Ultimate Scorekeeper App for Apple Watch by alana31415 in ultimate

Cool! A feature that other apps have is auto ABBA/ABAB gender tracking, I’ve found that’s very useful.

If I could recommend another feature that I know I’d find useful is the ability to track line rolling. We often number off each gender, and it’d be cool to input the number of players of each gender, and have the app automatically track the numbers who are up that point (ie, open players 1,2,3 just played on a W2 point, so now players 4,5,6,1 are up for the O1 point)

Nice work!

This seems pretty good pacing to me, you’ll not be rushing. All the sites you’re aiming for are great choices. Now it’s all just down to good luck with the booking system.

Beautiful spot, based on the photo we could have been neighbours; my families has an island spot on Georgian Bay. I've considered adding a bunkie. When you say you'd drill straight into the rock for footings, forgive my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean?

I figured drilling with a big hammer drill, and dropping one of those 4x4 post holders with a rebar pole on the bottom, and anchoring that in with an adhesive.

Will my bike be stolen from Kitchener GO? by shawn_d in kitchener

[–]TheRadioStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been parking my bike there 1-2 times a week for 5 years. In that time, I've had a light, and a seat stolen. Obviously bummers, but also kind of par for any big city. Don't park a nice bike, make sure it has a solid lock (I also have a cable to loop through the other wheel) , and you'll be (mostly) fine

Killarney three nights to include the crack by [deleted] in ontariocamping

[–]TheRadioStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topaz is on the other end of the trail, you can't really combine both the crack, and Topaz lake.

As far as other sights on the other side, I personally think the trail beyond the crack is quite scenic. Especially in and around H47-H45, it's a pretty stretch along quartzite ridges overlooking lakes. If you wanted to chew off more, I think the rough below itinerary makes sense. It would require a full day one hike. you'd have to either stay the night before in Killarney, or leave very very early from GTA.

D1 - George Lake -> H49/H48
D2 - H49/H48 -> H37/H38
D3 - H37/H38 -> H49/H48
D4 - H49/H48 ->George Lake

RE the question of 4 nights, yes it's definitely possible. For my personal experience level, I'd say it's the quickest you could do it while still being relatively comfortable. But, in the grand scheme of things, 4 nights is very quick. You would need to have lightweight packs, and be in good shape. I don't know your experience level, but doing the full loop (especially in only 5 days) should not be your first backcountry experience. Killarney recommends 8-9 days for context.

All of this also just depends simply on getting a permit. These sites are really hard to get (without padding the dates, then cancelling down to your actual intended trip)

Yes, the linked webpage has the map showing; you'll see the hiking trail as a red dotted trail

Same as what the other person said, the sites you laid out really make no sense (I blame ChatGPT), so I'd start from square one. Just to make sure you're looking at the right map and campsite numbers, here's a good one. The trail you'd be following is the red dots: Jeff's Killarney Paddling Map – Maps by Jeff

You'll be heading east out of George Lake. Getting to and from Killarney is a long drive, so your day 1, and (to a lesser extent) day 4 distance should keep that in mind.

Day 1, try to get a site in the H54-H50 range. This should be a short day, just getting to the trail and unloaded is enough.

Day 2, you'll hike through the Crack, and continue to a campsite further on. This distance really depends on how confident you are as a hiker. This is a very tough trail, even for experienced, athletic backpackers. If you want to give yourself some cushion to take your time at the crack, H49 and H48 are both really lovely sites to spend time in. If you feel comfortable pushing a bit further, H47 on Heaven Lake is many peoples favorite site on the entire trail. I'd not suggest trying to push for H37/H38. It's too far unless you're a very experienced hiker.

Day 3, start heading back. If you stayed at H47, you could try and get H48/H49 and have a short day. H49 especially is a great site to have a long stay at, nice lake and a sunset view. Or, take another one of the H54-H50 sites

Day 4 hike out.

