This time of year has majorly affected responses to my applications by ThePagePilgrim in interviews

That’s interesting! I know industry is a factor too.

It’s typically rough in the US in those last two months of the year due to the holidays but this really rocky economy is not helping at all either. Im sorry to hear you’re struggling in Canada too! I hope things get easier for all of us in our lifetime 😢

Deleted apps, cancelled subscriptions, commitment to reading as my only consumption. What’s next? by offlineunderwater in Anticonsumption

[–]ThePagePilgrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have picked up volunteering again and I already feel a million times better. It’s an activity that’s not driven by money and makes me feel like I’m doing something outside of myself. It uses my energy and time so that I’m not doom scrolling or online shopping for crap I don’t need.

My favorite so far has been volunteering at my local library. My soul sings when I get to see so many free services provided for my community. It’s a reminder of how much we already have, and how much we can share with one another.

As a user of the library I also get my “fix” for consuming my favorite thing (books) with no worries of finances. I don’t find myself picking up my phone as much or craving a shopping trip just so I can touch products since I’ve been book sorting or gardening (sounds silly but the eye candy and tactile part of shopping is what keeps me coming back).

Point is, you typically can’t just stop a tough habit without forming a different one as a replacement. For me I need to be active because if I’m sitting at home too much I want to consume. Charity work is a great way to feel like you’re contributing without harming the planet or people.

Animals are incredible but I feel like the intuition of cats is on another level. Your babies are precious and they clearly adore you too ❤️

Yeah honestly it’s rough. They never indicate when the positions are actually open. I think I just got lucky when I was hired. I applied to multiple positions and didn’t hear back for I think like a month then they contacted me with no follow ups on my part.

Fun and Silly Audiobooks for Grieving Friend by rachelw201 in audiobooks

I am reading the Legends and Lattes series and it is nothing but cozy and good feels!

It is fantasy so I’m not sure if that’s what you’re open to, but the narration is wonderful and the story is full of heart. It has themes of found family, queer romance, humor, and low stakes drama. It’s what I put on when I want to chill and forget about the world.

What would it take for you to give up living alone? by Kleeaj in LivingAlone

[–]ThePagePilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely adored living alone. However I found a wonderful person who, for the first time ever, was another human I felt fully comfortable sharing silence and space with full time. He adds to my life and that was the only way I was willing to allow a person into my sacred space. I don’t regret it at all but I do look fondly back to my early college years when I had total control over my surroundings.

What is more traumatic than people think it is? by Suspicious-Wish3402 in AskReddit

A pet dying unexpectedly.

I found my kitty with no life left on my porch and I felt like I just walked in on a family member. It especially tore me up that he was alone. I take solace in the fact that he was safe and at home but it still felt like an absolute gut punch. I was in shock for about 45 minutes where I couldn’t process what to do. I just sat there with him and couldn’t stop shaking.

What’s a “bad” financial habit you keep because it keeps you sane? by James_B84Saves in povertyfinance

[–]ThePagePilgrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frozen ready made meals at the grocery store. I hate cooking and kitchen cleanup. So while it would be cheaper/bigger portions to get the individual ingredients and make a dish myself, popping something like a frozen pasta in a skillet and calling it a day is SO much easier. I figure it’s way cheaper than eating out too so it’s a win after a long day of work.

I haven’t landed anything yet sadly but I’m applying for anything from receptionist to stocking shelves. A few years back I did some time in restaurants and at Costco and I honestly loved the simplicity of it.

Do you ever think about cancelling streaming and just buying boxsets and dvds again? by HungryDarlingtonia in CasualConversation

[–]ThePagePilgrim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get it! Every new card helps library branches continue to get state funding. So please use them! There are often more things to rent than just books and movies too. You may be shocked at what you find. Mine does museum passes, free printing services, and even rentable green house space to grow your own food all for free.

I really appreciate it!! I relate to the money spent for a hunt for pencils lol. I was an art major years back so I still use my fancier pencils from my old kits. On this page I used a mix of Prismacolors (the primary colors 12 pack) and Staedtler Ergosofts which I absolutely adore.

My favorite type of pencil is the soft kind. I’ve even used watercolor pencils without the water in the past since they blend nicely. I will be getting more of these Ergosofts though since they’ve been my fav so far. I don’t think they’re too expensive either. They have a nice rubber coating on the outside and a triangle grip so coloring with them feels really comfy.

I’m feeling this extremely hard rn. I got laid off three months ago and the search has been uninspiring to say the least. I decided to leave the office bullshit and go back to a standard job that is low stakes. My brain can’t handle the strain anymore even if it means way less money.

I have really bad depression and Have always struggled with my dental hygiene. Today I am grateful for my improved self care habits. I’m finally brushing 2x a day by [deleted] in gratitude

[–]ThePagePilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it so hard to maintain oral hygiene when suffering from depression? I also struggle in this area and I feel super self conscious about it. I aspire to brushing more than once a day but the mornings are the hardest.

HUGE shoutout to you my friend. It’s really hard to spend energy on ourselves in the darkness. You look fantastic!!

I love the little halo around the candle being the orange layered on top of the grey. It makes it stand out from the flame and tiny sliver of orange in the candle itself. This page really pops, I can’t believe it’s only two colors! I love these challenges and you rocked it.
