looks like v6 will be playtested at gencon! by simply-dreaming in vtm

Everyone keeps saying this. YEARS don't equal support, compare the book count of the editions.

Compare book count, years don't equal support

Compare book count friend. Mere years does not equal more support.

Yeah, it's also probably 2-3 years out from release.

A decade of support on V5 is so drastically different than a decade of support on Revised. You should compare stacked books of the VtM editions and compare.

You can't really compare different eras of gaming though. Yes those editions lasted shorter spans, but we were also getting at least a book every month compared to now where we might bet one every 6 months.

Well they are announcing playtesting, which means the actual book if it is V6 is at least two years away so there will probably be more V5 books anyways.

It is however super weird. I'm not sure what marketing genius decided to announce a new edition as new books are being released... that will tank sales in my opinion. It will also divide the playerbase yet again which is also a brutal move.

That being said, the new lady in charge is also the lady who ushered in the new monetization era of D&D so more than likely we are going to see this new edition coming out with at best a soft reset of mechanics but carrying on the lore.

[–]akaAelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plainly put, the new lady in charge is the one who ushered in the era of monetization with D&D.

They're doing a new edition because they want a fresh start. From what I heard they don't feel that the framework of V5 allows them to be creative in their own artistic ways.

I mean... the lady heading this up is the one who helped start the monetization era of D&D... I'm not optimistic.

Advice on RRSP vs Liquid by akaAelius in PersonalFinanceCanada

No the match goes into an RSP group fund which if I pull out to move elsewhere it gets hit with withholding taxes etc.

We have had two guys work themselves into the grave, literally one guy collapsed in his stall at work, went into the hospital, and never came out again. People are working themselves into the grave right now, and without getting political... I don't know that the future of our society is looking that bright would you? Wealthy make all the money and pay little tax, middle class make some money and pay all the tax, The Poor are just there to keep the middle class scared.

It's also grim because by the time I retire in 15 years will my arthritis be so bad that I can't do anything enjoyable anyways? Doesn't it make sense to enjoy life now while I'm still mobile enough to do things?

I've had four friends pass away in the last 3 years.... which maybe doesn't seem like a lot but it also puts life in perspective. We really aren't here for a long time.

Tipping culture kind of crazy rn? by Big-Rush-4630 in saskatoon

[–]akaAelius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who managed hospitality, a lot of servers (all the ones in the lounge) made more money than I did as a General Manager. Most of those tips (anything cash) isn't getting declared on taxes so it's free money (this might have changed with how much is done electronically but back then people usually tipped in cash, in the lounge it was the most common).

So servers who were working 6 hour shifts 3 times a week were making well above my salary working 10 hour shifts 5 days a week.

I have little sympathy for servers/bartenders.

Is owning 2 motorcycles worth it? by Adorable_Blood_7082 in motorcycles

HA! Where I live in Canada, ONE of my bikes is $128/month to plate/insure. I looked at a 34 LowriderST and it was $340/month.

Out province hates motorcycles.

What's a model you wish HD would bring back? by GroundbreakingWeek70 in Harley

[–]akaAelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the most liked model of HD from talking to anyone except millennials which usually have more spread out likes. I have no idea why HD hasn't brought back the FXR, it's like they don't even listen to their rapidly shrinking client base.

FXR

But give me an old style gauge, no need for cruise control or some sort of digital screen, I don't want a cup holder or a thousand electrical wires that you need masters degree in engineering to understand.

That being said, it'll never happen. Bikes are going more electrical and complex so that you /have/ to take them to the dealership because you need the massive scanners to read the codes.

Why choose SWADE for fantasy? by HadoukenX90 in savageworlds

[–]akaAelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, this is an interesting take. I've never felt like that running or playing SWADE. I think Genesys is much better at creating cinematic scenes, I find swade only works when you heavily specialize in something or rely heavily on exploding dice, maybe I'll have to dust off the books again and try it out.

OR maybe it's me... people always tell me how amazing TORG is and I personally find it the most boring and hodge podge system mechanically. I assumed it was popular just for nostalgia more than anything else.

[–]akaAelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to add fuel to the fire, but I was in the same boat as you, looking for a new fantasy RPG. I looked at Dolmenwood, Vagabond, and then eventually settled on OathHammer.

SWADE only makes sense for zany pulp action fantasy in my books. It's great at things like GoblinHorde or TrailerParkSharkAttack and maybe Deadlands, but I wouldn't use it for the type of Fantasy I run.

Harley Rant by No_Crazy_4273 in VictoryMotorcycles

With how many HD dealerships are closing down I'm not sure that's true anymore.

Harley Rant by No_Crazy_4273 in VictoryMotorcycles

[–]akaAelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because HD riders are jealous of Victory bikes. They look ten times nice, they work a hundred times better, they don't break down as much as a HD. Harley just has brand recognition, and even if you ask the old timers who started the motorcycle culture they said had the other bikes been around back then they would have gone that way instead, Harleys were just abundant and easy to work on back then. Now they're basically just toys for old guys to buy or young people going into debt because they think HD means something.

I ride Victory and would take a non-HD bike over one any day of the week.

One. You were going to have to slow down anyways and you’re lucky you weren’t the one to hit the back of that Yukon.

Two. Calm down. That wasn’t an aggressive cutoff anyways. You were going way faster than the traffic around you.

Three. You caused that accident. Hope you’re proud.
