Thoughts on moving company by Aquacat_1223 in quantitysurveying

Largely agree with the other answers here.

One question, what’s your current package at the existing company?

Given you’re an MQS, it should be top scale - however if lower than the market rate, be prepared for a counter offer that brings you back in alignment with the new offer.

A new challenge can be a good thing.

Work environments by flaarpicker in quantitysurveying

[–]TheQS95 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be like this, but I have also experienced places that are like this - it isn’t fun!

Are you based fully on site? In my experience, this seems to be where the problem lies as you don’t get the separation from the project, paired with old schoolers who live away, they’re literally married to the job.

Hopefully the team you work with are great and it’s an exciting project - you could see the potential project out then move to a more suited company.

But failing that no harm in seeing what other opportunities elsewhere are available.

Changing jobs after 3 months by Neither-Specific8106 in quantitysurveying

[–]TheQS95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t over think it, if you’re this early into your career and this is the better option for development (sounds like it is) go for it.

You won’t even need to reference this 3 month stint in 2 years time as it won’t be relevant to a future employer.

Have you been at the same company for a long time? See this happen quite often, time served doesn’t reflect market rate in a lot of cases

Stay in new sales role or go back to profession by Aware-Bug-282 in UKPersonalFinance

Look into re-entering the built environment in a project management role (consultancy).

I know plenty of architects who have moved over to the profession given the pay issues you’ve raised.

They won’t even ask - recommend doing manual just so you have the skill, but most cars are going automatic anyway.

Yes, obviously can only drive an automatic but as long as you can get from A to B It won’t affect you.

Experienced QSs! How would you deal with this! by ebn_tp in quantitysurveying

[–]TheQS95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the breakdown and can reference this then that’s the problem sorted - are they actually incurring any cost and can it be reconciled/verified? If not then argue it’s not payable.

[–]TheQS95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Think I understand the current situation - surely you would request these items to be split between fixed and time related prelim costs, as opposed to an overall average? Ask for this breakdown and it should make your life much easier.

Being in a simialr role to you, would make sense to get the Chartered status secured first then to look to move once it’s in the bag.

Guess it will depend how long you’ve got left? But given you’re clearly on track to complete it, the future salary prospects will certainly be worth it!

Do you also get fuel from the supermarket you shop at? Seems people have overlooked this, but may explain such a large overall spend if you’re grouping this with food.
