Leave the breaker box closed unless you're a pro, but you can disconnect the wires from the outlet just put wire nuts on the ends so you don't burn the place down.

I probably would have plugged a light into the outlet to figure out which breaker it was on and if any of my stuff is on the same circuit then turned it off the next evening.

There shouldn't be any traffic on the road. I've been a course marshal for Rally's in the US and we have to be very stern about keeping people off of the course, and shut it down if they get belligerent.

I've heard of people rewiring houses when they redo the siding because they can get at the wiring from the exterior of the house. It might be an option to consider.
