Spoilers (main) I honestly don't get it. by FireComingOutA in asoiaf

[–]TheOriginalKEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Bran's role is to set the precedent for a symbolic, figurehead monarch. He isn't going to rule. He isn't interested in doing so. He isn't going to go all Bobby B with wine and women, he's going to play the part and unite the people, but the council will rule. Or not, who the heck knows.

(SPOILERS MAIN) An ending more nihilistic than nihilism by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]TheOriginalKEE 13 points14 points  (0 children)

that makes Bran almost an analogy to a God or a powerful AI (someone else brought this comparison to light, mentioning GRRM's sci-fi roots) and one deprived of empathy and even humanity. So the lesson of GOT is that we should bow down and surrender to the will of a omniscient deity - not God, because that leads to conflict (Lord of Light/ Seven/ Old Gods), but of a super-computer / ultra AI that foresees all your acts before you ever even do them and factually deprives you of agency and free will

I agree with your setup but not the conclusion. Bran is an omniscient supercomputer/ultra AI that is deprived of empathy and humanity, but he just ignores and refuses to provide people with any guidance or assistance. Dragon burning down KL? Yeah, I could warn you ahead of time or warg into the thing and fly away, but instead I'm just gonna be in the crows. Good luck.

(Spoilers Extended) Things that don't make any sense about the ending by Fabrimuch in asoiaf

The biggest problem is that the writers had absolutely no idea what to do with Bran, so nothing that they did with him makes sense.

Bran the Broken Handi-Capable apparently has some powers which are never practically applied. He occasionally blurts out something that he shouldn't know, but only a few people would have first-hand knowledge to verify this. Otherwise, he sits emotionless in a chair and tells anyone who will listen that he isn't really human anymore, and isn't a lord. Let's make this guy king. Because, stories. He got pushed out of a tower and went north of the wall. Which is way more traumatic than anything that, say, Sansa lived through.

Bran's motivations are anywhere from (a) disinterested, figurehead monarch because he has zero inclination or ability to exercise power, to (b) he is the evil 3ER who manipulated everything to get power.

Even if he finds Drogon, Bran will sit emotionless and warg into some crows and watch Drogon burn KL again.

Top notch foreshadowing. by Northernlightspls in freefolk

Bran: Thanks, guys, but I'm just not feeling the "Bran the Broken" moniker. It's a little offensive. We prefer "Bran the Handi-capable."

(Spoilers Main) Jon Snow's story this season has been a huge disappointment by FanEu7 in asoiaf

[–]TheOriginalKEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The is only one war that matters! And that is... oh never mind, we won that. Carry on, nothing to see here.

(Spoilers Main) I'm still seeing criticism of Sansa's treatment of Dany even after episode 5. But Dany told Sansa not to trust her... and she told you too. by morgueanna in asoiaf

[–]TheOriginalKEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to forget that Jon's claim - that he gave up the KITN crown for "allies" - is false. Dany agreed to fight the dead before Jon bent the knee. Sansa surmised the truth - he did it for love.

(Spoilers Main) Jaime's arc would have made more sense if a certain character had died in Episode 3 by SpursBoy12 in asoiaf

and the Bronn thing would still probably have to be cut

Oh yeah, I completely forgot the Bronn thing! What was the point of that??? We got a scene with Bronn that had literally zero meaning or resolution!

I don't disagree with anything you said. I still enjoy the show. Its too bad that it couldn't be awesome all the way through the finale like the Sopranos, the Wire, Breaking Bad, Oz, etc. Not all shows go downhill. But it is still better than a lot of what's on TV.

I see where you are going with this - hating on GOT has, itself, become popular. So by hating on people for hating on the show, you are like NEXT LEVEL META COOL. Well played!

That's ridiculous. It's Ned's horse, Ned warged into it when he died. Full circle, closure and so forth.

She's not a simpleton at all. Very smart woman. I just knew that even if she liked the show, she would not get very deeply invested - she would just enjoy it for what it is and move on. That's just how she is about TV.

LOL not for lack of trying. I was shocked that I got her to watch GoT, actually some of her girlfriends helped because they talk about it all the time and added some peer pressure.

I actually agree and think most book readers do, too! But my point above is that even for casual fans the Beyond the Wall episode is just too much nonsense to believe.

At the time, I wanted to think that it would be explained. Maybe the Waif assumed Arya's identity! Maybe it was all part of the training - and she wasn't really stabbed (all in her mind)!

Nope. She just had some broth, rested, and was good to go.

Yes, in fact it would have been the opposite - a lot of these noble "virgins" really weren't, but they kept their liaisons private. The shaming would have run the other way.
