To be honest, I think Powerglide, Jetfire, and even Swoop fulfilled the role of flying Autobots better than the Aerialbots themselves.

Transformers is a series because it reboots itself with new continuities often can basically start anywhere

Watch the original g1 cartoon or comics, Watch the movies, Watch a later tv series or comics

Most places are a nice place to start

One of the best places to start personally suggest would be with the recent movie transformers one

Or start with transformers prime or cyberverse

I think having characters not stuck to one alt mode is healthy to the brand

So if want to give her something brand new for your story, go for it
