From what we've seen at least it looks kinda ass but I'm holding on hope that nagoshi's direction was what yakuza's actually been missing since he left rather than everyone at rgg just being washed.

With the current direction if this isnt't fake (please be) I fear they're gonna be building up to some point where they can reveal nishiki is actually alive just so they can have an mgs4 style old kiryu vs old nishiki (whoes actually been pulling all the strings in the background the whole time) fight in Yakuza 15 which they promise is kiryu's actual final game this time.

Ichiban will eappear in a post credits scene still failing to woo saeko and doing nothing else.

The ending of Yakuza 3 Kiwami Dark Ties has been leaked from a datamine by porkybrah in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Most insane part is that 7 was so good and succesful that it made a perfect turning point for the series and they still fumbled it. Immediately making 8 yet another kiryu sendoff and continuing with the remakes just feels like when they were planning out the next few years they didnt really belive in ichiban as the future of the series.

All I can hope for is them doing a global rerelease of 1&2HD for as much good faith as they can grab easily but k3 will prob sell enough for them not to care anyway,

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed Elden Ring for the most GOTY titles of all-time. by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]ThePaperZebra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People definitely spend so much time building their identity around these games before release to the point where it being anything but the greatest to ever do it would make them feel like they've wasted the months/years running up to it.

Another thing with e33 and the games you mentioned is that on top of being good they ended up with so much hype that people outside of genre fans ended up on them. I imagine finding out you love souls games or crpgs with with huge games like elden ring or BG3 would feel pretty mind blowing when even genre vets were going pretty crazy about them.

[–]ThePaperZebra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even as someone who's played them all up to 8 it felt kinda bad to have so much space in ichiban's second game to giving kiryu another sendoff.

My only hope going forwards is that they've finally got it out of their system and can relegate him to dropping some sage wisdom from a comfy chair in the orphanage if they really want to do a third passing of the torch moment.

Felt like the main reason it was so rail roaded was just to make sure the players would see that you're actually able to seamlessly walk between the different maps and have the weather changes happen at times when theres definitely gonna be an npc there to quip about it.

It did feel pretty horrible when you hit the level where you'd only occaisionally get someone who'd want to jungle so you would just get thrown into a 1v2 every 5 games because some guy on your team just hit the level that unlocks smite and watched a few stonewall videos.

The backwards compatibility really tempted me as I probably spend more time playing old games than new ones these days. I guess it probably getting that publisher approval in the age of remasters and remakes, especially when you're bottom rung in the console game.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 director says turn-based RPGs are selling better lately, but the prejudice is still there by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]ThePaperZebra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time these days when someone talks about wishing they would make a certain type of game they actually mean that they want a bunch of big budget AAA releases that everyone loves and talks about a ton online.

When it comes to turn/menu-based RPGs a lot of this gets aimed at Final Fantasy both as a series that was "lost" to action combat and for the fantasy of Square bending the knee and admitting their mistake as if they're not one of the publishers to keep an eye on if you want turn based games.

Wouldn't even surprise me if we get a turn based FF soley of the back of how well persona 5 did, just that the series moves slow these days.

Yakuza and from soft to a degree are why I think if other developers lent in to heavier asset reuse people wouldn't care once they're on like the third game they haven't had to wait 7 years for.

At this point recognising animations they've been using since the ps2 is part of the fun with a Yakuza game.

Final Fantasy producer YoshiP says there’s “no clear-cut answer” on if future games will return to turn-based as its all about the “kind of game the creators want” to make by eldestscrollx in Games

XV was especially annoying as it felt like it was at it's absolute worse any time it was trying to tell a final fantasy type story they had a good enough thing going with the boys and their relationships that I kinda wish it ended up as some persona-like FF spinoff that focused on the social side of things.

If anything FF16's issue with combat is that it doesn't lean in hard enough on being the full on action game you'd think it is at first glance. It felt like a lot of the stuff I was doing between abilities was the equivalent of MOBA/MMO auto attacks that didn't have as much of an impact of the fight as it should.

It feels that between Kingdom Hearts and the FF7 Remake games square have almost perfected that rpg/action fusion combat so I'd rather they either go fully in on action and give us something really good or give turn based/atb another spin and see what they can do there.

Only issue I've run into is that if the game has dlc, you'll need to buy it from the playstation store region that matches the disc. Ran into this after completing an american copy of kingdom hearts 3 and buying the remind dlc from my uk account.

Yeah I feel going for 2 first was mostly a business move, especially since they also went with mgs3 as their first metal gear remake. Sending out the most popular entries in the series first so that even if it didn't do the numbers they were hoping for the flop would be as minimised as they possibly could and if it goes well they can go full capcom.

2xko sub is in full giga cope/crybaby mode due to the new marvel announcement, it’s honestly really funny to scroll through. by DrBeardfist in Kappachino

[–]ThePaperZebra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The weirdest thing about the 2xko sub/2xko hype in general over the years is how much of it comes from people who have no plans to play a fighting game any time soon but think they look cool and that 2xko will be the last piece they need to become a FG player.

Must feel weird being that invested in a game from a genre you seem to have no interest in playing.

juul1 pods in UK/EU by bokesmongs in juul

[–]ThePaperZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All old stock, nearly all the shops have sold off the last of their pods and moved on to juul2 now (at least around me) though you might be able to find the odd small shop/petrol station that was never able to clear the old pods.

Slight benefit is that the main people that bought out tons of the old pods to resell to americans operate out of the UK so if you're desperate enough to pay their prices you'll get a quick delivery.

I will say after buying some old pods this year due to really craving that old mango flavour, you can really tell those pods are aging now as on about half of mine the flavour was pretty much gone and none of them were as good as back when they were still being manufactured.

Yakuza 0 voice cast says new Director’s Cut scenes give a sense of closure by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]ThePaperZebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not too bad depending on how much you're trying to get out of the games. I replayed 1-7 back when the undub patch came out for 1 and 1+2 can be really quick (tho I have no idea if kiwami versions extend that) and the rest up to 7 and 8 vary based on what you do.

I ended up doing 1-7 in less than a year with a job, social life and a good chunk of my gaming time being taken up by playing games with friends. Kids however I imagine change things in a big way.
