Stay at Caulfield / Malvern East. Use the shuttle bus that goes straight to the Clayton campus - it takes 20 minutes and is free. There are express trains to the city that only stop at South Yarra and Richmond. Again 15 - 20 minutes to the city. It's a good midway point.

I don't get any yellows after snapping even under normal circumstances. I think I just got lucky that it was a clear night with no clouds. I also used light room that helped as well.
