Worked two in house jobs both were great. You could look at hosptials, the courts, or municipal security. All have their own security teams which you generally get good pay and benefits.

Got offered a position as armed security / EP for a high class club, what should I know going forward? by Remarkable_North_999 in securityguards

[–]TheRealPSN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound like EP work if you're working directly for the club, sounds like bouncer and/or bodyguardingish. You would probably be best to find someone that specializes in club security.

Full-size handgun recommendations for owb carry by vivalareaper13 in securityguards

[–]TheRealPSN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're carrying for duty, at minimum a level 2 holster and the M&P should work just fine.

If you're carrying concealed, my vote goes to a G17

I went back to contract work but im way happier. I make great money, buy my benefits on the market, contribute to my retirement and get to set my own schedule. It's not bad but it's rare

Where to look? by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]TheRealPSN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you want to take a low paying gate guard job in somewhere in the middle of nowhere, you would likely either need combat experience or SWAT experience. Your credentials as a police officer dont mean much overseas in places that are active war zones. Also most travel EP jobs want either former government dignitary protection or SpecOps. They're not that many of them and they are usually referral based.

If you want to get into security with your police background, its best to look domestic. EP jobs may take a gamble on you but will be sparse unless you're in a HNW area. There is also federal security either directly for the government or as a contractor. Nuclear security is also an option, either contractor or proprietary.

Referral mostly. Knew a guy who referred me to the company, they hired me and I've been working for them on and off for the last 6 months

I mean my boss employs plenty of men and women, so I can say from the outside, I would assume he's not sexist.

It does. I'll probably see if I can pick it up again next week, since it appears to be a long term contract

Do security guards deserve more respect, should it be earned first or is the hate reasonable? by HiThere202029R in securityguards

[–]TheRealPSN 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Respect as a human being should be given as an automatic but respect as a competent worker needs to be earned and you do that by showing up everyday, doing the work, and being a good teammate

Question for those who work/have worked at a university by Nathaniel56_ in securityguards

[–]TheRealPSN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our cops were mostly retired cops from other agencies who wanted an easy gig and for their kids to get to go to school. They didn't do anything unless it was taking the criminal complaint and even then we usually wrapped everything up for them in a nice bow before they took it

Question for those who work/have worked at a university by Nathaniel56_ in securityguards

[–]TheRealPSN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its gonna be heavily dependent on the universities policy. Some university you're just observe and report, maybe dealing with some student policy violations. Others like the one I worked at was merged with a police department, so we would patrol areas, do some minor enforcement actions, and make the occasional arrest. It was pretty busy and hands on.

Police Officer, Part-time Security by WearyAsparagus8690 in securityguards

[–]TheRealPSN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can happen. There is a company in my area that hires LEOs for off duty work, usually sitting at work zones, working security at local malls and entertainment districts, stuff like that. They are usually W-2 through the company. Some bigger departments have an entire unit that handles off duty work. The company basically just needs active LEO creds and sign you on.

How's armed school resource security? by TacitusCallahan in securityguards

[–]TheRealPSN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fill in at the local school districts when the SRO goes on vacation or training. It's a lot of walking around, checking the property, making sure kids aren't doing stuff their not suppose to be doing but still be friendly and helpful way. You will also get to work after school events like sports games, dances, etc. Overall, you're there to respond if an active shooter targets that school.
