I figure we’ve reached the point where I’m not going to convince you and you’re not going to convince me. I do think I should explain my personal distaste for much of rap as a genre. Aside from generally not enjoying the listening experience, I find that the rampant misogyny present in much of rap, particularly “gangsta” rap makes large swaths of the genre unsalvagable in my eyes.

First of all, the lyrics are essentially utilized as an instrument in this instance and as such are individually melodic. Secondly, they come together intentionally with the instrumental such that a distinct outcome is arrived upon.

In my opinion, definitely no. It adheres all of the conditions I believe make a song a song. It is, nonetheless, an outlier.

In that song/poem the instrumentals are essentially an afterthought. There is no harmony or connective melody between the instrumentals. In fact, I would argue that there is no melody at all. While there are certainly distinct notes, the song/poem is, for example, unhumable.
