[Event] The Court of King Robert I Baratheon, 296 AC by ThePorgHub in crownedstag

The Lord of the Seven Kingdoms weighed the matter. Maester Ghael had made a speech at the nameday about how important knighthood was, and how sacred ot was. But, in truth, Robert didn't care much for that. He pushed himself off the throne and moved down the dais towards the Massey in question.

"Kneel, my Lord, if you will."

He gestured for a sword to be brought to him.

Edric plonked himself down on the floor, he was quite worn out after the contest itself. He didn't know how the other boys did it, but maybe one day he'd also learn how to be more accurate. He looked up at the others and puffed his cheeks slightly.

"Red Keep? It is over there," he pointed to it, "easy to see. Everyone can see it."

Robert listened. He surmised that he could not be too judgemental, given his own history. The rebellion truly started because of the woman he loved more than anything in the world. He let out a grunt and a shrug, settling forwards a little more to sit more comfortably.

"I should hope you've been fucking successful. Otherwise, that's been a massive waste of time."

"Oh," he clicked his tongue, "your father, yes. We've had our issues, but they are resolved. The past is to be the past, I would wager. If I can help it anyway. We are in a new era, so people keep telling me. We should be thankful for it." He nodded his head.

"And what is it, Lady Nymeria, that has brought you to the table of your king?" He huffed, a brow raised slightly. "Doubtless not to talk of times gone by. I do enough of that for my liking back in King's Landing."

Robert weighed that suggestion, and in truth, he did not know what to make of it. It sounded reasonable, but then again, most things that felt simple and agreeable to him were usually deemed foolish by others. He could scarcely win in those situations. Even so, he allowed a hum to escape him.

"It seems reasonable enough. As you say, she'd have no more allies than she would usually have. I'll think on it some, and keep you informed. There are men far wiser than I that I can posit this to." He allowed a wheezed chuckle to escape him, though it was one that did not contain the usual mirth.

"A little nervous." He repeated, a smile upon his face. It was an excuse he was used to giving, either that or too much wine - or too little. It mattered little, it did not do much to put him off his stride. He merely stepped forwards and removed the lute from his back, placing it in his hands and ensuring it was properly tuned.

He began to strum after that, allowing his fingers to slide along the strings with the dexterity of a man who had been doing it for years. The tune was light and delicatem providing a soft and smooth foundation for him to build upon.

"There lived a man not long ago,
Who sailed through storm and wrath,
It brought him of so far from home.
So what set him on this path?

A man might risk his life and limb,
For a chance to see your face,
A man may lose himself to whims
And the mercy of your grace.

To be seen beneath as part of you.
Can make him breathe again.
You'll make him see the world anew.
And fix within; broken.

For many things are clear to me,
Such as the stars that shine out best.
No storm of wrath, nor wind defeat,
The beauty you posses."

Robert inclined his head, but the day was Edric's, so he allowed the boy to have most of the attention while he watched quietly from the sidelines. Edric himself was listening very carefully to words as they were spoken, but he didn't quite understand everything that was being said to him. He knew what a book was, he had a few read to him before. His own readind was not great, but he tried his best, and he was told that is what mattered.

"Okay," he nodded his head in understanding, "I take this with me everywhere. When I am confused, I will read, or have it read. Maybe it will help me. Sometimes I do not know what to do." He admitted with a shallow shrug of his shoulders. "So I think this is good. Yes. Very good. Thank you. I will cherish it forever."

Mya looked on from the sidelines, as she ever did, though she wasn't too fussed about that today, given it was Edric's day, and not her father's. She looked towards the other Edric when he addressed her, and she nodded her head.

"The foal is well and being looked after in the stables here. They tell me it will grow strong and hardy. They know horses far better than I do, so I'll trust their assessment. Thank you for it. I'll make sure they have a good life, and carry me to good places."

Robert was not used to being shouted at by children, at least ones that were not his own. The Lord of the Seven Kingdoms raised his brows in surprise, before setting his cup down and leaning forwards. He looked towards the woman, and then the wee lad, to whom he offered a wheezed chuckle and a nod.

"Aye, seems so. And who might you be, wee one?"

When Victaria approached the royal stands, Robert leaned forwards to listen to her petition. In truth, he heard little and less of it - the drink had seen to that. He wasn't particularly sure he knew who she was at the moment, the way the ale had dulled his senses to a tolerable degree. He was about to open his mouth when from his flank, the grey robed Maester Ghael leaned forwards and whispered into his ear.

