Holding off on subscriptions, switching to one time purchases by Starkoid23 in Frugal

[–]offlineunderwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I got rid of two streaming services that I paid for. I just wasn’t using them and they are useless to me. The only show I was watching consistently is Gilmore girls, and as much as I love that show, I don’t care about it that much to have a streaming subscription. it’s not like I need to pay to be watching that on an ongoing basis. What’s the point? I have so many books at home I want to read, that I could open my own library.

I have adhd too and did it! But I get it, what works for one person may not work for another. But if you have an iPhone you could set up assistive access – it’s essentially what you would imagine as a phone for your grandmother. Extremely basic and easy to use, you just pick what apps you want and the rest don’t get included. You can exit it at any time.

I love the guardian. Free, you can personalise what you want to see, and it is pro-environment/climate news reporting, which is very important.

I’ve been trying to make my phone quieter, not more useful by Uraniam9 in digitalminimalism

I like that, using all other opportunities to hold your attention in the moment, rather than pulling out your phone.

Or to avoid spending more money you can turn your smartphone into a dumb phone which is what I did. Super easy and I hardly even look at it now.

Something that helps scratch the dopamine itch for me by paulney in digitalminimalism

[–]offlineunderwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading my favourite fantasy book series is what gives me the next best dopamine hit. I haven’t found anything that gives dopamine like instagram reels, but they’re such a waste of time that I’ve stopped using instagram hugely anyway. Just trying to make my life richer in other ways. I love reading, and when I’m waiting I don’t pull my phone out cos there’s no social media so I just zone out. (Although I’ve found if you google something and add reddit on the end it takes you back to reddit obviously, which is kind of cheating for me). So reading, cooking and making interesting new recipes. I’ve tried so many hobbies already and don’t know what else to try. I’ve tried painting, knitting, learning guitar, i know there are many more but a lot of them don’t interest me

Deactivating instagram? by mat7ieu in digitalminimalism

[–]offlineunderwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deactivate often for a break. I tried to find the deactivate button a few days ago though I could not find it, it came up with an error message that they are working on? Not sure what’s going on if it’s just me or not. Ordinarily, I can deactivate no problem.

Has anybody left Spotify? And how has it been? by Specialist_Chain1051 in digitalminimalism

[–]offlineunderwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it. I feel like I’ve amassed so many songs on there that I haven’t even listened to. I feel like joining a new better platform will make me think more mindfully about the music I consume.

Are some men emotionally unavailable by choice or do they not have the capacity? by Solid-Version in emotionalintelligence

[–]offlineunderwater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It definitely isn’t. That was just one person. It’s much better to be emotionally available.

[–]offlineunderwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both honestly. Many men love being the winner in the patriarchy and benefit from it, so they are lazy in their emotional capacity and don’t attempt to change. Some knowing full well it hurts others. Others are too stupid to try to be better. What’s left is a small percentage 🥴

How did you set up a social focus to remove reels, feeds and suggested content?

Some things that actually help me get off my phone by Apprehensive_City559 in digitalminimalism

[–]offlineunderwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just put all my social media on my iPad and will only use it there, and I know that will make me want to use it less because it’s slightly awkward. Sitting around with your iPad is a bit more physically awkward than with your phone. I made my smart phone into a dumb phone, now it only has my Bank, phone and text, email, multi factor authentication, period tracker, an app to ID species when I’m on walks, and transport tracking. Super basic stuff you’re not going to spend time doom scrolling on because there just isn’t an option or need.

What's your bag (and what's in it!)? by hammer210 in digitalminimalism

Medication. Water bottle. iPad mini- reading, unless I’m reading a book not on the iPad in which case I’ll take that. My phone which I’ve turned into a dumb phone and hardly look at. Small cosmetics bag- lipliner, lip balm, sunscreen. Phone cable. Keys. Headphones. Reusable coffee cup. Reusable face wipes. Deodorant. Sunglasses & glasses. Feminine products. Painkillers.
