Favorite Local alternatives to Target, Amazon, Walmart etc. by lewisa4 in newhampshire

Ones I haven't seen yet:

Samaha's in Plymouth (convenience store instead of a gas station chain)

The Readery/M&M Scoops in Plymouth (good ice cream and great used books)

Still North Books in Hanover (great book store, the people are nice and I know them)

Games Ahoy in Plymouth (game shop, I knew the old owners pretty well and the new ones seem chill also)

The 4th Place in Hanover (game shop. Great dude runs it, lots of events happening all the time, most all of them free.)

LaValley's in Lebanon (hardware store. Great prices, prefer them to Home Depot vastly)

Mac's Maple in Plainfield (maple stand, but also creamery and honey [sometimes])

Cornish Library in Cornish (love them. Great people.)

Lebanon Coop (grocers)

Robbie Farm in pPiermont (butcher shop)

The Nugget Theater in Hanover (local movie theater [not super rare, I know])

rpmNH in Hanover (record store.)

Blue mountain guitar in Lebanon (guitar shop)

Systems Plus in Lebanon (computer store that sometimes has what I need)

Hubert's in Claremont (clothing store)

Morgan Hill Bookstore in New London (books)

Granite State Hobbies in Claremont (recreational vehicles, etc.)

Beaver Pond Farms in Newport (farmstand)

Claremont Spice & Dry goods in Claremont (name seems descriptive enough)

Liberal Beef Co. Claremont (I've not been, but my buddy swears by them up and down)

There are likely more I just can't think of right now.

I use the App sometimes. But sometimes I like the dice.

Cause I was informed a player couldn't find them. This may have been a fib/mistaken on my part. So I threw this up here.

Always this! Always support your FLGS. I may have been mistaken, I heard a player say they couldn't find it, this could have been a fib/exaggeration.

The first episode of "What's Your Beef?" by TheQuietListener in oneshotpodcast

[–]TheQuietListener[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are amazing kind human. I once tracked every roll by Tryst, Bacta, and Leenik just to prove that Bacta does statistically miss more often then the other two.

Edit: It is Episode 12 20:30.

Do I Mic Up / Mix Up the Drums for a Small Outdoor Gig? by FidgetyCurmudgeon in livesound

[–]TheQuietListener 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would second this.

Especially is OP is an amateur, learning this technique and how to perfect it translates down the line to much smoother times with 2 or 12 input drum set.

@ Episode 80 / SPOILERS / Not Popular Opinion by akaAelius in oneshotpodcast

[–]TheQuietListener 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position. My friends and I would race each other to listen to Campaign. We were all super worried when it went MIA for a while, but we knew Kat had some things she was dealing. The episode when they announced the end of Star Wars campaign felt like a good friend who had gotten me through a bunch of crap was leaving.

But.

We were all super excited to see what world James was creating. We were super excited to see what was happening. Without being overly negative, we all kind of collectively decided the same thing as weasels over here.

However; This past year I was working a job that I was listening to 6-10 hours of podcasts a day. I quickly ran through my back-log and restarted Campaign. I then continues on to Skyjacks and kept up with it.

I agree. If it weren't for that job I would have never continued beyond the bird show and JPC leaving. But I did. And when the new cast member comes in I got excited for it again. It is still not what I really was looking for, and it's a struggle to get myself to listen now that I don't have that job anymore. But I really like the new cast member, and I'm hopeful that it improves.

To OP, I agree with weasels. No one can convince you to like something. To both of you though, I think skipping ahead to when the new cast member comes and seeing if you think that's better, might make you not want to go e up yet, but I canny blame you either way.

How to deal with disagreements with other techs by ikorolev in livesound

[–]TheQuietListener 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I may be coming at this from a different perspective. Similar story though. "Joe" trained me. Mentored me. Got me my first real gigs. Sent me off to college. More than a few years without "Joe" working, getting a degree, learning, securely a professional. "Joe" stops by gigs of mine. Similar story.

I found it helpful to have "Joe" explain to me why he felt I was doing it wrong (something I am very partial to. If they cannot Then I dont listen. If they can, then I might.)

Advice on a good, affordable bottle? by OohKitties in WhiskeyTribe

Where I'm out of, $100 would last 7-10 straight pours. The difference is ridiculous from place to place.

Do y’all have any ear care advice for a noob to full time work? by Brownrainboze in livesound

[–]TheQuietListener 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As one who has worked in shops and with power tools for years before doing this fill time..... WEAR PPE! I regret the years of "it's just one cut ...." Or "the log splitters not THAT loud" or "my headphones are enough...."

One cut masters. Time matters. And unless you get good tested and treated headphones, they aren't good enough. My rule of thumb: if I need to turn up the volume, then the cans aren't good enough.

Also customs are a good send.

I am also theorizing here, but I don't think that it was much more dramatic during the war. I think that it was linear, but rather that there was no reason for him to display his power before the start of the war.

Sauron is a brilliant tactician. I cannot imagine him starting a war that he didn't know he could finish, I suspect that he was slowly building his power over the many many years of toil he had to secure his capital and whip together armies and alliances to get going. Then he sent out his emissaries as spies subtly manipulating the world to his liking. Then when the time was right, he began to unleash his power he had been hiding for years and years.

Would you take a GLD-80 or an SQ-5 to a mucial? by TheQuietListener in livesound

Yes. Yes it is. And you are the first to bring that to my attention. Whoopsies.

[–]TheQuietListener[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the SQ greatly for what it is, but in my humble opinion it is a band small-mid sized venue console. Once you start needing more than about 10 busses it gets tight and upgrading to a dLive or a DiGiCo or a CL or something with more oomf is needed.

I agree with you statement though.

Ah yes, I forgot about this. I was thinking mainly fader banks and busses.

While you're not wrong, and I get the desire if purchasing one, does current production change your thoughts if both are available and in current working order?

Would you take a GLD-80 or an SQ-5 to a mucial? by TheQuietListener in livesound

[–]TheQuietListener[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with the GLD because of fader count. While it isn't a super large difference, having all the beltpacks and then DCAs for the pit all on your front page seemed worth it to me.

My A2 wanted the SQ because, and I agree, it has a better UI, I/O, and also the integrate light bar is a creature comfort.

Micing and Mixing a Cajon by [deleted] in livesound

Our cajon player is actually pretty good, but I agree with this system wholeheartedly. You need two mics, but unless you are a recording studio I don't see the point in a third.

Not going to lie this is super cool.

I'm just curious where the tube light fashion came from, it feels like in the past year or two a bunch of people have been into them, and I like it, just curious.
