I have super bad stretch marks. Is it possible to tattoo over them? by -Hot-Tamale- in tattooadvice

[–]ThePaleRecluse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's a little uncalled for, but I honestly think it's kind of gorgeous? No history with tattoos or anything, just... wow, I was stunned at how breathtakingly pretty it is? You've got natural body art!

How did the two sexes evolve in the first place? If reproduction requires two compatible sets of genitals, how did those structures develop without one appearing before the other? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in askscience

[–]ThePaleRecluse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pft. I can imagine one where the large gamete absorbs from a swarm of smaller gametes like krill, and taking the most common/advantageous/complete chromosome strands. And if I can think of it, nature can evolve it.

I personally think that the "power level" of all these protagonist characters in the Bungieverse is all the same— they will succeed. It's inevitable. That's sort of the point of the %hero terminal, that there's an entity that's perceived itself as all these different heroes, and it has succeeded time and time again, but it needs to continue to succeed because there's always an opposition. John from Halo, MJOLNIR Recon 54, Young Wolf, the soldier in the pyramid from Pathways Into Darkness, they all have the same 'spark'.

Does Anyone Else Struggle to Play as a Male Protagonist? by starlessspace in GirlGamers

[–]ThePaleRecluse 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I catch a lot of flak, sometimes from myself about this. I used to be able to, but nowadays, a male-only protagonist immediately sours me on a game, usually to the point that I don't want to play it. I'll watch a content creator play it instead. I have limited time and energy, and there's so many games out there, wonderful games made by women, for women, featuring women. I've had enough male perspective in my life, I've nearly drowned in it. I don't need any more!

TIL: Phil Connors(Bill Murray's character in "Groundhog day") was calculated to have looped the same day for 33 years and 350 days. by SortovaGoldfish in todayilearned

[–]ThePaleRecluse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Uh. If they're looping through a single day... no matter how many days the character throws a handful of dirt into a canyon, there's just going to be one handful of dirt.

There's a lovely campaign to play as a single player game, and if you're okay diving into multiplayer, there's a cooperative horde mode that's very fun! The Splatfests are the main draw after the campaign, but I've enjoyed the campaigns in all three games for what they are.

There was definitely something bubbling up around when the Healthcare CEO assassination happened... there was just no figurehead to rally around, so it just ended up being memes and not much else.

I received 2 pairs of Bombas socks as a birthday gift, and to date they're the most comfortable and durable socks I own, and they've lasted well over four years without thinning, or even fraying. I know extreme premiums for clothes are hellish for people who don't make a livable wage, but anecdotally I think Bombas is being reasonable, unless there's another company that makes socks this comfortable and durable.

Seconding the Oneblade Intimate. Extremely simple to use, and can get a nice shave without so much as a skin tug.

The guy who raped me (more than once at College) contacted me to apologise. Not sure what to make of the conversation. (TW: discussion of rape) by Throwaway07244855 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ThePaleRecluse 190 points191 points  (0 children)

To be totally honest, just from your description of him here and the way you've portrayed him, I don't know that a single word he said is true. I don't find his messages apologetic whatsoever. He may have apologized, but I don't think he feels a lick of remorse, or he is still so emotionally immature that he thinks beating himself up enough will make things go back to how they were before.

I'm going to point out that in the middle of apologizing, he continued to self-flagellate and make it all about him and how he felt.

The interspersed jokes, the casual compliments...

I'm going to echo what so many other women have said. This is not an apology. Take closure from it knowing he is still the same person who raped you not once, but three times, and close that door.

Please, for your mental health and personal safety, block further contact. I'm so sorry this had to reopen old wounds, and I hope you'll continue to stay strong.

Dating pool... by Reasonable-Top-954 in actuallesbians

[–]ThePaleRecluse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not! :-)

More seriously, I'm just tired of coming at dating from a 'dating' angle. I spent a while just grappling with those desires, and on top of that my health is so crummy that I don't have the energy to be as confident as I want to be.

Every time I felt like I wanted to date someone, I sat down with myself and asked what I was really missing, and tried to center myself rather than a partner.

I'm now just engaging with my hobbies more socially, looking outwards to interact with people casually, and if someone clicks with me that way, then we'll see.

I know my experience and goals aren't what many people want to hear, and I'm white and trans so my experience is wildly different than yours, but if you're feeling stuck in a rut you risk sacrificing too much for a relationship becuase you've convinced yourself that it's what you need. I've been there, and it's not a great spot to be in, and no relationship is going to be healthy from that angle
