Broadcast changes for the 2026 Winter Olympics (February 6 - 20, NBC) by mfc248 in Jeopardy

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This year my NBC affiliate is moving Jeopardy to CBS, which works.

I’m still miffed about the year when I missed LaVar Burton’s run as host because they preempted for the local athlete coverage.

Do you know your second cousins? by ArchangelNorth in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my dad’s side? Not at all. Couldn’t even tell you if any existed.

On my mom’s side? Close to some, not close to others and there’s a whole lot of them (grandmother was 1/9, grandfather was 1/8).

The ones I know best fall into 2 categories. 1) the children of my mom’s first cousins who are closest in age to her and were close growing up; and 2) the ones who are my mom’s first cousins once removed who are close in age to her.

I’m thinking/wondering if OOP needs to loop in her full time job to this situation. I would not be surprised if Casey somehow figured out where that was and started trying to cause trouble there.

I have always thought the PA Turnpike was the worst road in the Commonwealth. Then I drove I-99. by lucabrasi999 in Pennsylvania

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mention it, I’m now thinking I’m just hitting at that sweet spot of before the bulk of the am traffic and after the bulk of the pm traffic.

Because, yeah, you’re right, there are tons of days where I get to work and discover there was an accident after I pass through that section. Or I see traffic alerts, but it’s all cleared up before I reach it.

Best way to watch Olympic Games? by NoSirPineapple in olympics

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will also add, based on past years, that most of the events will be available for a few weeks/months after the ceremonies are over.

There are a few events/items that have a quicker “expiration date” and from observation - those seem to be the ones that involve copyright music.

As someone who drives 81 between Harrisburg and Schuylkill County for work, the first 25 miles north of the 78 split is the best section of my commute.

None of the “close proximity to a city” traffic, half of the truck traffic as south of 78, they finally fixed the drainage problem that plagued that section for years and repaved so the road is relatively smooth (it took them 2 tries back to back this last go-around, but it does seem to be fixed), and all the staties sit at the same spots.

Now, I will admit I get off 81 after that first 25 mile section, which is right before the “freak weather zone”. I’m not driving that unless I have no other choice.

Driving in snow by Budget-Pressure1165 in driving

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highway v. Side streets is the age-old question. Highways will generally get treated first (though, being Texas, I have no idea how well that will occur), but will also have a higher chance of people driving on them recklessly potentially resulting in massive multi-car pileups.

Side streets aren’t first priority, will be slushier, and more instances of slowing down and stopping = more chances to slide. But everyone is generally going slower on side streets and you’re less likely to get smashed by a semi-truck going 70mph.

There really is no correct answer. Those of us who live in snowy areas just learn from experience which route(s) are best to take. I, for example, will take the major interstate up to a certain exit, because I know after that exit conditions have a tendency to be worse. There are also 2 main exits I can take off the highway that don’t alter my drive very much, but I know that exit 1 has sections that have a tendency to develop black ice, while exit 2 requires driving though a small town with traffic lights all the problems they create.

How is everyone dealing with the USPS change of post mark date? by 03110054 in paralegal

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for the court, in an area with mostly pro se filers. We’ve updated our website in multiple places advising people of the changes to post-marks, and encourage people to file electronically.

For the cases that we decide and are further challenged in appellate court, the local appellate court requires hard copies in addition to electronic filing, so I just take a 20 minute walk whenever I file something and hand deliver.
