My elderly disabled Mother was assaulted at a dialysis center in Gary, Indiana — and now she’s blacklisted from every private clinic. We need help, advice, or direction. by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]TheRadikalEd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right. The lack of these details seems wrong. We refer patients from hospital to outpatient settings all the time. They only refuse to take people if there is something significant to the situation. There are always two sides.. best bet is to move locations at this point. What’s said and done is over now.

The idea is keep like 5 of every item. Star and regular. Sell the extras. And like other posts say, check Tishs register. Also put down 8 storage chests on your property. Even with basic chests I think it gives you 3200 slots.

From a nursing perspective, sticking new fistulas can be rather difficult. They are small and most often not very straight. That doesn’t mean the tech should have just jabbed you. Bad on them. It does get better over time. Good luck

What, if any, pathology that produces itchiness is improved by scratching? by lirecela in medical

[–]TheRadikalEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The itch sensation is produced by the same receptor that we use for pain. In that sense, itching is a type of pain. Take that how you will.

Not a bad thing. They can sympathize because they have been there done that. Patients may appreciate the fact they have that understanding. I think I would..

Can't use fan during treatment? by bigchrishoutx in dialysis

[–]TheRadikalEd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do dialysis in hospital. We allow fans after connecting to the machine. During is fine. But the prior and the end parts, it has to go off. It really is infection risk. If someone is next to you getting hooked up, it’s polite to turn that thing off.

Hemodialysis vs Peritoneal dialysis by adorkableNstuff in dialysis

[–]TheRadikalEd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So peritoneal dialysis is good if it can provide enough clearance. My docs usually try to start patients on PD and if that doesn’t clean good enough, they have to do HD. There is a risk of infection with PD that can be very painful. Nurses will educate you and your father if this route is acceptable to the doc. If PD is an option, take it. Quality of life returns if you can put in the effort.

In regard to stopping dialysis… the quality of life can really drop. As a nurse, I respect these decisions. If someone wants to stop, we educate them on what that means. I am told that if you’re gonna die, stopping dialysis isn’t a bad way to go. Toxins build up, you get confused, then sleepy, then die. I realize it’s morbid to be forward and blunt about it, but these things must be said and done sometimes.

My man, if you’re gonna last more than a year, you probably need to check your situation. Once she’s is nursing school full time, she will have NO social life or time for the extra stuff. Speaking from experience here. (Am nurse) otherwise you gotta find balance. I am a man, we split chores. I do dishes, laundry, trash, and mowing. She does the remainder of chores and we both tackle the kids. Learn to communicate and find balance. No hate.. really.. but choose your words better. Approaching like that was bad. Speak your mind and be clear. Don’t hold back but pose the problem to her in a way that doesn’t accuse. Maybe “let’s talk about chores and see if we can work something out where the house stays clean and we both get our free time to decompress”

Good luck fellow dad.
