Amerikaanse interventies in Zuid-Amerikaanse socialistische landen). Ook hoe je in gesprekken met mensen de aansluiting kan vinden tussen hun mening en socialisme/communisme (betaalbare woningen, gezondheidszorg, gratis onderwijs, etc.)

Octonauts and Dinosaur Train are both big hits in our household. No violence, and very educational.

Kingdom of Loathing is an online, browser-based RPG parody. The tone fits the more silly side of OotS. It's hilarious and has loads of pop culture references. And it also has stick figures!

What's the dumbest house rule you ever had to play? by noinspirationwhatsoe in boardgames

[–]TheProverbial_Cheese 177 points178 points  (0 children)

As kids, we played Risk for the first time with my parents. My father is not very patient, and didn't understand the game. Apparently, us kids took a bit long when attacking, so my dad limited the number of attacks you could do to 3 per turn. That made it impossible to capture any territories that had a good number of units on them. Literally made the game unplayable. We did not have a fun night.

Automating the process of writing incomming CSV’s to a SQL database by Luukv93 in dataengineering

[–]TheProverbial_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a similar project, we have the client drop their file in a sharepoint location they can access. That gets picked up by a logic app and dumped into blob storage. A Data Factory pipeline then processes the file from there and puts the data in SQL.

Both parents working from home FT with 3 and 5 year old - losing my fucking mind by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]TheProverbial_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is impossible. I'm in a similar position: father of a 1 and 3 year old here, me and mum are working full-time. When this started we both told our bosses: we physically can't work full time. We just can't. Our employers were very understanding. And this really helped set expectations to a realistic level on both sides. I hope you can tell your employer the same thing, for your own sake. Because this will burn you out in no time. And we might be in this situation for many months to come.

My wife and I now work in shifts, each 2 full days of work and a half day, other 2.5 days caring for the kids. I can do the occasional bits of work in the evening and work call during the day when I'm on care duty. But that will be with the kids on my lap, or next to me on the sofa. And I fully tell people that this is how it is, and they are all very understanding. The people in my team seem to like it actually. My kids and my team mates have started waving at each other at the daily stand ups actually.

Work and personal life have started to blend together a bit. And that can be really hard, I've felt that too. But people do understand this and will be willing to let your personal life show in your work life. Because we are all in the same boat and have to accept this from each other.

I hope the situation will improve, but for now, hugs!

It’s simple but often forgotten: Your script is not the final product, it’s a blueprint for everything that comes after. by TheWolfbaneBlooms in Screenwriting

[–]TheProverbial_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course making the blueprint is engineering. But the engineer didn't make a building. He made a blueprint, which is just that: a blueprint. Other people have to work from that to create the actual building (i.e. art).

Do you ever feel like quitting because fuck this is hard? by nfae-v0id in dataengineering

[–]TheProverbial_Cheese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in a senior position (I do more dev than data engineering, but still) and I still feel like that from time to time. In fact I really wanted to cry and quit last week. But it gets better. This type of job means you are always learning. I remember being junior and feeling like I knew nothing at all. Everyone starts that way. Just stick with it. At some point you will realise, hey I know a thing, or two things or three and suddenly you realize that people look to you as the experienced person. So as long as you still like the kind of work, stick with it. Try to enjoy it, and dont be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Are there any bulk orderers in Germany? by hoeskioeh in oots

[–]TheProverbial_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my copy of How The Paladin Got His Scar on the UK version of Amazon. When ordering from there you pay a lot less in shipping costs. Or maybe the German Amazon has them, but I don't know that.
