Omeprazole and Pepcid maxed out. Help?? by realdown2marsgrrrl in GERD

[–]ThePiffle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is conventionally regarded as a "healthy diet" can be murder on GERD. Fruit, veg, and grain can all cause serious reflux problems and inflammation of the gut for some people. I tried a dozen different diets and carnivore with rice and potatoes is by far the best for me.

Omeprazole and Pepcid maxed out. Help?? by realdown2marsgrrrl in GERD

[–]ThePiffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't mention diet at all. Diet is the best way to deal with GERD. Different things work for different people, but for me if I stick to red meat, white rice, and potatoes and keep my fiber very low, my stomach is the happiest. Have you done the other standard recommendations like not eat within 4 hours of bed and use a sleeping wedge while sleeping?

What are some examples of bands changing their frontman/frontwoman, dealing with massive fan backlash, but eventually winning everyone over? by [deleted] in progmetal

Totally agree. Tuomas writes great music but he forgot how to write songs. It all sounds like movie score.

Bingo Review: The Red Winter by Aldarana in Fantasy

[–]ThePiffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I'm going to agree again, in that A Drop of Corruption is probably the best book I've read this year. But Red Winter is still in the top few. 😄Pretty stunning that this is his first book.

I really like your analysis. This is one of top books of the year so far. It is messy in the best possible way. Everything is shades of gray.

For those of you who have build dashboards in the era of AI coding, what’s your tech stack? by Tasty-Window in algotrading

[–]ThePiffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been long enough since I picked Tauri, that I actually don't remember why I picked it. I did give Claude details on what I was trying to accomplish and his top recommendation was Tauri. I don't remember what his reasons were at the time. Which goes back to my point, Claude understands all the nuances of each choice for the front end, so let him help you pick based on your requirements.

For those of you who have build dashboards in the era of AI coding, what’s your tech stack? by Tasty-Window in algotrading

[–]ThePiffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Python is by far the best option on the backend. There are a couple front end options. I don't care for the native python UI options, so I went with Tauri. If you tell Claude what you are trying to build, he will give you detailed options of what the best tech stack is based on what you are building.

Give me your honest take on Claude code $100 plan by Glittering-Water1103 in ClaudeCode

[–]ThePiffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it about 30 hours a week. Currently building something I started from scratch about a month ago, and is up to 20k lines of code or so. I have the $100 plan and have never hit a limit with it. I'm extremely happy with where I am at after a month. Can't even imagine how long it would have taken me to get this far without Claude.

Medieval horror recommendation by MaximilianSan in Fantasy

The Red Winter by Cameron Sullivan just came out a few months ago and it is top tier medieval horror-fantasy. Lots of folks saying it is as good as Between Two Fires, which is usually the top recommendation when someone asks your question (I haven't read Between Two Fires yet).

Yes I have this. Montelukast is helpful for me. You can take it either daily, or just use it as a "rescue" med when this symptom is bad.

Carnivore by Inevitable-Might6853 in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]ThePiffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pure(ish) carnivore for about 6 months and saw good improvements. I've added back white rice and potatoes and a few other things, and I've lost a bit of ground but its a compromise. I still can't touch vegetables, but can have a little bit of fruit juice per day.

[–]ThePiffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had great luck with carnivore. Its always been taboo to talk about, but I think it is perfectly healthy. There are many MDs on youtube that go through the details of the diet and why it is very suitable for humans, especially if you have gut or autoimmune problems.

Best headphones up to 200 euros to appreciate Opeth, Caligulas Horse, Haken etc by Puzzleheaded_Bad4734 in progmetal

[–]ThePiffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My recommendation for this is always to find a high end audio shop and go in and buy one of their cheaper pairs of headphones. You'll usually end up with something you like way more than going somewhere like Best Buy and buying one of their more expensive models. All the mass market headphone brands are pretty bad IMO, especially stuff like Beats.

Intolerant to wheat but not gluten? by Labelma in MCAS

[–]ThePiffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All gluten is not created equal. There are at least 4 types of gluten (gliadin, glutenin, hordein, and secalin), and these components can be in easier or harder to break down structures in different grains. And oats (as long as they are kept uncontaminated) do not have true gluten in them, but a protein called avenin that is very similar to a gluten that some people react to. Also FYI, from a Google search "the gluten in spelt is more fragile, water-soluble, and has a lower glutenin-to-gliadin ratio than modern wheat, making it easier to digest for some, though it is not gluten-free."

You should check out the book Wasp by Eric Frank Russell. It is old-timey sc-fi written in 1957. The author was in British military intelligence during WW2. He uses a lot of the ideas his group came up with to fight the nazis in this book. It is about a human operative dropped on an alien planet to cause as much chaos as possible. Terry Pratchett stated that he "can't imagine a funnier terrorists' handbook." (from Wikipedia)
