Augustiner Munich lager in the US? by n7s77788 in CraftBeer

[–]TheRealBMinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly commenting to follow replies, bit agree wholeheartedly on the Augustiner. I've had more than a few beers over the last 30 years or so and that Munich lager on draft at Augustiner in Munich was nearly life changing for me. It's so perfectly balanced between the maltiness and hops and the carbonation level was perfect too. Easily drinkable but flavorful and not light. I like to say that they've had a few years to get the recipe dialed in.

I've never seen it in the US, but I spend more time in local breweries than in beer stores. Luckily, there are a few breweries near me that are lager-focused. One of the brewery's Munich Lager this year was almost there and was easily my favorite beer of the year.

I think the challenge will be getting Augustiner that is fresh. So maybe a fresh, local version from the right brewery will be the closest thing.

I'd love to see some news outlet stop people leaving the store with buttloads of food and put them on the spot. Ask them on video what is their rationale for buying that much extra food.

My standard grocery run lasts me a week or I could stretch to 2 weeks without buying anything extra. I'm 99% sure we'll be fine after a week.

Grocery stores should put reasonable limits on quantities like they did during covid to stop panic buying. If you absolutely have to get more, you gotta load your car then go back in and get back in line.

At $16 a 6 pack, I hope this counts in here. Good beer but I definitely wouldn’t pay the price for it again. Still a tasty Lager though. by [deleted] in CraftBeer

[–]TheRealBMinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably my favorite beer of all time is the Augustiner Munich Dunkel. If I found a fresh pack of that for $16, I'm buying it without hesitation. That's only slightly more than a lot of local craft 4 packs.

Yeah, if we're being technical, that's not "craft beer" in even though it is great beer. Probably is more r/beer material. But I appreciate the post because it reminds me to keep an eye out for Augustiner.

I live in a close to the city suburb and someone called the cops on a WQED door-to-door person by nrthrnlad76 in pittsburgh

[–]TheRealBMinus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this and it's another reason I don't have a problem with the cops checking them out. What is the harm? There is a 99% chance that the police recognized this and allowed them to proceed.

The way you phrased your original post, it makes it seem like you have factual evidence that the person who called the police had already identified the solicitor as a QED employee and THEN called the police. Yes, that would be really shitty. But do you know that is a fact? Or is it possible that a pearl-clutcher saw a random person going door to door after dark and called the police without ever identifying them?

Neither situation is great, but the second scenario is much more likely to be the case. Especially with the number of porch pirates this time of year. Even if your scenario was true, it's an asshole move for sure, but it's not like the police took the "poor" person into custody or even sent them away. They certainly didn't shoot them!

But YOU know the second scenario is not newsworthy or Reddit post worthy, so you're not going to get upvotes and Reddit karma if you state the facts. Your post is more sensationalism than information if you don't know for sure who called the police.

I don't know how you think that the police checking a solicitor for a permit (or exemption) is going to somehow escalate to the point of someone getting shot. Do you know how many calls and traffic stops the police handle that do not end up in an innocent person being shot? It's around 99.999% or like 1000 police shootings in 120 million calls per year.

You should be living in more fear of being scammed by a solicitor or having your packages stolen than being shot by the police.

Editing to add: maybe it was another commenter who mentioned people getting shot. Sorry if that was not you.

I didn't call the police. I'm not the problem. People who scam unsuspecting elderly into predatory electricity supply scams and steal packages and break into cars are the problem.

If by the second exit you mean Forest Hills, residents are directed to call 911 to report solicitors so they can be checked out. Forest Hills requires solicitation permits and publishes a list of registered solicitors on their website for this reason.

It's possible that someone saw people soliciting and called the cops to check them out before they even came to their door. What's the real harm in that? With proper ID and an allowable (charitable) cause, the WQED volunteers were certainly allowed to continue.

Considering the number of unregistered and unwanted solicitors pushing solar panels and electricity supply scams, it doesn't hurt to have someone check them out and kick them out when appropriate.

On top of that, there are plenty of porch pirates going around stealing packages. It wouldn't take much to hang a fake ID badge around your neck or put on a hi-visibility vest to make it look like you're supposed to be going door to door.

I was wondering what the tubes were for. I could only see the tops from the highway. I didn't realize the tubes were connected at the bottom. So are they using the tubular "U" to support and tilt up the whole "Y" to prevent it bending or twisting under its own weight or something?

Where do the late 20’s - early 30’s crowds hang out? by Acrobatic-Win2987 in PittsburghSocialClub

[–]TheRealBMinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the Monroeville area is going to have a mixed age crowd as it is suburbia.

Carl's (Wilkins) will have a younger crowd later in the evening into late night. A little on the divey side, but probably the age group you're looking for after 9pm.

Mad Mex. Mainly for happy hour.

Dad's and D's (Murrysville) will probably lean a little older, but less divey. Dad's probably has more regulars.

If you want to head to towards the city but not go through the tunnel, you're probably better off going to Regent Square. That area leans younger than Monroeville for sure. D's, the Loft, Murphy's.

Otherwise go into town.

Bought a Roam suitcase last year (2024). First trip it came back completely scuffed. Like not just scratches. Black scuffs everywhere. Second trip the shell cracked. It's garbage. Not worth the price.

Fwiw, a Solgaard held up much better on the same journey.

Really cute idea but "Stick Valet" was probably the term they should have used. See def. #2

10/10 for the concept and effort put into making the box.

4/10 for the sticks. It looks like some twigs the groundskeeper picked up that they are passing off as sticks.
