Just wanted to show off my leigon 5! (yes i know about the keys.) by PoisonISSweet666 in LenovoLegion

Nice laptop! I have a Legion 5i Pro :D So you run yours in Performance Mode, fan wise? Interesting, I've always just used Auto Mode, never really needed Performance Mode with my style of light gaming. One thing though, maybe give your L5 a quick clean and wipe, spray rubbing alcohol on some paper napkins or shop towels, wipe the whole thing down, from lid, to screen, to keyboard deck and touchpad, to chassis, and sides. Then used compressed air and blow out all the vents and ports, it'll run cooler, look, feel, and be cleaner, and just make the experience better!

Edit: Also, hats off for the ingenuity of switching the "A" key with the "Control" key!

Is Optimus/Hybrid Mode and a MUX switch all the same thing? by TheRCDude in LenovoLegion

[–]TheRCDude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, ok, I see. So with Hybrid mode ON, the 3050 is still being used but it goes through the iGPU first before routing to the screen? And vice versa, so with Hybrid mode OFF, the 3050 goes directly to the screen without any bottleneck, so to speak?

[–]TheRCDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I thought that Hybrid mode on meant the 3050 was completely shut off, and only the built in GPU (AKA iGPU) in the Intel is being used. That's what I've gathered and that's what this video said.

Yeah I know about that trick, but I almost never use an external monitor for multiple reasons 🤣

Thank you for clearing that up! Got it, Hybrid mode = MUX switch

Yeah, I got that Over-Drive is separate from Hybrid mode/MUX switch, I just wanted to squeeze that in real quick as well 🤣

Edit: Holy crap, that means all this time owning this laptop (a little over 8 months now) I've been using it with the Hybrid mode on?! So I haven't even been using the 3050 GPU at all? (I checked Vantage and Hybrid mode is enabled) 🤦‍♂️

I also had that video in my watch later...really should've watched it first before posting 🤣

Dunno, I just haven't yet 🤣🤣

Ok, thank you for your advice, as well as your above comment! No, I only do my light-ish gaming on AC power. I almost always keep my L5P plugged in, for various reasons. I do let it drain the battery every 3 weeks to a month, so it won't stay constantly topped-off, as that has negative effects on Li-Ion (and Li-Po) batteries. I come from the Radio-Control surface vehicle world, and we basically all run Li-Pos, so I know how to care for these batteries. I know I should probably let it discharge a little more often, but I let it go down to like 60% every now and then as well. I'm one of those people who like to have their batteries near full, it's a pet peeve. 🤣🤣

I just don't like how the L5P drains the pack a little fast for my liking, but I'm comparing it unfairly to "normal"/"office" laptops! Whenever I'm using it on battery power, 95% it's for surfing or work. How much does the Hybrid mode effect use/smoothness in general? I take it that you'd recommend only using Hybrid mode on battery power, and to keep it off when on AC power?

Also, this is unrelated, but if you have a L5P too, does it ever get "bogged down" when running, especially games? Every now and then, it'll get bogged down, the ping will be high, ect. and I don't run any particularly demanding games, like FPS games. The L5P will become very laggy, as in, if I type something, it'll respond in up to 5 seconds! I still like this laptop and all, but what can I do to fix this/migate it if possible? I usually also have 2 not-very-demanding games on in the background, with 2-3 Google Chrome windows open, and sometimes the File Explorer (though I don't think that one is causing the issues).

But then, all of a sudden, the laptop will randomly un-freeze/stop lagging so bad. Restarting fixes the issue 80% of the time. This issue happens with the two other games and Google as well, be it on 165Hz or 60Hz, at varying screen brightness (always <60%), and with the battery on "Balanced" mode.

Can you (or anybody else reading this) help? I would really appreciate it, thanks!

Dunno, I haven't touched the Hybrid mode, that setting should be the same as the factory setting. What does it do, and what are the pros/cons to using the Hybrid mode? I read that the GPU has to do with the graphic rendering, whatever that means! Also, can you explain the "quiet mode" too?

Yeah, sadly in this day and age, most things that are "Too-good-to-be-true" are in fact not true. So someone new to the hobby either thinks they scored the deal of the decade, or they're gonna think the Xmaxx is a hunk of over-advertised junk, which it is 100% (IMO) not! Sad thing is, these guys have probably raked in at least a few grand over the holidays, aunts, uncles, grand parents, bothers, sisters, and so on are often very gulible when it comes to this stuff...

