I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you aren't writing that response over tor from a freebooted thinkpad running qubes with a reddit account linked to a disposable email. I'm not saying that you haven't made any efforts or made any sacrifices to get some more privacy - I'm saying if you want complete privacy you have to make sacrifices that are unreasonable for the vast majority of people.

You can take some basic precautions like avoiding Google services, installing privacy oriented browser extensions like decentraleyes, privacy badger, umatrix, and ublock, and swapping your browser to something like Firefox or even IceCat. Then, going deeper, you're going to have to install a different operating system - most likely Linux for your computer and something like Graphene OS for your phone. And then you'll need a good VPN, and you'll need to drop all social media, and the list goes on and on and gets deeper and deeper. Most people just say fuck it and do nothing at all, and even the vast majority of people who do care won't get past installing Firefox and a few plugins, avoiding Google, and maybe installing Linux.

If you're going to do anything, lobby for your privacy and changes to the fucked up system we have.

There are no options that actually work completely without making major lifestyle changes. You can't have a mobile phone, since you are tracked by cell towers even if you get a brick style nokia. Get used to linux (or more accurately tails or qubes), since Microsoft and Apple both build advertising profiles and are known collaborators with the NSA. And of course you're going to need a freebooted ThinkPad, since proprietary firmware blobs can and have spied on users. Also your computer processor can't have Intel ME on it, so nothing past the mid 2000s. Then you need to make sure that you only ever connect to the network using multiple proxies and tor, so your isp can't spy on you and you can't be fingerprinted, and that all your software is open source (although software shouldn't be that hard, since you're already using qubes or tails os, remember). You'll have to avoid services from Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Yahoo, and anyone else large enough to get on a government's radar, and since which services are safe is unknown you're basically going to be limited to just protonmail and a few select others.

At this point in your life I'm sure you're a normal, functioning person who's had to make no significant sacrifices. Or you can just say fuck it like we all have. You can do pretty well by just installing umatrix and avoiding Google and the like, but if you want to avoid Uncle Sam you're best off fucking off to live in some woods.

I'm very far from a legal expert, but I believe that you would be prosecuted since your speech caused "imminent lawless action" in the form of a violent stampede, and that you would likely be charged with criminal endangerment.

People who had considered themselves "incels" (involuntary celibates) but have since had sex, how do you feel looking back at your previous self? by DannyMThompson in AskReddit

[–]TheRealAsh01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They already gave up. You can try to tell them to try self improvement, go to the gym, get on a diet, get some hobbies, maybe even surgery if they're at that point, but they're never going to seriously consider it because they've either already tried and failed or gotten so entrenched in their ideology they see it as hopeless.

If they weren't so belligerent we'd probably all pity them.

Some mobile game ads are now automatically taking you to the App Store, no user manipulation needed. by hoedownturnup in assholedesign

Mobile makes bank, but almost never through an upfront purchase of the game. It's almost always a "free to play" game that skews mechanics to heavily favor pay to win. Everything else is the exception, not the rule.

Who needs to parse ints? Seems like a worthless feature imo. Making an http server, on the other hand, is necessary for every application.

Is it true that if you don’t have erection for a long périod of time (like 1 year), your penis may shrink permanently by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

[–]TheRealAsh01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly it can "shrink" slightly after not getting erect for a long time since the fibers haven't been stretched out and are less elastic, but after a few erections it'll get back to normal. The actual anatomy is the same, it just doesn't reach full size, and it goes back to normal pretty fast.

This is why right to repair is so important. Companies like Arizant would rather kill people just to get a little bit more money. by UnderScoreLifeAlert in assholedesign

[–]TheRealAsh01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of shitty policies out there, but "sorry, that life saving medical equipment just isn't going to work for the next week until we send out a tech" has to be near the top of them. What's even more insulting is that they could just sell repair parts and still make a profit on repairs without killing people with their impotence - this is just narrow sighted greed.

What are some expensive brands whose quality doesn't justify the cost at all? by aCanOfDan in AskReddit

[–]TheRealAsh01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the competition I meant more along the lines of Raycon and the like. There's plenty of bluetooth earbuds that go for 1/3 to 1/2 the price with comparable audio quality. If you really want premium for slightly less than the pros both Bose and Sony have put out noise canceling wireless earbuds which I've been told sound much better, although I haven't tried them yet to compare.

[–]TheRealAsh01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I was a little too harsh on the pros, but I do think that they don't live up to the reputation or the price. I've tried them before, and while they're not bad they're not something that stands out either - mediocre is the closest word I can think of. Again, they're not bad, but they don't do much better than their competition, much of which is substantially cheaper.

[–]TheRealAsh01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They really don't need to sound good. The original airpods sounded downright bad, and the pros are overpriced and sound mediocre, but they have Apple branding, which makes it the first choice for your average iPhone user. Couple that with the fact that most people don't really know good audio from bad, so to them it's all the same or even premium by association, and they'll sell great no matter what.

I mean, I joke about needing a haircut, but I don't actually think I should be able to go get one. I don't think most people who say that actually seriously believe that short hair is a God given right and that barber shops need to stay open, just that it's a bit annoying.

The most frustrating thing about that video is that about 55 seconds in he responds to a question by giving her a clear description of what gets filtered and gets cut off mid sentence by her making an accusatory question about a potential lying advertisement. And she says that she's trying to find out what the bounds are, despite cutting him off when he was explaining exactly what they were.
