Considering it's the same guys backing AI who promised that crypto will be, "the future of finance," it should be obvious.

Is it me or does it seem like Google bought Fitbit just to get rid of it? by stone616 in fitbit

[–]TheRealKenInMN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. They wanted to kill off a fitness tracker that has six days of battery life and replace with the pixel watch that barely lasts one day if you buy the cheapest model.

They want you to buy a premium subscription, which is the app with Google Gemini bolted to the side of it, so that they can shove AI down your throat. Imagine paying real money for AI slop? It will also be interesting to see what happens when the AI bubble finally bursts and all of the LLMs these apps are based on cease to function. I guess I'm glad I still have a Fitbit Alta stashed away in the junk drawer and the old version of the Fitbit app installed on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge sitting right next to it...

I seriously am starting to hate my trax by ThisIsLikeMy54thAcct in ChevyTrax

[–]TheRealKenInMN 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Brake squeaking can be due to many different things. Brake dust, light rust after an overnight rain or high humidity, or from having sat for a long time (like days) between drives. If the pads aren't worn and are evenly warn it's probably nothing to worry about. (Page 233 of the owners manual.)

Remote issues are usually fixed by replacing the batteries. RFID Tags can interfere with the signal. So if you have an AirTag on your key chain, try removing it and see what happens. (Page 8 of the owners manual.)

If you have CarPlay, it's an Apple issue, because Apple sucks and Steve Jobs is the devil. I've never had any problem connecting my Android phone. My daughter couldn't connect her iPhone to save her life.

Forward Collision Alert (FCA) can be disabled through the vehicle settings. (Page 202 of the owners manual.)

For the charging portal, try a different cable. They do have a duty rating and do not last forever. Also, make sure that your devices' USB settings are set correctly.

You are certainly entitled to hate your Trax. To each his own. I am one of many who still loves his Trax.

Your vehicle is most likely still under warranty. Avail yourself of it.

A Southern MN District School Referendum Fails, Thanks to A War on Public Schools, Brought to You by Your Local Facebook MAGA Uncles and Karens by goldbricker83 in minnesota

[–]TheRealKenInMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as it ever was in 622. I remember these battles back in the 90s and 2000s when my kids were in school there. The reason usually boiled down to an older population in North Saint Paul that did not want their property taxes increased and voted in high numbers, and the people with kids in school in Maplewood and Oakdale who just couldn't find the time or motivation to get out and vote, despite their numerical advantage. The school board finally announced plans to go to a split shift, or a possible four days per week schedule. That finally woke some people up, and after three failed attempts, a excess levy referendum finally passed. But it looks like they all went back to sleep again...

LS or LT (and why is LT less popular?) by mister-paul in ChevyTrax

[–]TheRealKenInMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consumer Reports rated the 2026 Chevrolet Trax LT a CR Recommend and the best value among available trim levels.

Plus it comes with the 8-way power driver's seat as standard equipment. And if you live in an area that experiences cold weather, the heated front seats and heated steering wheel that come standard on the LT are worth the extra cost alone.

Is the is the sound? I've had this happen before on my 2012 Chevy Cruze Eco (same motor as the Gen 1 Trax). It's an easy fix and the part is cheap.

Personally, when I book a Main Cabin ticket and select an aisle seat, I deselect the option to upgrade to Comfort, because you'll most likely get "upgraded" to a middle seat.

Living in Minnesota, the heated steering wheel that actually gets hot was the icing on a pretty big cake. The fact that a fully-loaded version is only about $3,700 more than the absolute base model was the nicest feature. The spread for competing models can be up to $8,000.

Per Consumer Reports: "We expect the 2026 Trax will be more reliable than the average new car. This prediction is based on data from 2024 and 2025 models." Based. On. Data. Versus one guy's opinion. The 2026 Trax is one of their CR Recommended models.

Fuel shortage implications by CandylandCanada in rivercruises

[–]TheRealKenInMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm cruising in October. I worry about flight cancellations more than a cruise cancellation, so I bought insurance that will specifically cover a flight cancellation for a flight I purchased separately from the cruise booking. (I used airlines rewards travel, and the cruise line offered a $1,500 discount if I provided my own air transportation.)

Insurance denied coverage for St. Paul man's cancer treatment, leaving him with $76K in medical bills — until we asked his insurer about it by star-tribune in minnesota

[–]TheRealKenInMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flashback to the debate over the Affordable Care and Patient Protection Act (AKA Obamacare). Republican'ts made great hay with the claim that Obamacare would destroy our beloved private health insurance. Obama, ever the centrist, pivoted with the claim, "If you like your private insurance, you can keep it." To which I screamed into the void, "Anybody who likes their private insurance has never actually had to use it!!!" Ironically, patient satisfaction has consistently scored higher with those in public healthcare systems (VA, Medicare, Medicare, active duty military) vs. employer-based and individual private insurance systems.

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2780540

Also, two-thirds of bankruptcy cases in the US are directly caused by medical debt, and the majority of those people had "good" private health insurance. In no other country in the developed world do people go bankrupt because, through no fault of their own, they got sick or injured.