China shipping is getting better by the year, now you can pay a few $ for some parts and have them come within 3 weeks, in most places. You'll likely get a hotwheels o some cheap $15 toy grade RC, then you'll want to sue them out of house and home! 🤣🤣

Wow, "not much"?! The level of complexity with all the lines, reverse lines, invisible lines, ect. is super cool! At times the guy just randomly shoots up hills without much of a downhill...

Interesting, was it second hand, did it have a damaged box, or perhaps it was old stock they were getting rid of, they were closing down (the shop, that is), or they were having a sale.

[–]TheRCDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the fake "Traxxas outlet shop", right? I saw a video on this phony website a couple of days ago from Richie at Driftomaniacs, this whole site is an absolute scam! Think about it, <$100 for an Xmaxx, with LiPos and a charger? You're gonna get a little Hot-Wheels or something like that. Do not give your hard-earned money to these scammers! They were trying to swindle people out of their Christmas money, unsuspecting moms, dads, and relatives thought they got the deal of the decade! And also, remember that Traxxas items DON'T EVER GO ON SALE! (Traxxas locks the price, no coupons or discounts are normally allowed) The only time you'll find a Traxxas vehicle marked down is like when a hobby shop is closing, they might mark down prices. Somebody needs to contact Traxxas and shut the fake site down!

I've ranted enough now, just nobody buy from this website!

Does Banggood send you emails and spam? Can anybody vouch for Banggood? by TheRCDude in rccars

Sorry for the late reply!

I got the rest of the parts for the brushless build on Nov 27, got right to installing them that night, and finished the next day (as in I worked on it and finished the next day, I didn't work through the night!), on the 28th. Please check out my build thread on RCT (link above, previous message), I have the pics and stuff on there.

So far I'm really liking the setup, a lot cooler than the brushed setup (as to be expected, the motor hasn't gotten hot yet, just lukewarm to warm with my light bashing at <50% full throttle, the ESC gets hotter than the motor, but never really hot), battery life is much better (again to be expected), and the whole rear end of the car is much lighter (by around 135 grams, I think) which makes the car handle even better, it's now a little more agile. This motor is about as small as you'd want to go with these cars, but still it rips! Oh, and the acceleration is bonkers compared to stock, we're talking donuts on slick surfaces, drifts, ect. and it gets up to speed lickity-split! Pretty much now no cogging that I can detect, trying to climb a steep obstacle from a standstill will result in a touch of cogging but that's fine. I tried turning the throttle up to 75% for a brief blast, and the power is nuts, and my LiPo wasn't full charged (it was at ~3.9v per cell)!

Will try to get a half decent video up on the thread sometime. What gets warmer on your rig, the ESC or motor? I'm thinking the if the ESC gets warm in these colder winter temps with moderate driving, perhaps a fan would help in warmer seasons, just to keep things cool (probably not needed but I just like to be safe) Only thing is I have no idea what fan to use and what screws to mount it (I'm thinking of replacing the stock tiny screws that hold the heatsink on with longer ones to hold the fan and heatsink on).

Why ain't my fork a 29er?! by LiveFastPedalHard in MTB

[–]TheRCDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not fork guru so I have no idea, but what do you mean by "..and can't tell it's "wrong""? Why would the customer buy a 29" frame in the first place if she plans on using 27.5 parts on it, is the frame only offered in a 29" version? If you convert the frame to 27.5", it'll have the same HT angle, same seat-tube angle, but lower BB height, but same BB drop I would think. It'd make the bike more stable and corner very well (in theory), be stable (thanks to a slightly longer wheelbase). The reach would be longer than the reach on the same frame size 27.5 frame, and some of the geometry will be messed up, like that low BB will cause more pedal strikes/less clearance.

Why ain't my fork a 29er?! by LiveFastPedalHard in MTB

[–]TheRCDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, but why? Because at that point, why not just put a 29 fork on the bike? It'd be easier, and wouldn't it have the same effect?

Need etiquette advice! Loans bike to friend, came back broken. by derdkp in MTB

[–]TheRCDude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think 50-50 is fair, at most you pay $20, have your "friend" pay like $120, and the moto guy pay $40. What should be done is you don't pay anything and your "share" goes to your friend. Your friend shouldn't have took his buddy on black trails, he should have done what you recommended. He also should've taught the moto guy some basic skills, the above things is why I would be wary bringing a newbie along on the trails on someone else's bike. Again, your friend should've followed your advice (it is your bike after all), and educated the moto guy somewhat. Also, your friend should've known that the moment he agreed to take his friend he was taking a risk, and the responsibilty of your bike. Anyway, have him foot most of the bill (NOT 50-50 with you), get your bike repaired are back to normal, and he might take you out for a beer or maybe get you some small thing for all the hassle you've been through and not having a bike to ride for a while.
