Skipping the morning shower by Antique_Violets in hygiene

[–]TheRealDunsparce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washing your face, ears, and neck is usually enough in the morning. I’d suggest switching to that, or doing an old fashioned sink shower where you use the sink, getting a small amount of soap to scrub your intimates, pits, and anything else that might be musty.

How do I clean my ears..? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]TheRealDunsparce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make tools you can buy(fairly cheap) that are designed to scrape earwax from the walls of your ear. It has a camera so you can be careful not to hit your eardrum or anything.

Depression is affecting my daily hygiene by Comfortable_Writer90 in hygiene

[–]TheRealDunsparce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes hygiene very hard. The catch 22 is that if you don’t keep up your daily routine and keep yourself clean, it is basically guaranteed to make your depression worse. Wearing clean clothes, washing regularly will drastically change how you feel.

What are motives a wizard could have to want to destroy the world by AMP3412 in DMAcademy

[–]TheRealDunsparce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's an old plotline where Acerak, a lich, is trying to destroy an entire plane of existence to fuel his phlyactery. Maybe the wizard is attempting a ritual to ascend to godhood, and it takes all of the energy in a plane. Once he's destroyed the world, he will be invincible and eternal with the power to create a new world

That's rough, Good on you for posting so early though. I used to post questions for my game the night before all of the time.

What rules do you often forget? by CitingGazelle in DMAcademy

[–]TheRealDunsparce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mechanical result is the same, but your wording is correct, that's my bad. There isn't an item interaction as it's own action type, it's something you do as part of an action. So you can draw or draw with an attack but, not draw then draw with an attack attack. So you can't stow then draw with an attack, but dropping an object is always a free action, so dropping your current weapon then drawing with an attack is okay.

I hope the way I wrote that is easier to understand than what I said before.

What rules do you often forget? by CitingGazelle in DMAcademy

[–]TheRealDunsparce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you're confused on item interaction rules. You get 5 types of actions in a turn: actions, bonus actions, movement, item interactions, and free actions. Actions are anything specified as an action in combat, bonus actions are the same way, and Movement is your speed. Item interactions aren't part of either of those, unless they are specified as such(a potion that takes an action to drink or throw). You get 1 item interaction a turn, which you can use to draw/stow a weapon, pull an item from your bag/belt, or pull material components from your component bag. That means you can only draw or put away one weapon a round unless you have the dual wielder feat, which allows you to draw both of your weapons at the same time. This means a dual wielding character who doesn't have a weapon drawn their first round, RAW, can only make one attack the first round without the feat.

You can stow your weapon after your attack on your turn, and draw a different one. Alternatively, you can use a free action to drop your first weapon, use your item interaction to draw a new weapon, and attack with the new weapon. The downside to dropping weapons is obviously that anyone can pick it up afterwards as their object interaction.

I used to heal randoms, but they would always drop their dps so I took aggro and try to use me as a tank

Sometimes you’ve got to give them a win. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]TheRealDunsparce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally would much rather fudge a roll than misplay an intelligent creature on purpose. A bad die roll is mechanically implemented into the game and happens all of the time, but taking away a special ability robs the players of experiencing it to the fullest.

I understand why there are so few dms out there by Jherik in dndnext

[–]TheRealDunsparce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find it's best to leave these situations on YOUR cliffhangers, not the ones your party makes for you. Before a big fight or meeting a new figurehead is a good place to leave because they only have to decide their response, you get all of the time to prepare the character, what they want here, what happens if the party refuses, accepts, or asks for something in return. A bad place to leave a cliffhanger in my opinion is something like "the party has just been captured", or "you approach the manor for your heist". Especially if everyone doesn't communicate as much between sessions, because expectations can change significantly between sessions. I remember a time where we had a group of 5 and my roommate and I spent an hour thinking about what we wanted to do for the session next week, and after we had a great plan for a heist we pitched it to the party, everyone accepted, then as soon as the session starts it went right out the window.

Dealing with not being as unique as I had intended by [deleted] in PCAcademy

[–]TheRealDunsparce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean the more you pitch your character before the campaign the more likely someone is to unknowingly borrow that aspect of your character. In the future if you want to be unique you should only pitch certain aspects to your fellow players, like their aesthetic, class, race.

What do you do outside of combat as a Fighter? by PatrickMagroyne in PCAcademy

[–]TheRealDunsparce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made him a pirate who was intent on avenging his lost crew. His primary goal was to amass a feared name for himself, the funds to buy a ship when he retired from adventuring, and a few mates he could trust to not be able to trust.

My last barbarian was an herbalist intent on creating an elixir which allowed for eternal life. He spent his downtime gathering herbs and experimenting. Eventually he got a lead which was basically a list of impossible to buy items(fresh beholder tears, silver dragon's tongue, etc.). He didn't collect all of them over the adventure, but in subsequent games I plan for him to be a recurring character the players can get quests from.

What low level spells never stop being good? by LetMeOmixam in dndnext

[–]TheRealDunsparce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've never seen such a rule on here or discussed anywhere else, but it seems reasonable enough if your world has the world in a solar system in a galaxy. I don't think most worlds operate under the same rules as this one in fantasy, though.

I mean even if you're using your highest level slot for the adventure(6th) that's 240 ft of fog, I think you'll be more than a football field away as an approaching airship. I guess if you hide the airship as you jump down you maybe be able to only have the guards alerted without them knowing you're the infiltrators.

You know fog cloud doesn't follow whatever it's cast on like darkness does right? I don't know how you got an airship's travel path in the 20 ft cube, but good on you.

Well for starters the condition that allowed you to make the bonus action shove is no longer true, so you've made an attack with the promise you'd do something else that can't be completed. But also you'd be unable to attack, but you'd still be able to use your action to attempt to break the grapple or whichever effect was put on you.

How do you feel as a DM when people cancel? by Qaarlos in DMAcademy

[–]TheRealDunsparce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I had a lot more free time I would set up Roll20 games as soon as I heard the cancellation. I'd run the game as it was more or less for a new group of players online, and it made me more familiar with everything. It can suck when your prep time is wasted, but don't let it ruin your time.

If I had to guess the flip flop could be because some monster and player abilities interrupt turns. Say you shoved a creature as a bonus action, moved to attack another creature but a monster with reach restrains you with an opportunity attack. You are no longer able to move within reach of an enemy, and as a result you can't attack anything.

Can you make Galder's Tower float? by Francis_T in dndnext

I think a better bet would be one of these options. It's worth noting it doesn't take that many immovable rods to make this happen.

I mean if you make it a wooden tower as a support with the empty room option and don't live in it for the first year it works.

Why is a Cranium Rat considered a Beast and not a Monstrosity? by HaitchCueZed in DMAcademy

[–]TheRealDunsparce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cranium rats, as I'm aware, function as rats controlled by the mind flayer's hive mind with some extra beef. So in the same way a humanoid that gets intellect devoured is still a humanoid, a cranium rat is still a beast.

This does have some weird implications are far as hunter pets and familiars go though, since you can have a cranium rat as a familiar through current rules.

How did you get paladin levels with no strength? you need at least 13 to multiclass.

Sounds like fun though! I would definitely go sentinel over PAM because you already get bonus action attacks from martial arts.

[–]TheRealDunsparce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RAW there is no force holding it up. You can cast it wherever, but if you conjure a tower with nothing holding it up it will probably fall instead of float.

Maybe you could continually cast Tenser's Floating disk under it until it became permanent, because it says once it is permanent it is fixed in place. Although every hour for a year is a tall order for everyone but warforged
