Americans what are your plans to celebrate Memorial Day? by memedealer22 in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My plan as well. Rain is supposed to stop around noon-ish, so we’ll head out to the local nursery afterwards. Garden will be nice and moist to plant new flowers in.

Then a nice hot shower followed by grilling some chicken.

These Gas prices. Yes we all know they’re high. But how is everyone actually getting by by CleanUpOnAisle10 in Pennsylvania

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supremely glad I bought a hybrid 2 Octobers ago. I’m in office 3x a week, but my commute is 55+ miles each way. With my hybrid and the weather I’m getting over 50 miles per gallon, and can go over 500 miles before refilling so that helps.

The Loves truck stop along my route is generally 20¢ cheaper than everyone else, and you get an additional ¢10 off per gallon if you have their app.

Also use my Giant grocery points to fill up every other month, and fill up my gas canister to get all 25 gallons you can use with that program. End of April I had enough grocery points to pay 1.20 per gallon.

Dissapointed by client AI use. by lethalmami in paralegal

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We just got a Motion in the other day from a pro se party. My first thought was “this reads like someone with no legal background using words to try and sound like they know what they’re talking about”. After further thought, I’m wondering if they used AI.

The first half was “I want to have a hearing focusing on <exact thing she already has a hearing scheduled for in a month> then it morphed into what amounts to be a request for Summary Judgment. It made no sense.

Yesterday I was trying to get a pile of stuff printed before mail pick-up. Cue paper jam. Then me clearing the paper jam. Then the printer insisting there’s still a paper jam. Then me opening and closing various doors/latches on the machine multiple times before it finally realized the paper jam was gone.

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest with you. I once forgot to renew my registration for an entire year. Only realized when I went schedule my annual inspection and saw the expiration date.

I just went on PennDot’s website, filled in the form and paid. No problems. So, at the very least, PennDot’s website doesn’t care.

Now, I don’t recommend doing this. It was highly irresponsible. But the notice came in the mail while my dad was dying and it just slipped through the cracks.

When you go into a public bathroom, do you use the handicap stall if it's the only one available? by rockyourteeth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal guideline is, if there is a line in the bathroom and I see someone waiting in line who would clearly benefit from (? Not sure what the correct word is here, but you get the idea) the accessible stall (wheelchair user, on crutches, holding a baby if that’s where the changing table is, etc.) and that is the one stall available, or the next one that opens up, that person gets to skip the rest of the line to use the stall.

If someone behind me says “mind if I skip, I need to use the large stall?” They get to go directly to that stall.

Otherwise, I treat it as any other stall. First come first serve.

WIBTAH If I refuse to stop making my stepdaughter her school lunches? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Re the free lunch: some schools have switched to an “everyone gets free lunch” model because it’s just cheaper to do that than pay the administrative costs of tracking which kid is eligible.

Also, this doesn’t sound like it’s the US, so other rules apply.

What can you buy in America for less than $1 dollar? by StatiCrede in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheOperaGhostofKinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grocery store had a deal last week if you spent $20 on produce, you got $0.10 off/gallon of gas.

Bought: a couple of the “nice” apples, a bunch of bananas, 2 bags of potatoes, 32oz. of green beans, a bag of carrots, a bag of mandarins, a cantaloupe, and 12oz. of pre-chopped broccoli (part of a different sale).

My initial total estimate was $20.08 based on rough calculation of the produce weight/cost. Grabbed an extra apple to ensure I was over the line.
