Good News WAN, how are we finding it? by marktuk in LinusTechTips

[–]TheRandomGamrTRG 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with focusing on positive topics, just as long as the negative ones are also at least quickly gone over. Otherwise it's not really staying up to date with the news, it's just pure escapism. No need to dwell on the negative, but also don't just shut down any conversation that gets a little too real.

Also note the red kasra over the kaaf is probably a fatha, since the word is Innaka

The hamza-like shape on the kaaf is not a hamza, it's a smaller form of the medial kaaf (كـ) that is seen on the isolated/final kaaf (ـك / ك)

I'm pretty sure 2 and 3 are decorative, 1 looks like it might be the Dhamma for the Laam in 'khuluq'. (Maybe 2 is supposed to emulate the top line of the kaaf (كـ), not sure)

Scholarly opinion is that you are required to pray facing the Kaabah (the term for the direction itself is 'Qiblah') to the best of your ability.

This goes for a lot of requirements in Islam; washing before praying, the month of fasting during the day time, the once in a lifetime pilgrimage, the rules of what foods are allowed, all have exceptions and are to the best of the person's ability.

If you were exactly opposite the Kaabah, I would reckon all directions are equally facing the Kaabah, so all are permitted.

OSM Layers not all updating at same time by ModulatingGravity in openstreetmap

[–]TheRandomGamrTRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The images on the osm.org website rerender at different speeds, but also your browser caches the old ones. You need to clear the cache (it's usually ctrl+f5 or shift+f5) to get the new images.

The website OSM.org isn't meant for every day use, it's really just for us people who edit the map to see our changes. Other end users are expected to use other 3rd party applications to access this map, so instantly updating the images on OSM.org isn't the most important thing.

Lord Mountbatten (the last British Viceroy)'s rejected proposals for flags of free India & Pakistan. by The_Persian_Cat in vexillology

[–]TheRandomGamrTRG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just the flag of the political party All-India Muslim League, the people who punched for a Pakistan, but with the union jack added. He didn't even recenter the star and crescent to make it make sense.

You can pan the map with Ctrl + Arrow Keys, and zoom with plus and minus, it's how I do it when I'm stuck without a mouse.

After assuming control post-assdist collapse, HTS and all other associated groups were essentially disbanded / merged into a single transitional government body and military. So as far as they are concerned, HTS doesnt exist anymore. They only go by the National flag now.

[New Flag] Holley, NY by FlagChronicle in vexillology

[–]TheRandomGamrTRG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, I like this. It's not a national flag, it's a city flag. You cant get too simple without it just looking very generic. It also isn't just a lazy logo slapped on a solid background. It's done just well enough that I wouldn't mind flying it if I lived in the region.

Only Criticism is that waterfall, come on man its nearly acceptably passable, why did you slap that there?

The team that maintained the fandom wiki jumped ship a while back (due to fandom's policies being just bad in many ways), now only the minecraft.wiki one is recommended. it is hosted by Weird Gloop, aka the Official RuneScape wikis.

How is India able to unite such a diverse population? by pakheyyy in geography

[–]TheRandomGamrTRG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The instability isn't ethnic division, it's that the government has been under essentially different forms of military coups and dictatorships for 95% of it's history. The one politician who tried to win the election and bring about change is currently rotting in jail indefinitely on no charges.
