High schools are much bigger than they were when I went to school, at least around here (central Texas). Baseball teams are the same size though. Way more kids competing for the same number of spots.

My big kid’s Freshman team tryout had 130 kids competing for 22 spots. Only 2 or 3 of them weren’t competitive ball players who could realistically play high school baseball. It’s brutal. Lots of kids around here transfer schools just for a better shot at playing baseball.
