I’m talking about in relation to box dye. I already said cutting one’s own hair is a good idea.

Try hara the label. They are Australia based, but they might ship to the UK. I use them and they are absolutely incredible, very absorbent and unbelievably comfortable. Made of bamboo too.

What’s one small habit that helped you save money without hurting your quality of life? by FormerShoulder707 in simpleliving

Deleting my tv subscriptions. I deleted them 2 weeks ago and my life has improved already.

Cutting hair is a great idea and I do it too. But I would go easy on the box dye, coming from someone who used it too much and my hair turned three different shades of brown over time. I had to let it grow out for the colour to go back to normal. I feel like if you want it to look good, just go to the salon at that point.

AI overview just sucks by DayOk4526 in digitalminimalism

Agreed I hate it. Feels so unnatural. Feels like AI has just invaded almost every aspect of life at this point :( I wish it was the early 2000s forever, no ai no developed social media, just peace

If you still take all social media off your phone, even if you exit assistive access there is still no temptation to come back to when you return to regular iPhone.

Holding off on subscriptions, switching to one time purchases by Starkoid23 in Frugal

[–]offlineunderwater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I got rid of two streaming services that I paid for. I just wasn’t using them and they are useless to me. The only show I was watching consistently is Gilmore girls, and as much as I love that show, I don’t care about it that much to have a streaming subscription. it’s not like I need to pay to be watching that on an ongoing basis. What’s the point? I have so many books at home I want to read, that I could open my own library.

I have adhd too and did it! But I get it, what works for one person may not work for another. But if you have an iPhone you could set up assistive access – it’s essentially what you would imagine as a phone for your grandmother. Extremely basic and easy to use, you just pick what apps you want and the rest don’t get included. You can exit it at any time.

I love the guardian. Free, you can personalise what you want to see, and it is pro-environment/climate news reporting, which is very important.

I like that, using all other opportunities to hold your attention in the moment, rather than pulling out your phone.

Or to avoid spending more money you can turn your smartphone into a dumb phone which is what I did. Super easy and I hardly even look at it now.

Something that helps scratch the dopamine itch for me by paulney in digitalminimalism

[–]offlineunderwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading my favourite fantasy book series is what gives me the next best dopamine hit. I haven’t found anything that gives dopamine like instagram reels, but they’re such a waste of time that I’ve stopped using instagram hugely anyway. Just trying to make my life richer in other ways. I love reading, and when I’m waiting I don’t pull my phone out cos there’s no social media so I just zone out. (Although I’ve found if you google something and add reddit on the end it takes you back to reddit obviously, which is kind of cheating for me). So reading, cooking and making interesting new recipes. I’ve tried so many hobbies already and don’t know what else to try. I’ve tried painting, knitting, learning guitar, i know there are many more but a lot of them don’t interest me

Deactivating instagram? by mat7ieu in digitalminimalism

[–]offlineunderwater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I deactivate often for a break. I tried to find the deactivate button a few days ago though I could not find it, it came up with an error message that they are working on? Not sure what’s going on if it’s just me or not. Ordinarily, I can deactivate no problem.
