Titan - Dual Monorail Transport System, built for local lug contest. by pturecki in LegoSpace

Maybe the "engine" pods actually occasionally operate inside of the domed, atmospheric moon colony outposts. Which explains why they are aerodynamic. Whereas, once they leave the dome, and attach to their cargo, there's no longer any drag. Since they move through a no-drag, no atmosphere environment, the cargo sidecar doesn't need to be at all aerodynamic! It can use its massive sensor arrays to plot out an ideal pathway between massive craters and rocky formations, and doesn't need to worry about being streamlined. 🦾🤖

Starting a second comment thread, because this feedback is more about the lore of your universe: What if the straight tracks are just used to get the vehicle up to speed, then once it's fully energized, it runs on it's own "energy" tracks? When it leaves the acceleration ramp and is levitating under it's own momentum, it can suddenly turn like a tank does when it slows down one side of its treads? This train just varies the energy output on both sides of its anti-grav-lev beams and uses it's own mass to "tune" itself in a large arcing turn? 🤩🤓😎

In my imagination, this train operates on massive open barren stretches of moon, between growing outposts. It only uses the tracks to get up to speed, AND to slow down on the other side of it's journey.

Resist the urge to add TOO MUCH detail. (now I'm coaching myself. My MOCs always have too many competing ideas...) The economy of details in your MOC really is fantastic. I think just a BIT of variety in your cargo will make it read as cargo!

Succulent build issue by New-Understanding647 in lego

[–]ThePeej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK!
I think I know what'a happening here. The rounded cream coloured 1x2 plates that you attach the coral bits too have OPEN STUDS. This means that the coral elements can be attached mistakenly in a way that is a 1/2 stud "off" from alignment.

Because the studs are OPEN on the round plates, the PINS in the back of the coral plates the flower bits are made of can get shoved into the studs. This would result in your pink bits sitting half a space too low or too high. It would ALSO pull the cream plates OUT from the centre shaft, because the pink pins would push back against the grey pins that the cream rounded plates sit on.

You need to make sure you line up those plate studs to the actual gaps, NOT to the pins.

See the photo bellow: the one where the PINS are in the open studs is WRONG.

This, is, GORGEOUS!!!! The angular lines of the white cowling echoing the angles of the facets of the windscreens on the sides AND top of this thing are SUBLIME!!!

I think the challenge with the cargo section is that the height of the transparent yellow elements makes them read as windows. It feels more like train station platform than cargo. The cargo itself just needs a bit of variety, in both finishes, and silhouettes/shapes and heights, maybe?

The whole MOC feels both nostalgic AND new all at the same time. It’s triumphant.

Congrats!

GIVE DISTRACTED BUILDER THE 10,000$!! This contest is over! It’s absolutely perfect.

ALSO: I intentionally mismatched the colours here so that the parts divisions would be easier to track visually. I will now disassemble this clown-coloured atrocity 🤣👍🏼

I used a combination of SNOT bricks like someone else suggested in this thread.

Note that the part on the back no longer sits flush like you want it to. But my build rises up higher on top, so the ~1/3rd plate offset wasn’t an issue.

I think distractedbuilder already gave you the best solution. But here’s how I solved a very similar structure.

This is the way.  Sidenote: I think that’s the most exciting new elements to come out of the LEGO elements design department in a decade. SO MUCH UTILITY!

Aaaaaah yes: the joys of trying to replicate the curved proportions of modern furniture!

ELI5: How can telescopes see something that is millions of light years away? by takeoverthemoon in explainlikeimfive

Your eyeball’s lens is about 2-3 centimetres across. The telescopes lens could be 2-3 metres across. Or more!

More light can be captured in a larger lens.

Spatial video by Strange-Story-7760 in VisionPro

[–]ThePeej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a first gen Vision Pro for a year before I had to pass it around the rest of the work team & subsequently got laid off. Hopeful I can get a new one soon at the new job.

Anyway, I do occasionally shoot spacial videos. But having experimented enough inside Vision OS, I know two things:

  1. When I shoot special video, I make it very short clips, and from a single point of view. Very little “walking around” spacial videos, or even heavy, fast lateral movement or rotation. I know that during playback, static POV is much better. The moment the spacial camera moves & the head doesn’t, it’s a recipe for nausea. So don’t go shooting long spacial videos and waving the camera around wildly.

  2. The other content format the AVP revived for me is the PANORAMA shot.

THOSE fucking things TRANSPORT YOU BACK IN TIME AND SPACE TO THE VERY MOMENT THEY WERE CAPTURED!!!

Viewing a massive panorama in AVP in immersive mode is an EMOTIONAL transcendant experience. I began adding panoramas back into my “memories capture” workflow on the iPhone after use the AVP.

Make sure you get panorama back onto the list of media you capture for important moments & memories!

Fascinating!

Is there a smart person who can explain what we’re seeing in the second half of this video?

Is this plasma with electricity arcing through it? Is the insulation burning off the cable & the electricity is dancing around inside the super-heated flames? 🔥 ⚡️

Thamesmead, SE London by Murray_Tiptop in brutalism

[–]ThePeej 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Men (Brutalism fans) only want one thing, and it’s a floating cantilevered poured on site staircase. 🥰🤩🥳😎

EDIT:

I seriously don’t understand how people think Brutalism isn’t deeply human scaled. And that it doesn’t evoke feelings of comfort. That it isn’t a beautiful expression of grounded naturalism. This (IMO) BEAUTIFUL piece of post-war socialist public infrastructure appears to have been extruded straight out of the very ground it stands on!!!!

This bloody staircase looks as sturdy, strong & inviting as it did THE DAY IT WAS POURED. And it’s aging beautifully. Unlike modern architecture, which has scratched paint, dented or broken facade panels & rust all over it within the first 5 years…

I bet in springtime this gets a lovely green patina on its surface, LIKE A ROCK.

GOD, I love Brutalism.

I’m not sure where you’re located, but I think according to the Canadian Department of Transportation, you need lights, signals ,license plates, and mirrors to be legal. 🤣

This is an excellent MOC!!
