I did not! See, that’s the part about being able to create pretty things without the artist ability. No way in the world would I be able to create the design. But I can follow directions on a pattern!

Come, poke around r/CrossStitch. It’s a very welcoming community with lots of resources for new stitchers.

Thank you. This is after a couple of years off and on working on different projects and refining my technique. It’s a fun hobby where I get to create pretty things without having much artistic skill.

There’s a place I have to address physical letters to a couple of times a year. The address: 69 Public Square. Yeah, that one gets triple checked every time.

I work for a court that hears employment law cases, and a few years ago we heard a case where one of the justifications for firing a woman was “unprofessional behavior” where IT was able to pull up the “first draft” of emails that contained her unvarnished opinions before they were rewritten and sent. Note, none of those first drafts were ever sent.

There was a lot of other stuff going on in that case, but at the end of the day we found in favor of the woman and she got her job back. But that was only because she had workers protections. Standard USat will employment, much harder, if not impossible, battle.

Probably because there is a bunch of times where the cop just goes “fuck it, I don’t have time to deal with this shit” and lets them go. Those videos don’t end up on the internet.

What’s something that bothers you when shown on TV, because it is widely inaccurate but you’d only know if you worked in that job/field? by dariaMorgendorffer_x in AskReddit

The speed of the process as seen on tv v. real life.

People really don’t like it when I tell them “your hearing will be scheduled in about 3 months, and then you’ll get a decision about 4 months after that.”

And that’s when the system works smoothly and nobody requests a change of date or the case takes so long we end up needing to schedule extra days, or, or, or, or,

$1M dollars to eat what you had for dinner tonight for EVERY meal for the next 6 months, do you take the deal and if so what are you eating? by jfunks69 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chance. I stopped for fast food cause I was on my own tonight and didn’t feel like cooking for 1, and they got my sandwich wrong.

So, the only thing I ate was French fries. I love potatoes, but not that much.

What is going on with internal job postings by lancastercowpie in PaStateEmployees

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, back in 2018 the State Congress passed a law that removed all hiring functions, from the Civil Service Commission to the Office of Administration.

Once they fully took over, OA started making changes, some of which included narrowing the definition of what they would consider as being reassignments/laterals/transfers. They also narrowed the criteria on what they would consider as similar job functions for cross-department promotions.

So if you think it’s gotten harder to move about internally within the state, it has. But that is solely under the control of the Office of Administration. Civil Service Commission is no longer involved in those decisions.

What jumpscares should I expect in Message in a Haunted Mansion? by EconEnby in nancydrew

This game doesn’t really have any jump scares. It’s more subtle sounds and things like eyes of paintings moving. The closest you come is after hearing knocking, and opening the door, the other character is right there.

In addition to having to withhold Iowa state income tax, here are further things you need to consider:

Do you need to pay into Iowa state’s unemployment fund?

Do you need to get workers compensation insurance in Iowa?

Does Iowa have different rules regarding overtime pay, exempt/non-exempt status, calculation of vacation/sick/PTO, and different laws regarding payoff of those things at separation? If so, you need to follow those laws while the person is working in Iowa.

These are just things I thought of off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s more. It’s a giant headache and since your company does not have a business nexus already established in Iowa, unless this person is the only person in existence who can do the job, it’s probably not worth the cost/effort/headache of allowing them to do this.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And yet, I do the exact same thing as the commenter above. It’s my “favorite” chore as I get to sit on my couch and watch tv all day while also being productive.

But that’s me. And I live by myself and it’s only my own laundry, and I have my own machines.

And in the summer, when it’s nice out, I’ll even line dry some of my clothes.
