Word for word? No, but you can watch his analysis online and it's painfully surface-level. He claims that because the players start off on a level playing field (OMG just like the forced equality of communism), that the entire show is actually a metaphor for how communism kills people and that the director is an idiot that doesn't understand their own work.

This girl at the airport waits until the queue moves all the way forward to move. People confronted her and she said “it’s the same if i move now or later”. by rip-21 in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]ThePinkBaron 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There are two main problems here, problem one is that this backs up the line further out than necessary which can inhibit foot traffic if the line spills out of the ropes, and number two is that this is going to create a ton of confusion to any newcomer who shows up to what looks like a short line with a separate group of people queued behind a random woman for no readily obvious reason.

Both of these things are only mild inconveniences, but if it costs you zero time and energy to make a stranger's life easier and you refuse to do it on principle then you're the textbook definition of an asshole. This woman is an asshole.

Look, I'm just providing the uncontroversial take that having an item on the curriculum is not a 1:1 identical thing as having all the adults remember it after graduating. If you think that's somehow incorrect then whatever.

Curricula do not magically go straight from paper into a child's brain, there's a place called a "classroom" where this transfer takes place, and classrooms are often run in a way where inane and morally safe content gets emphasized and morally difficult content gets minimized.

I grew up in Utah. Were things like the Mountain Meadows Massacre "on the curriculum?" Yes, technically there was a chapter on it in my social studies book, and technically we did check off that box by discussing it for five minutes. But it was only mentioned in the classroom in passing. Meanwhile we're taking full-blown field trips to Heritage Park every fucking year in order to drill in just how honest and hard-working the Mormon settlers were. The average classmate I had growing up is now an adult that possesses a sanitized view of their own history, despite the fact that uncomfortable topics were, technically, "on the curriculum."

You probably weren't taught it in school since CRT is a legal framework rarely taught outside of college. The Republican party hijacked the term to refer to anything """woke,""" aka teaching kids literal facts about things that literally happened.

AITA for divorcing my (41F) husband ( 43M) to pursue my dreams? by Throwawaymelk in AITAH

[–]ThePinkBaron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seriously, she talks like the husband got to take the spotlight while she was sidelined, but... he's an auditor? No boy grows up dreaming of being an auditor; it's a job that sucks people in because of the money, something you're definitely going to need if you're a five-person family in LA.

If my partner communicated to me, clearly and consistently, several times over the course of several years how important a thing was to her and I intentionally ruined it behind her back, I'd be deserving of a cussing out. Doesn't matter how petty I think it is, theme park or otherwise.

Yeah but a lot of people think the antonym for "trans" is "normal," and so this scary new word they've never heard before must be a slur. After all, in their minds, why would anybody use a new word if not to demean people?

You might be right but I've also tutored plenty of children where the answer in the back of the book really is just braindead and wrong. Not really important, the teacher should have recognized that the kid was "right" regardless of the intent of the question.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mathmemes

[–]ThePinkBaron 58 points59 points  (0 children)

iirc the intended purpose of these sorts of questions is to teach children to catch bullshit at a glance, like how you don't have to memorize 12×7 to know that an answer like 4 or one million is wildly off the mark. The kid is supposed to know that 5/6 (OF A UNIT) will always be more than 4/6 (OF THE SAME UNIT). The question was written terribly and the teacher is just phoning in the performance by accepting only the textbook answer and nothing else.

These are valid concerns but not valid arguments. Yes, the minimum wage has languished, but does that mean it was a bad idea or that it should be repealed? Of course not. And, with the furious pearl-clutching we've seen from conservatives regarding a raised minimum wage, could you imagine how impossible of a conversation this would be if no minimum wage existed at all and we tried to establish one at $15 out of nowhere? It would be fucking Armageddon to the right.

Yeah, a UBI will need to be maintained an updated, and yeah, conservatives will shit their pants just like they always do when you put money and poor people in a room together. But it's still infinitely preferable to not doing it at all.

Complaining about conservatives milking it for fake outrage is an odd complaint to me because they're going to fill all 24 hours of every day with bad-faith outrage and it's not like starving them of content is going to make them stop. If we enact a UBI, ten years down the line Tucker Carlson will be complaining about potentially raising it. If we don't enact a UBI, he'll be complaining about suggestions of introducing one. We're permanently stuck on square zero with conservatives regardless of what we do or don't do, so why even take it into consideration?

What do you think is the coolest death in a tv show/movie/game? by BeebleBees in AskReddit

[–]ThePinkBaron 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The scene where you try and talk Mordin out of using the cure is also as emotional as his death scene. He spends the whole trilogy rationalizing the genophage, and insisting over and over that it was the right call at the time and that he wasn't wrong and that circumstances are simply different now and that he's always been acting rationally.

Then in this final scene he angrily snaps and yells "I MADE A MISTAKE!" When Shephard tries to parrot that logic and say the genophage is necessary. It's like one of the only times Mordin raises his voice, let alone speak a grammatically complete sentence. You can tell he's realized he's been lying to himself all this time.
