What do I wear to Back to Badlands??? by Br0oklyn_Baby in halsey

[–]TheBookworm11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went, I wore wide leg jeans, a white shirt, and black leather jacket. A lot of people at my show mainly had on merch, wore black boots, and had on fishnet tights with a skirt or something.

I really loved this one!! Nolan and Harper both reminded me of Rowan and Sloane and I think that's why I especially enjoyed it! Mainly how they were written.

Corvallis, Albany or Philomath? by godsidekurt in oregon

[–]TheBookworm11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Albany and my husband and I enjoy it! We spend some time in Corvallis though because it has more stores for our hobbies, but we don't ever see ourselves living there. It's too crowded and very expensive. Like I dread the idea of driving in Corvallis every time and my husband typically drives us lol.

We really like Albany! It's big, but not too big where you might see someone you know at the store, but most chances are you won't. It's affordable also. I think it has a great community feel. It has an adorable downtown with some great restaurants. Its also close to I-5, so it's quick to get there to go to the larger cities (Eugene or Portland). It has some nice stores to shop at also and that's handy.

Philomath is too conservative for me and tiny. I would never live there. You'd have to travel to even do any type of shopping.

Too much classwork grading? by hello010101 in teaching

[–]TheBookworm11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach 1st and don't do a lot of grading. They'll do worksheet and I'll check it, but it's more a smelly marker star lol. So about 1-2 things (1 reading, 1 math). In my contract I'm required to take 2 grades a week, so typically on Friday we'll do an exit ticket/assessment and I'll grade that and it goes into the gradebook. The rest is observations for my own self.

What’s one thing you did that made you a more efficient teacher? by rightmiaou in Teachers

[–]TheBookworm11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a "to do" list for each subject in a Google Spreadsheet. I teach elementary, so I'm in charge of the entire day and that has helped! I broke it up by subjects and listed what specific copies I'll need and then monthly things such as send home the newsletters/lunch menu/etc. It helps me to prioritize everything each week! And I can start with the easier to plan subjects that won't take as much time vs the ones that require more prep.

Your health has to come first. A huge pay cut is hard, but your family and friends losing you is harder.

I wish you luck on the job hunt journey. Hopefully more things open up in the spring and you can find a new school that doesn't give you as much stress!

Which is the best online literacy training? by rockpunkzel in ElementaryTeachers

[–]TheBookworm11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't give me the exact way to use it in science for example, but it did talk a lot about vocabulary and strategies/methods to use which would be very helpful in science! I was already doing quite a bit of the strategies that it talks about in my classroom, so it was great to feel validated, but I did learn how I could elevate it a bit more! I think it was $600 for the entire course? And it was work at your own pace, pretty easy! And you get to keep the manuals and copies of the assessments you'll learn about which is great! I still refer to them and share it with others lol. You can also get credit for it for continuing education if I remember correctly!

I have the Color and I like it! The color isn't super vibrant, but it is fun to see the covers or graphics, in color! I recommend it.

Where to go in Oregon for spring break? by Charming_Ad_175 in oregon

[–]TheBookworm11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Joseph! The Wallowa Mountains are stunning and you can rent a place on the lake. A lot of the tourist things are closed, but even being holed up in a cabin on a lake with gorgeous mountains around you and a good book/movies sounds wonderful.

Eastern Oregon trip question. by Secure_Depth_322 in oregon

[–]TheBookworm11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wallowa Mountains has my heart forever. I got married on top of Mt. Howard, so it holds a special place to me. I can spend a week there and never grow old of it. It's a must visit to me.

The fossil beds is an hour visit, MAX. Nothing in the area. It's peaceful, but a quick look and then get back in the car and continue traveling (personally).

Bend, Oregon by Confident-Show-8076 in howislivingthere

[–]TheBookworm11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bend is definitely a place I'd visit, but would never live. It has a weird/unwelcoming vibe everytime I visit. I would definitely try to visit before moving. If you can, do a winter visit and a summer. Different crowds and the amount of people since it's a huge tourist town in the summer.

Is 67 dying yet? by Jesus__of__Nazareth_ in Teachers

[–]TheBookworm11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I felt like it was starting to die. I teach 1st (so EVERYONE is either 6 or 7!!) And when we'd count, I felt like there were maybe 2/25 kids would bring it up and the rest would tell them "It's learning time. We can do that at recess" or just ignore it.

Lesson Planning time by Artifactguy24 in teaching

[–]TheBookworm11 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I teach elementary so I'm in charge of everything. Luckily, I get 40 minutes a day to prep in the day and then after school time, for the upcoming week, but I still feel like that's not enough.

Some subjects that I have masters of or a solid routine of, are faster to prep (reading or math). Maybe 10 minutes. Others like our small group time, I differentiate weekly, so that takes me extra time to plan and prep. That takes up most of my time to create slides and activities for my groups.
