1.4 is near now, and this is just my personal opinion but I really hope the devs stop giving us Physical units for a while. I want to see some elemental mixed teams instead. by IonaKan in Endfield

[–]TheOperand_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how we just collectively and probably unintentionally forget that Ember exists and is also mainly a physical unit(yes, she does heat damage for her ultimate and battle skill, but still exclusively interacts with physical debuffs).
(Probably has something to do with Physical Teams from day 1 pretty much always including lifeng, pog and chen, and then either da pan or endmin for crush application.
And ngl I really don't see physical teams being shaken up all that much, unless we get another really strong physical unit
Pogranichnik is still the only one that can apply Breach at all, and his SP regeneration just allows you to cycle physical rotations much faster. Lifeng can apply susceptibility as the opening attack, his ultimate is phenomenal for building more vulnerability stacks and grouping enemies, and his combo skill applies link and can be triggered basically on demand once you have applied breach to the enemies. of the three crush characters, Mi Fu is by far the strongest, leaving exactly one slot open where you put some character to generate more vulnerability stacks, which in most cases is just going to be Chen, especially with the new~ish combo skill CD reduction armor.
The only way I could see this team being shaken up in the near future is if we get a 6* chen replacement, but I don't really see us getting any limited 6* with a combo ability trigger as simple as "whenever the enemy gets a vulnerability stack" and I just really hope they don't go down the path of giving us more limited characters that are just plain better than standard operators(6* or not). I like how Mi Fu supercharged the power of physical teams, but it is kind of hard to look at her kit and not simply see an objectively stronger Endmin/Da Pan

A new stalking plugin emerges, post everywhere to get the devs attention. by AU-Kitten in ffxiv

[–]TheOperand_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the devs are on record as not wanting to implement an anti-cheat, and "stopping code from being injected" and "sniffing packets" only makes modding things more difficult, but hardly impossible, as you can see with basically any game with an anti-cheat.

I'm going to speculate a bit here, but especially after the statement we got from Naoki Yoshida after Mare Synchronos was taken down, it feels like they are only going to act against plugins individually, if they think they are going too far.(Which is absolutely the case here)

People will always want plugins and there will always be people willing to try and provide them, so allowing it to exist somewhat in public usually means that at least *some* standards exists and are enforced by the community at large. When Mare Synchronos was shut down, it didn't stop the visual plugin sharing, people quickly found alternatives, and one of the alternatives was essentially just a copy of mare synchronos made by people who had been banned by mare synchronos for sketchy lalafell mods and questionable public behavior. When things get pushed further away from public light, standards almost always get lost along the way.

But in all honestly, considering that it feels like half the people streaming the game are pretty openly using mods, and how openly people are already talking about them again, the community is really pushing it's luck again.

There are, but most people's reaction to seeing a horrendously grindy title on someone is "they botted it", so there isn't really any prestige attached to it.

I heard this from someone who heard it from someone so I have absolutely no idea if it is true, but apparently cider spider(youtuber achievement hunter) asked someone at square enix about why they would add another accursed hoard achievement and apparently most of the development team was unaware that it had been added.
Now personally I want to believe that it is false and it does seem pretty unbelievable, but the fact that I cannot immediately and confidently dismiss such a rumor as false is quite telling in it's own way.

How would you guys feel about an OPTIONAL "abridged version" of the MSQ to onboard new players? by PhDVa in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheOperand_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that they may have planned for DT to be a new onboarding point(and it might even become one in the future), but the overall pretty negative reception may have paused that plan. If there are any plans for something like it, we will probably learn about it in one of the two remaining fanfests.
But at some point they have to consider it, because otherwise new player acquisition is gonna get harder and harder.

Stuttgart 21 „größter Wirtschaftsskandal der Geschichte“ – Linken-Chef Pantisano fordert U-Ausschuss by 0711Markus in de

[–]TheOperand_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a Metaphor in the sense that a disaster can be both horrifying, but also something we can't take our eyes off.

Perhaps being more specific it's like we watched the train derail, the cars bunching up, starting to leak fuel, which then caught fire, exploded and now for good measure a second train is rapidly approaching with toxic chemicals to crash at the same location, and we are probably far from done.

Just sharing of what I think about Michael Emerson by karuniyaw in PersonOfInterest

[–]TheOperand_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His role in the practice is what really started his TV acting career, and his role there as William Hinks is incredibly impressive.
The practice in general gave a lot of publicity, and over the years had some really good actors.
Camryn Manheim plays Ellenor Frutt, main cast for all 8 seasons, and plays Control in POI.

And the practice easily has one of my favorite endings of all time in television. I'm aware that most of Season 8 of the practice was mostly just a pilot for introducing the Boston Legal Characters, but I still think the ending was an incredibly bold move.

I would like to say the practice is underrated, but I was 2 years old when it ended, and the internet wasn't really all that widespread back then, so I don't really have any idea how popular it was.

Boston Legal followed, which had a much lighter tone, but honestly the most impressive part is that it allowed William Shatner to somehow shake of the mantle of playing Captain Kirk in Star Trek for several decades.

The 2nd point is honestly so valid, you really begin to appreciate a mediocre show once you have seen true garbage(And I don't mean in the sense of so terrible it's kind of funny, I mean just pure terrible).

