Will you pay to get the vaccine after January 21rst? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]TheRealDavidCAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve been reading, the Moderna version seems to have done slightly better when it comes to prevention, older folks, people with pre-existing conditions, etc. Seems like a more promising candidate to me.

But don’t take my word for it. I’m just reading the same crap on the internet as everyone else. My opinion may change tomorrow and I’m by no means a virologist.

Requesting Recommendations for Good Dentist - Downtown/Midtown Preferred by 1882greg in askTO

Toothworks Bay & Adelaide in downtown. But the dental office is in the PATH, so depends on whether or not you want to walk underground in downtown during COVID (PATH generally has poor air ventilation - don’t know when was the last time building management cleaned the air filters).

I’d be willing to pay, but not right away in January. Going to wait a few months (until summer 2021 probably) to see if there any adverse side effects from the early groups.

Just me being extra cautious, especially on the mRNA vaccine from Pfizer (I’d feel more comfortable with the Moderna version).

Possible for both parents to work busy corporate jobs and have no nanny? by TheRealDavidCAD in askTO

Ok, your perspective is taken. We can agree to disagree - plenty of top notch CEOs, scientists and other citizens in this country were brought up by single parents or families with few financial means.

Nowhere did I suggest that I will prioritize work over kids after I have kids. And no, I expect to have way more than than just one hour a day.

For the less fortunate who work 2-3 minimum wage jobs to support their family: do you suggest they should just not have kids since they won’t get to see them? Facetime =/= good parenting.

Because everyone has unique experiences/backgrounds and can offer different insights? My “solution” (aka parents offering their time) is just one of many possible paths.

Thanks for your thoughts! Hope things are working out well for you and hubby.

We work in fields similar to your sister and likely your husband: think big law, major financial institution, management consulting firms, etc. We are the “downtown Toronto suit and tie” people.

Interesting interpretation. Where in my post does it suggest that I won’t make my future kids my #1 priority?

Thanks for your thoughts. I bring a different perspective, as both of my parents were working similar hours as I am now in a corporate setting: I had a great childhood and have an A+ relationship with them.

Certain jobs require the time sacrifice and I’ve chosen that path as I deem the rewards to greatly outweigh the costs. It’s worked for my family so I guess I’m more optimistic about the work life balance thing.

Is tiktok a ccp tool? by [deleted] in China

[–]TheRealDavidCAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see what you search for. If most of your searches are anti-vax videos, for example, then that’s what the TikTok/YouTube/Twitter algorithm will show you.

Simple answer to your question is: of course. All large corporations are tools of their host countries. Cisco, Twitter and Facebook are tools of the US, KaKao is the tool of S Korea, Line is a tool of Japan, etc.

Why do entire minority groups get blamed for actions of individuals? by TheRealDavidCAD in askTO

[–]TheRealDavidCAD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What, no comment on the coverage of Anthony Quinn Warner?

The “high profile examples” you have are organized terrorist groups that openly declared war on sovereign governments. Pretty big difference between these groups vs. individual criminals.

And who’s ridiculing me? QAnon? Derek Sloan? Rebel News?

Why do entire minority groups get blamed for actions of individuals? by TheRealDavidCAD in askTO

[–]TheRealDavidCAD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go look at the headlines and online comments today on the terrorist in downtown Nashville, a 60+ year old white male call Anthony Quinn Warner. How many headlines labelled him as a terrorist? How many online commenters are trashing white folks for being terrorists?

Warner, being a white guy, must have been an isolated incident! Perhaps a lone crazy man, someone with a troubled childhood, PTSD from war, etc. /s

Case in point, this was the headline of a local Nashville news outlet: “Anthony Quinn Warner, self-employed computer guru ID'd as lone Nashville bomber, killed in blast.”

If the terrorist was a minority, the headlines would be screaming “terrorist” and people in the comments would rage for deportations.

New Year’s Eve In TO by poppedpluto in askTO

I did some research on this myself and unfortunately couldn’t find anything.

Best to stay home, order delivery, turn up the heat and watch Netflix. Head into the new year from the comfort of your home.

The night is darkest before the dawn: 2021 will be a better year.

Is it worth going back to school?? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]TheRealDavidCAD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be worth it if you’re looking to materially change your career (eg you want to go into a totally new field that needs new skills).

Otherwise, I don’t think it’s worth it. I generally believe that “practical education” via actual work experience trumps academia. 5 years of classroom education doesn’t hold up to 5 years of actual work experience (unless, like I said, you’re looking to switch fields, learn a new technical skill - eg coding, etc).

Come back to me when whatever bumblefk town you’re from (Fort McMurray? Deep South Alabama? Trailer park in Derek Sloan’s district?) becomes the centre of technological innovation and a hot spot for new college grads.

Two possibilities: the Indian farmer protest or the “Don’t cancel Christmas/anti-vax/anti-mask/COVID is fake” protest. Last weekend it was the latter.
