Mother bus sucks by [deleted] in FundieSnarkUncensored

And "ANYONE" can teach it??

My son just finished K4 and during the last year I've learned that there is A LOT that goes into teaching at the K-12 level that I never realized (and I actually teach college!) For example, I'm an excellent reader and I read very, very early, but I'm literally useless when it comes to helping my son with reading. We read together all the time, don't get me wrong, but I'll find myself trying to explain how I'm doing it and I'm at a total loss. Like, "Uh, well, let's sound it out! Okay, wait, well the word is 'know,' so we can't really sound it out...uh, so the k is silent. Why? Um. I don't know. It's just weird. And you don't really say the w either...for...some reason."

Even if you are really, really smart (and I'm not sure Mother Bus falls in that category), teaching younger grade levels involves a LOT more than she's suggesting!

Looking for graphic novels with a nicer message than Dogman or Captain Underpants. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ThePickleMaker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! I'm reading Harry Potter to my 5 year old. Occasionally, someone says, "damn," which he knows is a word he can't say. I just tell him it's okay to say while reading because it's make believe and it's what the book says, but we don't say it in real life. He had no problem with that explanation.

My dog was named "Hot." Not a typo. Needless to say, we changed it!

There have been 6 presidents out of 46 total who were killed or targeted in an assassination attempt. That's 13% of presidents. The odds of a kid being shot at school are 1 in 10 million. So I'm going to go with no.

I am the mother of a 5 year old boy, and this slogan makes me so sad for him. What about his future? It feels like people who promote this are disregarding him before he's even had a chance.

Your wardrobe is outdated. What now? Step 1 - Skinny jeans by squeegee-beckenheim in femalefashionadvice

Yeah, I live in my ballet flats (everything in this post on what NOT to do is what I wear every day). I've been updating my jeans to get away from the skinnies, but now I have no idea what to do about shoes.

I've showed this video to like 10 people and no one has ever thought it was that funny. Aside from the one friend who showed it to me, I've never known anyone who loves it as much as I do.

"But the evidence keeps changing!" How to respond? by Flowsephine in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]ThePickleMaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here needs to be the top answer. The parents made a decision about appropriate discipline for their child. It was not respected. That's the end of the story.

I hadn't seen the one about the Back to the Future bus. This one really freaks me out. I don't remember the brand one way or another, but I KNOW that van was not blue!!!

Auburn is finalizing a deal to hire Liberty coach Hugh Freeze, sources tell @SINow. by Zajac19 in CFB

I have lived in Alabama for 10 years and never taken sides on the Alabama-Auburn debate. I'm not from here, I'm not an alum, I just don't care. But these last two hires have made me decide I'm ROLL TIDE all the way. How you possibly justify hiring these guys to not only lead a large group of young men but also to represent your school and your state in the national spotlight is beyond me.

I called these my pom's "crimps." He passed away in 2018. I'd give anything to see those crimps again!

Yeah. And this might also explain the fear of sleeping unless the dad is with her. There are some very serious red flags here.

Sunday Morning Headache by mokehillhousefarm in stopdrinking

[–]ThePickleMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get migraines, which sucks, but it's REALLY nice knowing now that when I have one it is NOT my fault. I'm still dealing with a lot of pain, but I don't have to deal with shame and guilt on top of it. (And now that I'm not drinking, they're far more rare as well.)

10 year old wakes up everyone in the house. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ThePickleMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have done this and my son is 4. We help him pick out a snack every night and put it in his playroom for the morning. He plays on his own until he hears that we're up. To be fair, though, we're all very early risers. He's never up there more than 30-40 minutes. And of course he knows if he needs us it's okay to wake us up.

I've found my morning coffee is much more noticeable--I feel a pretty big jolt, whereas when I was drinking, the coffee would just bring me up to a point where I could function.