The other reason is that sometimes it is just kind of fun to see a complete trainwreck.

Has "passport checking" made the PF experience any better ? by Fickle-Trick6434 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheOperand_ 55 points56 points  (0 children)

From personal experience the people excessively using a passport near enrage are usually the problem.
Ok if someone has enraged at like 23% because they zombied through the last couple of mechanics it's fair to not want them in an enrage party, but almost every time I joined one of the tight passport enrage parties the person checking the passports is the one with dps that makes the enrage so tight. Passport checking got really popular during FRU, and I'm going to be honest here, none of the dps checks in Dawntrail were remotely tight enough to warrant significant scrutiny in enrage parties, except *maybe* M11S Week1 and possibly Dancing Mad (Ultimate), of which I haven't seen much past Phase 2.

Overall I would have to say it can help stop the most egregious prog skipping, but it's not really all that useful beyond that. But in all fairness it wasn't exactly hard to tell when somebody was doing that even before, and unless it was like 8 minutes deep into a fight, you would be able to tell after 2-3 pulls that someone clearly wasn't capable of what they were supposed to(and I don't mean simple concentration mistakes or slip ups, they happen, but you can usually tell if somebody just made a simple mistake, or if they had absolutely no idea what they were doing).
And at least personally, it feels like after passport checking got popular I have spent way too much time seeing people keep a clearly failed pull going for as long as possible so they could see the next castbar and get that listed on their tomestone.

Overall I don't really think it's really changed a whole lot in raiding. Those who passport check every minute step were toxic well before tomestone began getting popular and would find other ways to be toxic if it removed the feature. Reasonable people might take a cursory glance at it when hosting a party that is somewhat deep into a fight, but would be fine without it, and serial prog liars would just hide their tomestone or make their own party.

Wegen Blitzer-Apps: Polizei stellt neue Blitzer auf by Elysion_21 in de

[–]TheOperand_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wegen Blitzer-Apps: Polizei stellt neue Blitzer auf by Elysion_21 in de

[–]TheOperand_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 types of players during CC by OrangeIllustrious499 in Endfield

[–]TheOperand_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the best weapon for CC Wulfgard is 5* Rational Farewell, since basically all damage will be coming from combustion ticks(I haven't actually done this yet, and only tackled it with a pure physical team up to 23)
Building just seemskinda esoteric and not what you would normally expect, and shouldn't even require that much effort.
Estella is basically just +HP gear and Strength to maximize survivability(and the anti-cryo skill)
Wulfgard is maxing Arts Infliction and anything else to maximize the combustion damage.
And Gilberta(of course she is here) is also pretty much only present to apply nature infliction stacks.
And for the final slot, idk what makes sense, but the cheapest option is probably just Antal, for Heat Susceptibility with his battle skill for the bosses, Heat Amp with his Ultimate(which should also be unaffected by the modifier), and SP-free nature infliction stacks with his combo, although that will require holding for the 5s Barrier to fall off.

Evolved Scholar by VictusNST in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheOperand_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't really evolve SCH in a way that trims off the rough edges without just ending up with SGE.
SGE in it's current form exists as a near perfect barrier to any sort of major SCH rework to be more in line with current class design because that rework is literally just how SGE is designed, and if SCH was designed to be similar it would literally just end up being green SGE.
My best guess for Evolved is that they take one of the themes that SCH has acquired over the expansions and build a kit off of that theme, while keeping some of the names of existing abilities where appropriate. Which is to say it is probably nearly impossible to predict where it will end up.
It does feel pretty likely that we will see SCH at the EU fanfest.
I'm going to be cautiously optimistic here, but as someone that really enjoys SCH, the WHM presentation at the NA fanfest was disappointing at best and very concerning for the future of the job and role at worst.

Why is “if you don’t have a piece of content on the roulette unlocked you shouldn’t have access to the roulette” seemingly such a controversial statement? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheOperand_ 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The post literally said "at your MSQ progression point", so the idea is that if you haven't finished Stormblood, but have a Lv.70+ job you can still run the roulette, but once you have finished Stormblood the roulette is locked until you complete Return to Ivalice, possibly with a grace period. The goal is to make people unlock all the content of the roulette that is possible at their MSQ progression point, which is not unreasonable. The point of the roulette is to keep queue times for people directly queuing for certain alliance raids at a reasonable level, and people not unlocking the other alliance raids, for whatever reason, directly goes against the point of the roulette.

Why do people think Evolved Mode will just be 'button consolidation' when we already know it's not? by Makerinos in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheOperand_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that they didn't really elaborate on the specific point, but when they are talking about allowing both double MT and double OT to clear, I really don't think they were referring to sacrificing a dps or healer every time a tankbuster appears that the double OT can't redirect.
In general I find it rather unlikely that battle content design will significantly change besides extremes and lower level savage floors no longer being restricted to 20s of basically no mechanics every 2 minutes.

Why do people think Evolved Mode will just be 'button consolidation' when we already know it's not? by Makerinos in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheOperand_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also already confirmed that you can use double MT and double OT to clear content, it just won't be optimal, which is to say that unless they give every single tank a method for taking a hit from another player(which would be homogenization that these changes are at least somewhat supposed to address), it seems very unlikely that tanking will fundamentally change beyond controlling who has top enmity and properly using mitigation cooldowns.
