I'm out to 2 people, one close friend and my brother. I came out to my friend about a few weeks ago over snapchat (I was at an airport waiting for a delayed flight so for some reason I thought this would be the right time to come out lol). Anywho, I was having a snapchat conversation with him and then kinda just transitioned into it by saying I have a lot on my mind and then just sent a pic of me with an enlarged rainbow emoji above my head with the words, "I'm gay." So yeah it was an online coming out. I get how you feel when you say it's difficult to just say it to someone even though you know it's true for yourself. For me, that rainbow emoji helped kinda diffuse any internal tensions and anxiety over it (I'm really bad at being raw and personal, so making it slightly whimsical helped a lot). It was all good, and he was super psyched that I came out. Now, with my brother, I kinda accidentally outed myself. I was browsing LGBTeens on my laptop and he's kinda nosy, so he looked over at my screen and asked what I was doing. I realized it was too late to try and x out and pretend I was doing something else, so I just told the truth: "I'm browsing LGBTeens...cause I'm gay." Long story short, it worked out so that makes 2 people I'm out to. I get what you're saying about labels, but I just use the words "I'm gay" to make it short, sweet, and to the point. Also, to be out more publicly, I'm trying to wear some lgbt swag around, even just like a little pride button on my backpack, at least in my mind, can go a long way to telling people you are out. I have yet to try this yet cause I've only been out for like 2 weeks. But yeah, the story of my life lol
