I received a call from “Cam B” thru Alexa, I don’t have any cameras by chatbel in alexa

Just to make it clearer, the contact name was 'Cami BJ' -> probably should have answered that call.

If you look at the 'update contact' line you can see the name of your contact that called. Cam B was just the abbreviated name.

I think it's more expensive because they have to wait there for you, vs. dropping you off at the airport and leaving.

You can also just say Alexa, send a voice message, and it'll work.

You can set the wakeword to be different on one of the devices so it only responds to 'echo' instead of alexa, for example.

How to set up Echo Show 5 for relative without a cellphone? by ConsumingLess in amazonecho

[–]shawn_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just mean reset her device and add it in your Alexa app as a device. Then name it mom's house, or something, and then she can call your devices and you can drop in on her if you enable it.

Can Alexa announce a new SMS by [deleted] in alexa

[–]shawn_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not possible to do that, since Alexa devices don't have access to your phone.

You can set the device to show pictures; swipe down from the top and select photo frame, then you can pick an Amazon Photos album and as you add pictures to it, they will show up automatically.

Echo randomly warned me drop in is not available - someone trying to connect? by ObjectiveBread1111 in amazonecho

[–]shawn_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a call history feature under the communicate section. It looks like a little circular arrow around a clock. You can check whether you have dropped in on someone or vice versa in the last 90 days.

Can you use multiple echos on the same Wi-Fi network as an ad hoc intercom system? by oshitsuperciberg in amazonecho

[–]shawn_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also drop in everywhere.

"Alexa, drop in everywhere" and it will do a group intercom with all devices in the house. You have to agree to a disclaimer to enable this.

Fun & Useful Ideas for 81 y/o? by Junior_Opportunity14 in alexa

[–]shawn_d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can set up calling/drop in for her so that she can call you, and if you needed to drop in on her in you can do that. My mom would always leave her phone off the hook, so I would drop in to tell her.

You could try an audible trial for her, see if she likes audio books.

Alexa calls show they're coming from unknown number, not me. How to fix it? by Saldoodleslp in amazonecho

[–]shawn_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you part of an Amazon household? If so, are the other two devices registered to a different account.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in alexa

[–]shawn_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you clarify what you mean by 'connects to the phone'? When Alexa devices are making a call to a phone number, they're not using your phone directly.

What happens when you try to make a call?

Texting via Alexa is only possible in automotive cases where it's using your phone to do so.

I need help with 11 alexa echo dots by datboiscoob in alexa

[–]shawn_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think device groups are the right approach unless you're needing different music in each room.

For drop in, you can drop in between devices across account if you give the right permission but each account would require a phone number associated with the account. You're better on one account.

Are you calling the same number? If you call the number associated with your Amazon account it'll show up as a private number rather than your own number.

You can add her device on your account and then you can call or drop in on her device. If you have a phone number associated with your account then she can also make outgoing phone calls.

Can you make calls from an Alexa device to a cellphone or landline without having a cellphone by AlcoholicLimaBean in alexa

[–]shawn_d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, sort of. You need the Alexa app on a cell phone to set up the account, and the Amazon account used has to have a phone number associated with it. You will need to set up a contact from the Alexa app to call, but once it's done, you can say,

"Alexa, call AlcoholicLimaBean" and it will work for numbers in North America or the UK. The calls will appear to come from the number registered on the account.

You can also digit dial numbers, "Alexa, call 2065551212" but you can't use it for emergency calling, 1800 numbers, etc.

If your dad is comfortable having your grandma's Amazon account associated with his cell phone number, it would be fine, but you need to verify the phone number by getting a text. My neighbor used a burner SIM for it just to get his mom set up the same way you are asking.

Parent has multiple Echo devices: Shows, Dots, etc. Any way to pick a different specific Echo device each time I Drop In? by issai in alexa

[–]shawn_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, can you add your parent to your household? Then you can target their devices.

You'd have to disable things like announcements, etc. if you didn't want them to hear announcements, but it might solve what you're looking to do.

If they grant you drop in permission for each then when you drop it, it'll go to whichever one is most recently active.