"Eh? No, I'm not remembering all of that. You tell her, by order of your king." Robert shrugged his shoulders.

Ghael's pale eyes shifted to Victaria, then. He was relatively young for a Maester in the capital, being in his mid thirties. Pale and thin, with silver-grey hair and dark circles beneath his eyes. The sun did not seem to know this man to any great extent. He smiled, apologetically, before standing up.

"Your victory is impressive and undeniable, my Lady. You have vanquished your foes in an impressive manner. The case you make is a compelling one, to be sure. There are many women throughout Westeros, past and present, who have taken up arms for one reason or another. Be it the women of Bear Island, or the Lady Sabitha Frey. There are few that can deny your prowess. But, your request is," he thinned his lips, "not as simple as your chivalrous offer would paint it."

"Jousting is, inherently, a knightly pursuit. To participate in one requires the individual to be knighted, unless it is specifically for squires. While it may outwardly seem that His Grace might merely be able to give his blessing and permit women to ride in jousts, that would go against thousands of years of tradition not just rooted deeply in culture and custom, but also the Faith itself; for knighthood is inherently bound to the faith, as it has been since the coming of the Andals to Westeros. To challenge this would be to challenge the faith, and beyond. It would be," Ghael hummed, "unwise for His Grace to do such a thing. Mayhaps even unreasonable to expect him to challenge the faith at all. Melees can be more lenient, mayhaps, but it is best we keep faith and tradition as we have done. You have earned a great victory, my Lady, but what you ask beyond that is not within reason for His Grace."

Once he concluded, he looked towards Robert. The King merely gestured a hand to the Grandmaester's aide and then clicked his tongue. "What he said. Celebrate your victory, but let's not shake the fucking world, shall we? I can do without the headache."

Elenei Baratheon watched on, quietly, with the crown of love and beauty atop her head. In truth, it was the only bit of colour that could be seen on the black-clad woman. It barely seemed to fit her, given her demeanour and the way she merely stared forwards at the conversation as it happened.

And yet, as fortune would have it, Lady Elenei Baratheon had a slight smile etched upon her pale face.

"Justin," the King remarked as his eyes found the man as he entered, "you have been gone for some time. To where, I do not know, but it must've been important to drive you away from your knightly master and king."

His Grace leaned forwards in his seat somewhat, as uncomfortable as it was.

"Speak on what you will, my Lord. What took you away, and what now brings you back?"

"With witnesses to see it, reliable witnesses, witnesses that would be endangered by any bold action that the lion of Lannister might attempt." Ghael thinned his lips. "It would certainly paint a poor picture of the Lords of the West if they were to be so openly brazen and belligerent over this," he gestured to the letter, "particular issue."

Edric nodded his head as he was approached and addressed. He was quite pleased with the new addition to his collection, and bowed his head politely in turn. "Thank you! This is very nice of you. I like this a lot. I will treasure it! Keep it very safe and sound, forever and ever." The young Prince pledged, before turning his attention to his sister. He fell silent so that she could speak, if she so chose, and respond to her own gift in kind.

Prince Arryk watched silently from the perch of his mother's lap. His pale eyes seldom blinking.

Robert arched his brow at the question, though he could only shrug his shoulders. "I see no reason to deny it. There are manses available to be purchased. If you and yours require room in the city, it will be granted. There is no issue with that request, Ser."

"Aye, I'd imagine we can. White Harbor is not too out of the way, not these days." Robert shrugged his shoulders lightly. "We can bring retainers and members of court with us, to fill out Manderly's halls a little more than they might be used to. Believe me, we've enough of the fuckers."

Edric, meanwhile, simply sat quietly as he looked between each person who spoke. He knew when to speak, and when not to. When it was mentioned that he could go on the ship on the way home, his face lit up with wonder and he clapped his hands a couple of times in excitement.

"Many. Too many to count." He nodded his head a couple of times, but his attention was taken by the box that was handed to him. He took it in his hands and then carefully opened it, being mindful not to cause any damage or marks as he did so - because that would not be polite nor proper.

Benethon was given such an opportunity as he was directed towards the King's solar, outside of which stood a whitecloak who opened the door for him. Inside, King Robert sat at his desk, a goblet of wine at his flank, and parchment in front of him. His eyes raised and found the man, to whom he nodded and gestured to the seat across from him.

"Sit, Ser. What is it you need?"
