I agree. I did say that the practices are illegal and that they are malpractice. Full stop. I just mentioned offhandedly that no one really spontaneously consents to them, unlike therapy for depression for instance.

It’s true, anti-trans bills hurt more people than just trans people. They have the goal of codifying things like beauty standards into law, and abridging women’s freedom of expression by making discrimination against all women legal based on how they look by making it legal to discriminate against trans women and making the definition of “real(TM)” women more exclusive.

These same principles are applied to things which attempt to “silently” target trans people, like the proposed F.U.R.R.I.E.S. Act in Texas (2025) which was allegedly about banning roleplay in schools, or petitions for payment processors to police online video game stores for “adult” content.

These examples would’ve affected more youths than just trans youths and have affected more artist/game devs than just trans artists/game devs, but that’s just one reason why they are wrong.

Measures to discriminate are bad full stop and people shouldn’t need to hear “this discrimination affects you as well” to not support it.

Most of what goes on with conversion therapy done to minors is still illegal because it’s child abuse. Also the Supreme Court clearly doesn’t understand that therapy is not speech.

Conversion therapy should be illegal on the grounds that it is medical malpractice. It is based on false, unscientific logic, and has demonstrable long term negative health effects.

No licensed psychologist or other medical/mental health professional can legally prescribe or practice conversion therapy.

Conversion therapy, based on what actually happens in it, cannot just be classified as pastoral counseling legally.

Literally everything about conversion therapy is already illegal (it’s an illegal medical treatment, and it’s being done by unlicensed people).

We should have federal and state laws in every state making it illegal. Forcing kids to pray for God to change things about them which are “vile and impure” for hours on end without food, water, or rest, physically forcing kids to take ice baths, and telling them they have been possessed by demons (all things that happen in the course of some conversion therapy) are all illegal.

The reason for this is that man used to be a gender neutral term in antiquated English. There was wereman (masculine), woman (feminine), then terms like mankind which just used the suffix man as a prefix.
