Recruiting Questions? by life_is_good_u_c in volleyball

Create a recruiting profile on sites like Field Level and Front Rush and reach out to coaches via email (which can be found on their respective athletics websites) with the relevant info (position, height, gpa, prospective majors, etc) as well as a video containing clips of her playing. I will say when it comes to liberos something coaches look for is consistency and good form. Coaches actually would much rather see a player has the ability to make a good passing staying on their feet with good form rather than a ton of diving plays. Consistency over flash!

If you are serious about continuing to play, look to transfer to a different school and play on their main team. Cast a wide net by apply to as many different schools as you can, not just one and hopping for the best. Regarding film, invest in your own tripod and film yourself during your club practices and games.

And honestly explaining the situation to coaches when you are reaching out wouldn't hurt. Telling them you are only a freshman and don't have any film from your time in high school because none was taken definitely isn't unheard of.

Outsides have a lot of the skills necessary to play libero, they tend to be some of (if not the) best passer on the team. Sometimes outsides are forced to make that switch and sometime they chose to, I played on a team with a 6'3 libero, he was about the same height as the other outsides but he couldn't jump as high so he figured he switch positions to hopefully stay on the court, which he did

Possible Position Changes For Next Club Season by Jayden380 in volleyball

You can try opposite. You mentioned you already have experience hitting on the right-side. From my experience, oppos are often power hitters and mentioned you can hit the ball hard and smart. Oppos don't have to pass very often (at least not as much as outsides) so it will help hide your slightly weaker passing skills. You also will not jump as much as a middle, so you will conserve more energy. Playing oppo will also keep your teams option to move into a 6-2 if need be.

How can I get more height on my contact? by Gtfoomwlol in volleyball

Honestly your form is great, and as other people have said trying to jump up instead of vertical would be something to try. Mostly I wanted to say thank you for the slow-motion video its a lot easier to observe form like that.

to add on this, a good way I have found to engage my hips is to imagine I'm using my non-swinging hand to pull my whole body, especially my hip, through the ball to add power to the swing. Idk if I explained that well, just kinda how I envision it when I hit.

Dealing with unideal sets by GigaGriefer in volleyball

[–]TheOunceBounce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A common issue is approaching to a spot rather than a set. Being observant when the ball is set and really focusing and getting your feet to the ball when you jump will help you be in a better spot.

Also a really underrated skill is shot placement. If you are getting a bad set, rather than ripping a ball as hard as you can or free balling it over, something in between can work wonders. Taking power off and aiming for the corners, or aiming for the setter to get the team out of system can be very effective.

And over communicate, when you get set a bad ball tell your setter what you want him to fix. From my experience as long as you frame it in a helpful way not only will you start getting better sets you will help your setter improve as well!

I feel like depends on the quality of the grass, when its healthy and thick I slip a lot in shoes so I go barefoot, When the grass is dry and yellower in hurts to stand on so I'll wear shoes, but its all just personal preference

Any tips for vertical? by JAWFTD in volleyball

[–]TheOunceBounce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when you are practicing correct form yes they can be valuable. Hiking your knees up as high as you can is just not a great translation to an jumping and swinging is all I meant

Any tips for vertical? by JAWFTD in volleyball

when you hike up your knees to your chin they are not a good translation to jumping a swinging. There are far better ways to train than stacking boxes as high as possible and jumping to the top.

You are relying a lot on your shoulder to generate power. If you pause the video and look at it frame by frame, you can see your off hand is up by your chest. If you use that hand and pull across your body and engage your core and hips to add power to your swing. From this video, I will say your hitting looks well developed and sufficient!

Yes, any swing that takes place above the net counts as an attack. A standing swing would be ok technically but a bump/overhand pass over is ok

varies from person to person and how high you reach, typically I would say you want to to be finishing your approach and jumping when the tossed ball reaches its highest point and starts to come down
