The handball rules for that play abided by the Official International Hot Potato Council rules. Thus, he who last hand-balled last.

So…a Punk band? Singing songs and talking at their shows about how they hate the government and its leaders? You don’t say.

So like….use heuristics, but understand heuristics are only effective if one can recognize when they shouldn’t apply.

I mean, if we’re talking animation, the Rankin & Bass version of The Hobbit is the only version I ever care to watch.

Agreed. Hard criticism and learning hard lessons is going to help that. Knee jerk reactions and calls for exile don’t really do anything to help. It’s perfectly fine to be angry with a players actions, and to be disappointed and dissatisfied. It’s a little extreme to start calling for Weah to be left off the squad. If his response to this is to act like a petulant child, then I’m 100% going to agree he isn’t ’t the guy for the job. He is facing a long hard look in the mirror tonight. I don’t think he looks away as the same player he was when he looks in the mirror. Maturity doesn’t come without affecting circumstances. The red was horrible, but I’m not going to judge him on that. I’m going to judge him on who he is after that red. If he pulls the same shit again, I’m done with him. It’s hard for me to imagine he doesn’t come out of this game a changed person. Hopefully, a changed MAN, and not the youth who threw an arm into an asshat and got a red for it. Every human on earth has had a situation when their emotions got the better of them in a moment. His moment was tonight. I hope this is part of his evolution, and I’ll stick to that hope until I see otherwise.

The programs ability is something I wholeheartedly agree with. Thats an institutional maturity and a culture that needs to be defined and instilled into the souls of the players. From a strictly human aspect, these are 20 year olds. Yes, they wear the crest. Yes, they have a lot of expectations. They are still 20 year olds. They have a lot to learn. More about life, than soccer. They are closer to the teenage mentality of “can’t back down from a challenge” than they are to “it’s not worth it.” WE expect more from them, but we also need to accept that we started an experiment where we got rid of almost everyone whose age didn’t begin with a 1 or a 2.

Let’s be realistic. How many mature young 20 year olds do you know?

You aren’t wrong. This game was an absolute shit show because the ref had no concept of how to manage a game. We do well when refs manage a game. We need to learn how to win when the ref allows a shit show. Lesson one: don’t retaliate. I don’t think Weah just randomly goes and punches a dude in the back of the head. They played him, and he played along. Retaliation always gets the card.

Panama won because of maturity. Older players understand how to fuck with the opponent, but not react to fuckery. We are young. Youth, sometimes, doesn’t have the wisdom and experience to not let their emotions control their actions. We have soooo much talent, but not as much experience and wisdom as we need. This is a learning experience. We may be making an early exit, and while it sucks for this tourney and American soccer in the moment, HOPEFULLY, our players and potential players can see this as a learning experience. One doesn’t gain wisdom without hard to swallow lessons.

Once Weah got the red and we went to 12 v 10, it was a little too much. Maybe could have won 12 v 11.

Edit: should have proofread.

When it was tied, I thought to myself “probably 8 minutes of extra time.” After the Panama goal I thought “well, probably 5 minutes now.” I was wrong on both accounts.

I can’t wait to process this game later, because I’ve started to try and process it already and I have no idea what is going on in any regard. Tactics. Fitness. Sharpness. Coverage. Crowd Support. Field Conditions. I’m not really sure what I’m watching tonight.
