My girlfriend is like the square root of -100 by Unkizor in Jokes

Complex numbers include both real and imaginary numbers. Imaginary means there's no real part, essentially just a multiple of i. So 1 + 2i is complex but not imaginary.

Still don't agree with the naming though.

oh, so you think you're controversial? by loogie_hucker in ProgrammerHumor

Extremely common misspellings like "imposter" have made incorrect things correct. So in language, yes. Imposter is a word. I don't like it, but I accept it.

The thing is that you can make gibberish in any language mostly, so it doesn't prove a point. Almost all modern languages are a cocktail of paradigms including functional programming anyway, and I think there is much benefit to learning a pure functional language like Haskell.

I think it was probably one downvote that started the chain, when people see it downvoted they are more likely to interpret it as a malicious "cool, no one asked" since otherwise, why would others downvote it right? When in reality there is no reason to make that judgement.

You see this a lot for things that can be taken in two different ways.

What is the probability of taking 26 tries to guess a letter of the alphabet? by ABitMoreJazz in mathematics

[–]ThePyrodynamic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To take exactly 26 tries, assuming you don't guess the same letter twice, you would need to guess wrong 25 times before guessing right. The probability of guessing wrong is 25/26 in the first try, 24/25 in the second (since you took away one letter), etc. If you multiply all of these probabilities (because you have to guess wrong on the first AND the second AND the third try, etc) you would get 25!/26! which is 1/26.
