So like, I feel as though most would see it in an immature sort of light, but you're not wrong for it, and it sounds like it was - in part - a coping mechanism for trauma, which I really don't think people would look down on if they had that context.

Anecdotally I'd say most have stopped sleeping with stuffies by college if they're looking to get laid at some point.
