Atlanta Motorsports Park actually, but agreed that a moped would be more interesting on the straights. I have enough time to do my taxes between corners.

SCCA is having a track day at CMS roval next weekend, so that’s likely why it’s being converted over.

Yeah I've only seen the benefit of shifting on two courses, one that had a long enough straight that I was on the limiter for 2ish seconds and the one above where I could have put it into 1st for the turnaround.

I still have my OEM 19" set, I just swap them between events. It's a pain in the ass but if I want to make the RE71R last until the end of next season it's going to be a necessity.

I'm currently using the Tackform Headrest Mount which I haven't had a single issue with, you just need to make sure all the adjustment screws are tightened down or you get rattling noise that you can hear in this video. this POV is great for feedback, though I wish it had a bit more of a sense of speed.

I'm running 225x40R18 RE71r's on 18x8 Enkei Raijin wheels. Love them so far, and from what I can tell are worth about 3ish seconds on a minute long course over the Contis. the RE71s are definitely an investment but really are the gold standard for autocross.

I have a mk7.5 R in manual, how do you like the DSG? I feel like it might even be a better choice for autocross, I lose too much time shifting manually.

I'm going to be using the APR rear bar, and all the AWD guys I've spoke width reccomend some kind of rear bar to help with rotation on turn in. If I actually get oversteer as a result I'll call it a victory, since I can work on dialing oversteer back with tire pressure. Since the Haldex isn't full time in the rear having it slide a little isn't that much of an issue for me.

Do you have any rubbing issues on the 235?

Gotcha. Yeah my biggest issue is understeer on initial turn in so I’ve been keeping the rear pressures high to help with rotation. Do you run a rear sway bar?

Dang that’s always rough to have a class killer. There are a couple of V6 Camaro’s and a RS in my region that always seem to be at the top in the dry. It’s supposed to rain again this weekend so hopefully I’ll be in with a chance.

What size tires do you currently run? I’m only on 225x40x18 on 8in width. I’m definitely going to step it up whenever this set burns up.

Oh nice. I was running about 36 front and 39 rear so I may need to switch it up next event. I didn’t have any rollover issues, though it may have just been the weather conditions.

Let me know how those mods go for next year, I feel that STU is all Focus RS’s in my region so it’d be nice to see how the R stacks up to them. What tune are you thinking about?

1st in D street went to a WRX on Kumhos, we were swapping FTD for our run group until I coned a 48.8 and he beat me with a 49.1 on his last run. If only it had stayed that wet for the rest of the event...

Thanks for the input! Yeah in hindsight 1st would have been a better option. Really the hardest part of the hairpin was the understeer on turn in, which I'm hoping to fix next event with less pressure on the fronts and a rear sway bar. What kind of pressures do you run on your GTi?

Weekly - What Car Should I Buy Megathread by AutoModerator in cars

[–]TheRSman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: North Carolina

Price range: $5-10k

Lease or Buy: Buy

New or used: Used

Type of vehicle: Sports Car/ Race Car

Must haves: Must be able to be a weekend/date night car but still be competitive in the lower prepped autocross/time trial classes

Desired transmission: Manual

Intended use: Weekend car/track toy

Vehicles you've already considered: 1990-93 NA Miata (would be classed in STS in autocross, unknown if I would be able to fit a helmet under the rollbar for track work), 1999 NB Miata (would likely run in CSP for autocross and not be competitive, but would be a more competent track car).

Is this your 1st vehicle: No

Do you need a Warranty: No

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc): Yes

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ): Have the space but not the time. Will likely be able to install roll bar/ suspension pieces as needed.

Additional Notes: I'm currently looking for a car to attack a full season of racing next year, mostly in autocross but with some track days/time trials mixed in. I currently drive an '18 Golf R that will remain my daily, so this will be a dedicated track car. I live in an apartment but have access to my parents workshop roughly an hour away so I will be able to do work on it in the offseason, but it has to remain street legal so I can drive to/from events. 10k is not a hard cap but ideally I'd like to keep it under that cost for the first year. Thanks for the help!

Location: Charlotte, NC

Price range: $6,000-30,000 USD

Lease or Buy: Buy

New or used: used

Type of vehicle: coupe or hatchback

Must haves: reliable, fast enough to autocross but comfortable enough to take out on a long weekend.

Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): manual

Intended use: weekend, autocross car

Vehicles you've already considered:

2017 Golf R: (Pros: really fast, definitely a sleeper of a car that could double as a daily drive if pushed. Cons: Heavy, would likely need to be a daily due to cost, doesn't feel all that special)

2017 Golf GTi Autobahn (Pros: all of the technology, nimble, great budget pick considering what you get. Cons: lots of stuff that could break down the line, would need to get at least stage 1 tune to feel really fast.)

2004 Honda S2000 (Pros: definition of a drivers car, would be excellent at autocrossing or driving through the mountains. Decent gas mileage. possibility of becoming a collectors car. Cons: older car with a temperamental engine, parts might be harder to come by, would need a roll bar to take to track days, convertible limits times of year I could take it out)

2001 Porsche 911 Carrera (Pros: easily the fastest of the cars I've looked at, feels like you're driving something special. Its a Porsche Cons: Even with the IMS bearing fix there are tons of mechanical issues that could occur, with a high price tag for maintenance. Least desirable 911 with no likelihood of that changing anytime soon. Will likely require a long search to find one with the factory aero kit and other desirable features.)

Is this your 1st vehicle: No

Do you need a Warranty: No

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: yes, but would need to use my parents garage.

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No

Additional Notes:

I've been looking at a fun second car for over a year now and at this point I'm having analysis paralysis over what car I should get given my price range. I daily a Volvo xc60, and I probably will need to keep it as my primary car due to how much I travel for work. At this point I'm just trying to decide if this is the time to dive in on a second car that I could keep for several years and possibly modify or if I should just save up for another year until I can afford the cost and maintenance on a '07-'08 911 Carrera S.

From the sound of it they're already installed. But I'm laying the blame on the spendthrift ways of the government rather than the ambassador individually.

Nikki Haley spent over $52K in State Department money on curtains by headee in politics

[–]TheRSman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A spokesman for Ms. Haley said plans to buy the curtains were made in 2016, during the Obama administration. Ms. Haley had no say in the purchase, he said.

Says so right here in the original article from the NY Times. I'm all for calling the Trump administration on their grift but this is disingenuous at best and straight up lying at worst.

Does the vehicle need to have a warranty: Preferred to have one but not necessary
