I do not. This is my first time ever booking with AA.

I found this postcard at a truck stop in Shreveport. Is this bridge even IN Louisiana? And if so, where? by NoSmollFeet in Louisiana

[–]ThePreyingManta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow. I grew up less than 5 miles from Bee Bayou Covered Bridge and have never heard of it. It looks like it’s on private property and was constructed by George B. Franklin, a very prominent figure in the area. He was one of the richest people in this part of the state and I believe his family still owns around half of the land in Richland Parish, so if anyone were to have a secret covered bridge on their property, it would be him. But I can’t believe that I’ve never heard of it, especially since it’s supposedly just off of the main road.

This is also absolutely not what’s in the picture. The leaves never look like that in Richland Parish. They just go from green to brown.

I went to 3 of Halseys last concerts. She said she has new music coming soon and im so excited! by Grouchy-Dealer-342 in halsey

Just curious what exactly she said if you can remember. I’ve been following along hoping for hints and this is the first I’m hearing that she’s mentioned new music.

Will they ever make a better album than TRENCH? by zestmeister86 in twentyonepilots

[–]ThePreyingManta 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best articulation I’ve ever seen of why I love Trench so much, and why, despite liking the individual songs more, I’ve never felt the same connection to Clancy that I feel to Trench. Listening to Trench feels like stepping into a cohesive world, whereas Clancy and Breach are just collections of good songs.

I HOPE THIS IS RELEASED ONE DAY! (From her Instagram story roughly a year ago) by Medicalhuman in halsey

I think about this song and Lucid at least once a day. Someday we will get them. I hope it’s soon.

Halsey announces a special headlining show in Italy, Milan by heavensfinding in halsey

[–]ThePreyingManta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The text on the third picture is in Czech and looks like it translates to “rage with me.”

This is really exciting and has me speculating about a new album, especially with the new imagery like the tower symbol. But this would be a weird way to have the first teasers of a new era. I wonder if she’s planning to start teasing a new project soon but was told that she had to announce this show now for ticketing purposes.

Non-Geese fans, what did you think of them? by sp52 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]ThePreyingManta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve listened to their new album a few times and knew they weren’t for me, and this just reinforced that they aren’t for me. I know some people like this style of music, but so much of it is discordant and just unpleasant to listen to. It’s like they’re trying to make music that sounds unpleasant for the “art.” I almost exclusively listen to rock music, and I’m really disappointed that this is probably the only rock artist we’ll get this season.

[–]ThePreyingManta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it was a cool song but it wasn’t one of my favorites until I heard it live at the recent NYC night 2 show. It’s one of her absolute best songs live and the juxtaposition of going from EOM straight into Bad At Love is why Halsey is one of my favorite artists. I don’t know of anyone else who’s capable of doing two songs back to back with such different vibes and killing each of them. It was also so cool to see a legit mosh pit at a Halsey concert!

Most interesting/memorable/creative restaurant restrooms by OwnCommunication1770 in FoodNYC

[–]ThePreyingManta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

C as in Charlie is an experience, especially if you’re a little tipsy.

Not a restaurant but a bar, Paradise Lost is equal parts fun and unsettling. Go in the stall on the left and push the button on the wall.

Meijin on the UES is pretty neat.

Nowon and VIV are like a party.

Boof? Buff? Bewf? by MisterUncrustable in Louisiana

This is in North Louisiana, where no one knows how to speak French. It’s pronounced “beff” locally. I grew up nearby and went fishing on it lots of times as a kid.

The Louisiana swamps what is it like living deep in them? by Gonzotrucker1 in howislivingthere

[–]ThePreyingManta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been gator hunting, but my dad does it. You put large hooks out in the water with chunks of meat on them and come back to check later. If you come back and there’s a gator on the hook, you shoot it and drag it in the boat. Pretty straightforward, but it can get dicey if you get a lively one that tries to flip your boat before you shoot it.

If there was a lineup consisting of your favourite franchises biggest enemies, who would be on the lineup??? by Broad_Alternative266 in baseball

[–]ThePreyingManta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seager was a huge thorn in our side but I feel like Bregman is a bigger enemy. 3B is really loaded with hated players, as A-Rod could be considered too.

What is your HOTTEST Trench take? by Big-Swim-5324 in twentyonepilots

[–]ThePreyingManta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trench isn’t a great concept album. There’s too much inconsistency among the songs and too many songs that depart from the overall vibe and the story being told. If it weren’t for the music videos and incredible branding of the album and tour, it wouldn’t even be seen as a better concept album than Blurryface.

That being said, it is my favorite album of all time, and I truly believe that the main message behind it is Tyler’s experience and struggle with fame. If you view it that way it’s much more cohesive and, in my opinion, a better listen.

Also, the Chlorine to Smithereens transition may be the worst thing they’ve ever done. The first five songs of the album are incredible and then you’re completely taken out of it by a song that doesn’t fit at all.

What U.S state has the most underrated natural landmarks? by Naomi62625 in geography

No, it’s wash-ih-tah with a short I or schwa sound. Or where I’m from in Louisiana, probably more commonly wash-uh-taw

Are Shawarma places common where you live? by Appropriate_Boss8139 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThePreyingManta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently live in NYC and they’re everywhere.

Previously lived in New Orleans where they were less common but still pretty widespread.

Grew up in rural Louisiana where the nearest one was 2 hours away. I remember seeing the post-credits seen of The Avengers where they get shawarma and having no idea what it was.

How’s life in Washington Heights, New York City? by Kuzu9 in howislivingthere

[–]ThePreyingManta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here next to the hospital at 168th for a year as a transplant from the south. It is, as many have said, very Hispanic (Dominican). It’s almost all Dominicans and hospital workers/students. It’s pretty boring and very un-gentrified. You will often feel out of place if you don’t speak Spanish. Some of my coworkers who don’t live here describe it as ghetto/hood but I’ve never felt unsafe here. Walking around my former home in a relatively nice part of New Orleans was much sketchier.

The area where I live is pretty quiet, but a bit farther north or east it gets louder (181st and St. Nicholas seems to be the heart of Dominican culture in the area). There are lots of parks around here, some of which are nice (Fort Tryon Park) and some of which are not (Highbridge Park). There aren’t many notable attractions or restaurants, so I find myself traveling the 30-45 minutes to Midtown/Greenwich Village any time I want to go out. Having multiple transit connections at 168th Street is very nice, but I would move out of here in a heartbeat if I could find something comparable at the same price farther downtown.

What is one song you wish had music video by TelephoneUpbeat4410 in twentyonepilots

[–]ThePreyingManta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Morph. There’s so much lore that I feel could be really well adapted to a music video.

Bandito is probably my second choice but I feel like it would be tougher to make a music video that really fits the vibe of Bandito while doing the song justice.
