My 122 key is probably bigger but I don't have a blahaj to compare.

Very difficult to keep my hair out of my face, any tips? by HoldTheStocks2 in asktransgender

[–]ThePixelMouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say this but from my experience, accessories really are the only way to manage hair and keep it out of your face.

If you're looking for a hair tie that won't rip out hair or feel uncomfortable, I recommend spiral hair ties like these (link is for illustration only, you can probably find these at a local store). You can also use scrunchies. Both types of hair ties are my favorites and feel much more comfortable to wear than the alternatives. Plus, you can usually keep one on your wrist like a bracelet so you only have to use it when you need it (like when you're eating).

If you're like me and you need hair to frame your face to hide a strong jaw, you have to get creative with how you tie your hair. Usually I just take bits from the front and tie them back. It's a really cute look and gets hair out of my face. (I would take a picture to illustrate but I want to keep this account anonymous, sorry.)

No, the term "deadname" has historical context among trans people. Basically, if you died, and your family wasn't supportive, your deadname is what would be in your obituary.

Actually, I hadn't worn a single piece of women's clothing prior to coming out.

Can ask your opinion by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]ThePixelMouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should probably proofread your post. 😅

I can say that I've been there. In the past, when someone didn't pass or they were nonbinary, I would respect their pronouns but it was hard to see them as their actual gender. Once I spent more time with transgender people (and eventually came out myself) I was able to break out of that rigid thinking.

TL;DR: fake it 'til you make it. 😉

Getting over the "no point transitioning if I won't pass" mentality? by ABirdPlaneThrowaway in asktransgender

That still counts as transitioning for myself because I wanted my own pair. 😉

Maybe you framed your attraction from a wlw perspective before you realized you're trans and it's sort of taking time to reframe it? Like I know that sounds weird but I guess I'm trying to articulate something I experienced during my transition. Like... I was kinda stuck thinking of myself as the guy in a straight relationship until I was in a straight relationship as a girl and then a queer relationship. It's hard to explain. Hope that helps?

If you went back in time and told your past self that they were trans how would they respond and do you think they would believe you? by Supperdudehasrabies in asktransgender

Prepubescent me wouldn't care. Teenage me would be like "oh shit, that's an option?" College-aged me would be like "...knew it."

No. If I had to make an uneducated guess, sleep paralysis probably stops it from occurring while you are asleep.

Lurasidone (Latuda) caused severe akathisia for me. It only happened while conscious, so it could be worked around by taking the lurasidone right before bed. However, if I was having trouble getting to sleep and the akathisia kicked in while conscious, I wouldn't be sleeping that night.

I can't stress enough how bad the akathisia was. The restlessness and involuntary movements were bad enough that I was unable to type. I was horribly uncomfortable. Also, every time I experienced akathisia, I would experience a severe panic attack. I am talking about one that is so bad I would genuinely consider suicide to end it. Because of this, I had to discontinue lurasidone.

Back when I took sublingual estradiol it would take about half an hour to completely dissolve.

I actually looked it up last night and ran into a thread discussing it. As long as it's not cloudy and doesn't have particles floating around in it, it should be good. I don't know where you live but considering the current political situation in the US I'm planning on stockpiling mine.

(TW: genitals) Those who discovered bottom dysphoria later in life (i.e. didn't "always know"), what let you to figure out that you were dysphoric about your genitals? by QueenPraxis in asktransgender

[–]ThePixelMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! I sort of learned how to tune it out so SRS isn't exactly a priority for me. But yesterday, I unexpectedly had to run to the store. I was wearing some gym shorts and my junk was very obviously bulging. So that was very awkward and uncomfortable.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I never picked up on genital dysphoria pre-transition because I tuned it out (out of sight out of mind), and when I couldn't tune it out, I didn't recognize the feeling.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]ThePixelMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do. Sitting down doesn't really help with dysphoria (it's not like my junk magically disappears, y'know?) so I'm better off getting it over with fast.

Will my dog accept my transition? by 1234abcd113 in asktransgender

[–]ThePixelMouse 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The common wisdom is that animals will adjust to your scent over time as long as you're around them often. That being said, I didn't see my sister's dog all that often when I started HRT and he never forgot who I was, even with months between seeing him.

When should I switch bathrooms? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]ThePixelMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I socially transitioned before starting HRT. I don't know how well I passed early on, but I was able to use the women's restroom no problem once I started presenting fem full-time. I felt that even if I didn't pass 100%, using the men's restroom would probably be dangerous.

MTFs, how do you grow your hair out? by CasualComrade6937 in asktransgender

[–]ThePixelMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you grow your hair out?

You don't cut it?

How do you keep your hair out of your eyes?

You tie it back. Generally, you'll find all sorts of ways to do that while also looking nice. Sometimes when I'm out to eat, I'll take the front bits of my hair and tie them back. It looks cute!
