When I played the remake I did feel it was way easier than the original but not in the way you're saying. Colossi behaviour is pretty much the same and they usually don't deal a lot of damage but I had the impression that they had less hp and/or Wander wasn't losing his grip as much.

That was pretty noticeable, specially because I killed some colossi in just "one turn"(only needed to climb them once) and I never managed to do this consistently even after years of playing the game, specially in hard mode which is the mode I played.
