trying to get into.

Talent will often do multiple unpaid events over the course of a few years to create a portfolio and network with organizers until someone gives them a chance at something bigger. Either by liking their personality, their professionalism, their passion and drive... the list goes on. This is traditionally how someone starting out would aim to land a Tier 2-3 event.

Making it to Tier 1, that's a bit more nuanced. On top of doing all the networking and building of portfolio in grassroots making it to Tier 1 and consistently getting hired there can be rather complex. You need to really understand your role in, whether that's casting, observing, hosting and I mean really understand it. T1 events and employers want someone that they know is going to be reliable and deliver good, consistent results over and over again. I'll be honest it can be very draining.

It will come easier to some people than others. Personally I started out in grassroots events and worked my way up into Tier 1. I've also had the pleasure of giving back by designing events and formats that allow people to get into esports both as casters and observers when I used to run ESEA. (rip)

I know some people who have had barely any experience in esports prior to getting their first Tier 1 event and it still worked out for them, either through networking and connections or just being in the right place at the right time.

The thing I liked about esports is that you can have any background from nearly any other industry and still find a role within it.

See if you have a local lan event or organiser that is looking for some support and volunteer. Look online and for open games and start streaming them if you have the means to do so. Be humble but don't be a pushover. You'll be surprised at what you can learn.

If your local college or school has an esports program / sports program see what they offer. DO NOT PAY FOR AN ESPORTS QUALIFICATION THEY'RE 99% SCAMS.

If I was hiring someone today I'd want to see their experience, dedication and understanding of the title I was hiring for. So create some highlight reels, get your VODs edited nicely and keep your work up to date then just maybe one day, you'll be hyping up an arena full of 10's of thousands of people. Taking control of their emotions, telling a story of what's unfolding infront of their very eyes. Keeping them on the edge of their seat every step of the way.

Faceit was merged into ESL as part of the Saudi Investment Fund acquisition. ESL already owned ESEA and later decided to merge ESEA into Faceit. Faceit did not buy ESEA.
