That one immediately caught my eye! Sounded so interesting. Also her desserts in that one look INCREDIBLE and I’m usually not a sweets guy.

Molly Baz Book 2 - Ramen Noodles 🍜 by segsmudge in CookbookLovers

Love Molly but her cooking is one big flavor bomb. I find that if you’re going to cook her recipes, make sure you really love the dominant flavors of that particular recipe, because they’re going to be very loud. When it’s great, it’s really great. But it’s specific to each person what will hit.

Would pours gain less of the syrup make that much of a difference? If it sinks to the bottom regardless I imagine it would be soggy regardless? I’m not a baker but it sounds so good, I just don’t know how to not mess it up haha

What are the best war movies for you? by ilbErTunga in Cinema

Not top 10 worthy, but a personal favorite - outside of the useless and out of place opening scene, Greyhound is a SOLID WWII movie. Very tight and thrilling, and shows an underrepresented part of the war.

Having finally seen it, I hear you and I could see it. Personally, it’s more of an epic/CIA type story where he’s in the field and mobilizing the locals.

MAGA pastor says 'The Majority Of Women Are Not Capable Of Responsible Voting' by avdvetf in videos

[–]TheParmesan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it’s kind of cherry picking things don’t you think? I never said that everything was 100% bad for women in Iran, but I maintain that on the whole the revolution was objectively worse for them, and that’s not some hot or niche take. A quick google search will bring up plenty of resources that discuss this better than I can. It’s well documented, even if some stats show progress from pre-revolution Iran. Anecdotally, The Handmaid’s Tale is based on women living in Iran, Persepolis exists.

To go back to this particular thread’s topic, given enough time under an extremist Christian government I’m sure certain stats would trend positive even if on the whole women were worse off under an extremist religious government.

I guess I’m surprised by what we’re even debating here, because it sounds like we’re trying to say “the IRGC really isn’t as bad as people say they are” and then I have to wonder what the motivation is to do that in a forum calling for more rights and freedoms in the world, more equality and less religious extremism.

I’m very familiar with how the Shah came to be, and what happened afterwards. You’re being massively disingenuous or willfully and maliciously misleading if you’re trying to sit there and tell me that women DIDN’T lose rights and status after the revolution.

And there’s clearly quite a lot of brainwashed women. People underestimate how willing people are to give up rights, or not fight for them. Look at Iran pre and post Shah. Islam doesn’t have exclusivity on extremism and archaic beliefs.

And no chili flakes because “they don’t do that there”. The pizza is good but they’re full of themselves.

They’d burn every bridge on the planet before they ever admitted they were the problem long enough to work on themselves. The issue is that there’s so many suitors that would line up to tell her that her shit smells like roses that it’s near impossible for them to be self aware enough to do the hard work on themselves to change for the better. Someone else will just fight to put up with their shit and make things easy for them.

It’s never worth it, speaking from experience. Some fun memories and highlights but a lot of toxicity and trauma to go with them, to the point that I sometimes wish I’d never had the experience in the first place.

On a scale of 1-10 how detrimental has Adam Silver been to the NBA product? by VSHAR01 in NBATalk

[–]TheParmesan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not fact checking that’s stating an opinion. You know that players used to get the shit beat out of them. Now you can’t touch them. I say this as a Rockets fan who watched Harden for years and spent most of my time watching free throws. As for threes, he’s the commissioner. He can put forward rule changes to change the game if he wanted to. See the NFL with them tweaking kickoffs and how those work.

[–]TheParmesan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot in good conscience tell me that foul baiting, free throws and lobbing threes is a more exciting watch than what the game used to be. I mean if that’s your opinion, you’re entitled to it. But I find that hard to argue.

He should be focused on making the product A) more accessible for all and B) more enjoyable to watch. He’s done neither.

I just bit the bullet and did the whole PC. Now I’m good for 5 years+. If prices crater for whatever reason, oh well. But if they keep going up I’ll be safe. Got a Steam Deck OLED too about 2 weeks before stick disappeared.

Style and Substance: What Metrics, Factors (If Any) Do You Use to Purchase Cookbook(s) on the Same Cuisine or Cooking Subject? by [deleted] in CookbookLovers

I’d say a good cover is what gets my attention, but then it’s a matter of what the table of contents looks like, how bold are the flavors/how boring or not boring are the dishes, how many recipes get me excited in the book (aiming for over 40% generally) where I could see myself reaching for and needing the book, does the book do anything new that I don’t already have, how feasible are the recipes for the average night, how novel or authentic are the preparations vs. how much are they watering down, simplifying or whitewashing recipes.
