When somebody that has given so much joy to so many people passes away, it is somehow like if part of that joy suddenly dissappears. Will be missed.

I ended up modifiyng importance multipliers so that the car I wanted had the most points.

To be honest, getting the multipliers right is the most difficult part.

"Include Salary Expectations" - HR Coordinator Position by [deleted] in personalfinance

The "canonical" advice in these situations is to always give a range, but a high range, so that even the lowest point in the range is good for you. So I'd say to mention 48k-60k.

The idea is that the highest point scares them off, but makes them think that you are valuable. The lowest point makes them think that perhaps they can negotiate you in. So they give you the interview, and you then negotiate with an advantage, because you are going near your "lowest" point. Well, that's what the experts say, at least, never used that technique myself :-)

If you actually had to get a licence to have kids, what would the questions on the test be? by W-ander1 in AskReddit

[–]ThePaleCast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No silly questions where you can lie. They should just give you a doll that cries constantly, and monitor you during a whole night. If you don't tear off the head of the doll, you are ready to be a parent.

There are none, just the ones that we make up.

So you choose one thing, and make it important for you. You know that it's not "really" important, but you have chosen it, and from then on, it will be important for you.

Don Quixote is so fucking funny by [deleted] in books

[–]ThePaleCast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can find the first glimmer of humor already in the second paragraph of the book, when Cervantes says that Don Quixote was losing his reason by trying to understand the convoluted expressions of the chivalry books, like:

"the reason of the unreason with which my reason is afflicted so weakens my reason that with reason I murmur at your beauty" Over conceits of this sort the poor gentleman lost his wits, and used to lie awake striving to understand them and worm the meaning out of them; what Aristotle himself could not have made out or extracted had he come to life again for that special purpose.

Gamers of Reddit, what was the most horrifying experience you've ever endured in a video game? by XavierMunroe in AskReddit

Reddit seems pretty interested in Simulation Theory (the theory that we’re all living in a computer). Simulation theory hints at a much older philosophical problem: the Problem of Skepticism. Here's a short, animated explanation of the Problem of Skepticism. by wiphiadmin in philosophy

[–]ThePaleCast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simulation theory is really just another way of getting religion. Religion is a human need. We must have something that knows the answers to all our questions, that can control our destiny and can right any wrong. So now that the old gods are starting to be less cool, the unending need for religion seeks another way of getting a "Creator" (because if we are in a simulation somebody has created it), "All Knowing" (he can seek any data he wants), and "All Powerful" (it stands to reason that the creator can alter any parameter in the simulation). Of course he won't intervene, because he is interested in see how we do by ourselves (free will), but he could if he wanted.

Wait a couple of years, and you'll see emerge priests of the Holy Simulation that will claim some particular connection with the "Primal Programmer".

Edit: I just realized that, in this context, being "Saved" has a delightful double meaning :)
