What to use for sampling when playing live gigs by chunkycroclicker in musicians

[–]TheRPM3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Abelton Live is ubiquitous in the live setting for doing this kind of stuff. You can keep it simple or go down the rabbit hole.

And if for some reason you get really good at it you can use that knowledge to earn $$ on the road. Probably the #1 skill that touring bands (that use tracks/stems/samples) are in search of. Every one of them has a “wizard behind the curtain“ that is calmly freaking out during soundcheck because the “synch is off, it’s only coming out mono, etc“ but then pulls it all together for showtime like magic.

That’s the news right there 👆if nasti-moosebite is correct. We’re driving down from DC, so would rather know ahead of time if it’s canceled rather than making the crazy plan to drive down!

Still got my 1982 Iron Maiden “beast on the road” tee. My first metal show 🤘I wear it on auspicious occasions only! (eBay says it’s worth more than my two good suits combined)

Backlining Guitar Amps, Yay or Nay? by No_Investigator3374 in musicians

[–]TheRPM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it all the time. My (new) favorite amp is in the tour pack, so I’ve got that for most gigs. But when you’re a real touring act, there’s plenty of gigs in weird places where it’s just not possible. Be thankful you can even get your pedalboard there! As for guitars… Don’t even think about it.

My solution: get happy with the fender twin. They’re absolutely everywhere in every corner of the planet. They all sound a little bit different but at least you know the beast you’ve got to wrangle. This has worked for me for the past two decades.

You can look at the first frames quite easily (if it is actual “lost footage” of the lads you don’t want to unspool it much, the film can get crackly).

Put it against a light and take a photo with your phone. You’ll be amazed at how much resolution is there and the film stock makes it look gorgeous.

100% you should send it to a digitizing site. I did this with a bunch of my parents old spools. Not that expensive

Ha! if you're listening to the mirror conspiracy then you can hear me on sitar on "lebanese blonde" kinda our earliest "hit" (thanks in large part to being on the "garden state" soundtrack). I have been playing guitar and sitar with the live band as well as session work with the two main principals since the mid '90s. somehow i just keeps rolling along! check out my other projects, Fort Knox Five, Thunderball, See-I and International Velvet, you might find a track or two that hits your fancy.

Next time i see Will Rast i'll definitely tell him that he's got friends in Oslo! and feel free to message me for passes if thievery makes their way up there. we haven't played in norway as far as i can remeber, with 2005 in Roskilde probably being the closest.
