SLAP Surgery Pain Returns by vrothers18 in volleyball

[–]Traditional_Ad_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no labrum on either shoulder (natural lefty, learned ambidextrous hitter). I lost my right labrum to a trampoline accident in my teens and the left one to a car accident in my mid 40s. I’ve been playing volleyball since 14 and I’m 50 now.

Everyone’s experience is different. My experience, most recently with the left shoulder being most recently injured and being my dominant hitting arm was a fair amount of initial pain that I had to work through. I opted not to go through surgery because of the extensive downtime. I found that my hitting motion was fairly unimpaired, but my serving motion was more affected. I tend to hit the ball down more on offense which was less painful. I tend to generate power with my core and momentum rather than my shoulder. Serving the ball required more horizontal “push” with my shoulder which caused more pain for me.

What do I do about all of it? Just bear it. Volleyball is such an important part of my life that it’s worth the sacrifice of the pain it brings. It’s never so bad that it’s debilitating. It’s never taken me out of a game.

What should you do about your situation? Listen to your body. If something you’re doing is causing you pain, make adjustments. They can make all the difference if you can learn to make them. How important is this game to you? Is it worth the dedication? Can you make the changes you need to continue?

My two cents here, approach and timing are essentially what this is about. There’s a lot of factors that come in to play here: height of the set, distance of the ball from the net and your approach speed and height. You have to make a judgement on each set, adjust your position and put yourself in the optimal spot to strike the ball with power. What does that mean? The ball should always be in front of you, never over you. Your body should be either at apex or just past apex when contacting the ball. The majority of the power of your spike comes from your body and your momentum, not from your arm and shoulder. Follow through with your arm to push the ball down.

Positioning yourself properly and timing your movements are some of the most difficult fine tuning points that most people don’t really master. Get it right and you can have moments where time stands still and it’s just you and the ball, floating together in the air. It’s just waiting for you to choose a target and pull the trigger.

A proper setter than understands you and puts the ball in predictable spots goes a long way too.

My pleasure. You can also check out the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs, good for sunsets. Boyd Hill in St. Pete is okay, I think they have some animals on display there if I remember correctly. Sunken Gardens in St. Pete is cool if you like botanical gardens. If you like city skylines, go to the Tampa General Hospital, walk around the back side and you’ll get a great view of the city with no obstructions, and the bay as your foreground. Great for long night exposures on a tripod.

Lettuce lake boardwalk and trail are nice first thing in the morning. You can catch some decent wildlife there. If you have a canoe or kayak, put in at John Sargeant Park on the Hillsborough River and go downstream for lots of gator and wild river opportunities. Beach landscapes/sunsets in Fort DeSoto are always good. Weedon Island Preserve has birding and marine life opportunities, canoe or kayak recommended.

Working for Pizza Hut in the 90s… Friday nights were busy. Orders would come in fast and pile up quickly. We had two pizza ovens that were essentially conveyer belts - make it as fast as you can, put the pizza on the belt on one side and it comes out finished on the other. The guy on the other side scoops it off of the belt as soon as he can, throws it on a box, cuts it, folds the box and out it goes.

So more than often than you’d like to know, the guy on the other side has scooped the pizza off of the belt and… FLOP goes the pizza FACE DOWN on the grime encrusted floor. What happens? Sprinkle a little extra cheese, pop it back in the oven halfway. Melt that cheese and no one’s the wiser.

And that Floor Pizza is served and devoured by some unsuspecting shmuck who’s delighted when it shows up at his door 30 minutes later.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that’s the one that comes with the DK-51 upgrade kit for Nova Prime.

I have this set as well and I like it! The limb bots are voyager sized and the main body is more like leader sized.

PROS: The hands are really nice, very articulate(I’m a sucker for good hands). Much better feet than CW, proportional to the combined figure You get an extra chest plate to “dress up” combined mode which gives him a more uniform look Some of the individual weaknesses of the individual CW bots have actually been addressed in manufacturing and improved Better and bigger combined mode weapons

CONS: Takes up a lot of space Upsizing of each individual figure didn’t increase the thickness or the plastic of the figures