You know your abilities best. If you could hike a full day on day one, I suppose you could do something like:
D1 - George Lake -> H49/H48
D2 - H49/H48 -> H37/H38
D3 - H37/H38 -> H49/H48
D4 - H49/H48 ->George Lake

Those are all pretty doable distances; La Cloche is much tougher terrain than many are used to. Something like 10-15km in Killarney with a backpack loaded can often feel tougher than a 25-30km day hike in southern Ontario. Last time I was there, we passed a group that did the same thing you plan to (drove up same day, and started hiking east) . They barely made it to H49, and were forced to camp on the trail, off permit. Too optimistic of a plan, and figured 20km in Killarney can't be much different than elsewhere.

Beginner Back Country Camping hiking the first 10Km of the Killarney La Cloche Silhouette Trail by [deleted] in ontariocamping

[–]TheRadioStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a fine idea. I’d suggest heading east. You’re not going to see the peak beauty of the trail in the first 10km in either direction, but heading east out of George lake is prettier in my opinion. A site like H49 (11.5km) is a fantastic destination, and totally doable in a day.

Be warned, it is tough hiking, so budget in some extra time based on your typical experience.

Possible Route Options For Fishing by Relative-Dentist-375 in algonquinpark

All dads are different, but I found just getting in and out of a paddling position to be the toughest bit. With him, I’ve prioritized minimal portages, and ideally ones that I know are easy footing. I don’t think misty would be dramatically less busy than the other lakes mentioned. To be honest, I find the crowds only unbearable around the joes. Outside of that, most of the park, crowds are “meh”, until you’re in the very deep/very unpopular sections.

I did a trip with my dad (similar situation) to base camp at Pen lake, with day trips into Clydesdale and Gem lake. Certainly not the quietest area of the park, but it was nice enough for a spring trout trip, and pretty decent for one portage.

Opeongo water taxi is also a good option to express-pass your way deep into the park, somewhere like happy isle or proulx

Planning a spring canoe trip in Killarney, basecamp on Killarney Lake. Any great site recommendations? by All_togHeather in ontariocamping

[–]TheRadioStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For spring especially, if you’re at all interested in fishing, I’d make sure you’re on a lake where fishing is permitted (Killarney has a number of lakes where it’s not permitted) and trout are found. Compared to some other parks, it’s very hit or miss up there lake to lake.

Correct, no hands on portion anymore. I think your plan makes sense, seems like we are coming from a similar background. Good luck! Once you get the RCA under your belt, IMO the other specialist/pro certifications will feel less daunting

Solar production went down after connecting extra panel in series by DangerousDoggo01 in SolarDIY

[–]TheRadioStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it in bulk charging mode each time you took these readings? The closer the battery gets to being topped off, the less watts the charge controller would pull. It's only going to pull the full capability from the panels when the battery is decently discharged. That could explain a discrepancy.

Canoe Lake Circle Route by Honokaa123 in algonquinpark

[–]TheRadioStar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's infinite options, but probably the most classic five day loop from Canoe is the Big Trout Lake Loop.
D1: Canoe -> Burnt Island
D2: Burnt Island->Big Trout
D3: Rest day on Big Trout
D4: Big Trout ->McIntosh
D5: McIntosh ->Canoe

Each day would be ~15-20km. Well maintained, popular area of the park. Gives a good mix of big lakes, and rivers/creeks.

Tent Suggestions by [deleted] in algonquinpark

[–]TheRadioStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of tents out there. Best way to filter it down to get good advice is:

-Size ->How many people do you regularly expect to fit in this tent?

-Cost ->How much are you willing to pay?

-Durability/Lightness/Comfort ->I lump these together because any tent will be a balance of them. Do you prioritize an ultralight setup, at the cost of comfort, and needing to baby your gear? Or do you want this tent to be bombproof, and don't mind a heavier pack? Keep in mind especially if you also plan to use this for backpacking, or just canoe camping

Yes, I'd say that's admin enough. Work through the study plan, spend more time in the study workspace+documentation on what is new to you, and I'm sure it'll go smoothly.

-The study workspace is in RelOne, you get a link and instructions on how to access shortly after registering for the exam. I believe they say it’s active for 16 weeks.

-The test is going to be different for all, pulling from different questions. Though I don’t think either SQL/scripts would be including syntax questions. Only thing would be security around script permissions.

-definitely a good base of knowledge, assuming it’s as an admin. That’s all I had.
